I think that DC, not Cockrum, nixed the idea of Nightcrawler in the Legion. They felt that he was "too demonic" or some such garbage. Funny for a book that is supposed to be made up of characters from around the galaxy.

The sad thing is, as bad as Secret Invasion was, it still got excellent sales numbers. Meaning, Marvel and Bendis will continue to churn out more of the same cr@p in the future. I didn't realize "Marvel Zombies" referred to the readers.

Honorable mentions to Hank McCoy, Bruce Banner, and Peter Parker. Maybe even Egghead?

I loved this comic, though, yeah, the last few pages with Ms Marvel really fell flat. Still, the fight scenes were great. Claremont really knows how to write a good fight scene, with the characters using their powers in logical ways, using actual strategy and teamwork. The beginning with Spider-Woman rescuing "Jane Doe" was also good, setting up an element of mystery to the story. Finally, I thought the art was excellent.

I've pretty much stopped buying new comics due to money reasons, I'll pick up TPB's of newer stuff when they look interesting, but at the time I stopped, I have to say that Guardians of the Galaxy was definitely one of my favorite titles. Just a lot of fun. I put it right up there with the now defunct X-Men:First Class for pure fun among newer titles.

Yeah, the behind the scenes stuff in the comics industry is like a soap opera. Wasn't there a big p*ssing match between Byrne & Claremont (I may have one of the names wrong) that caused one guy to try and retcon the other guy's stories by coming up with the idea of Dr. Doom robots? I know Shooter has allegedly been involved in his share of dust ups, too.

T'Challa is quite possibly my favorite Avenger. First of all, he just looks visually cool. Plus, as a kid, I always thought black panthers were the coolest animals (besides rhinos) though this is before I knew about the civil rights group. I also think that T'Challa is just the world's coolest nerd. He is so noble, educated, and mentally strong. I vaguely rememer one issue where he was hoping to settle down to some poetry or something for relaxation (and I think was recommending the same to a fellow Avenger). I also remember where he took exception to Iron Man wanting to use Kovac's squeeze as a hostage. Agree or disagree, that tells you a lot about the character. When I was a kid, running around outside, he was one of the superheroes I pretended to be, along with the Beast, Quicksilver, and the Flash. I guess I have a thing for speedsters and agility guys.

If the question was meant for me, I meant any Supberboy. I think it's nice to have him, but I don't think it's essential that he's a member. He served as their inspiration, and that's geat, but I don't think that means he needs to travel throguh time and join them.

He sent me a link to his blog where he discusses the Black Panther and I have a question for you all--did you all get the impression over the years that the Black Panther had no super powers? I was under the impression that his mystical herb was the herbal equivalent of Captain America's super soldier- formula, giving him, not true super powers, per se, but putting him at the very limits of what a non-super powered human can do. It did seem like his senses were very sharp, though. I remember once where they were underground fighting the Mole Man (I think) and he was the only one who could see in the dark.

I don't know what's worse - fill-ins like we had back in "the old days" or the long delays we often get with titles now. There were even a couple of instances where The Avengers had a delay and they filled it by reprinting an old comic! One was when they reprinted an Amazing Adventures issue with the Beast (before he was an Avenger) and Iron Man. I'd be especially annoyed at this if I'd had a subscription!

I can't think of a lot I've read by Isabella, though I liked his two issue Assassin story in the Avengers. I remember Isabella mainly for two things: Marvel's short-lived The Champions, which I liked back in the Groovy '70's, and Tony's Tips! in the pages of the Comics Buyers Guide. RE: the two-issue Assassin fill-in in Avengers 145-146 was such a disappointment to me! I've commented a few times around here (and I find that I am about the only one who didn't like the story) that it just really irked me that the dreaded deadline doom struck right in the middle of the very good Serpent Crown Affair story arc. IIRC, it was Christmas 1975, and I got Avengers #145 as a stocking stuffer. What the?!? Where the devil was the Perez art, and the continuation of the story I was reading?? And now we get Don Heck art? Not happy... So story aside (which I didn't think was all that great anyway once I'd recovered from my shock), the disappointment has always outweighed any other merits the story might have held. I bought both TPB's which contrain the entire run of The Champions. I'm very excited to read it, but I am insisting that I finishe re-reaading my Avengers first, so it will probably be a few months before I get around to them. As far as the Assasin story, I wasn't collecting comics quite yet, or at least not Avengers, so I have no bias against the story for ruining my Christmas! LOL SPOILER ALERT Also, the only thing I didn't quite like about it was the very end where the assassin's father shot the brother then himself. I do like thefact that the assassin was shot by her own men because they didn't recognize her, because she was so secretive that they never knew who she was. Some poetic jstice ther, I think.

Just some very quick thoughts on the writers mentioned. I love Denny O'Neil's JLA and Batman stuff from the 70's. I love Cary Bates' Legion of Super-Heroes stuff. Underrated, IMO. I like BIll Mantlo's stuff, though the only think I associate him with is the Micronauts. I guess he had long runs on the Hulk and Spectacular Spider-Man, but I was never into those titles. I can't think of a lot I've read by Isabella, though I liked his two issue Assassin story in the Avengers. I like Conway's JLA, Legion of Super-Heroes, and Batman/Detective stuff. I'm not sure I've read enough Skeates stuff to form an opinion of any kind.

There will always be a market for paper books and comics as long as I'm alive! I agee that digital comics largely misses the point. I don't mind getting my daily news digitally, though.

Interesting thought on Nick Fury. I've never followed him other than his appearances in The Avengers, though. I think you're right about Cap. They definitely did try to cram his great leadership down our throats.

Whom you vote for here probably depends on what your favorite comics are to you. I didn't vote for Norman or Gwen because I don't read much Spider-Man.

Spiderwasp, you are splitting up Vision & the Scarlet Witch? Shame on you. ;-)
I like the idea of a West Coast team (sorry, no Bendis team).
So, I will readjust my East coast lineup, moving Clint and Beast to tha West Coast:
East Coast: 1) Black Panther 2) Captain America 3) Wasp 4) Vision 5) Thor 6) Scarlet Witch 7) She-Hulk Reservist: Hank Pym (Yellowjacket or Ant-Man)
1) Hawkeye 2) Beast 3) Hercules 4) Black Widow 5) Mockingbird 6) Wonder Man 7) Quicksilver reservists: Iron Man and Tigra

I agree with all of this, but things are MUCH more confusing at DC! I don't even think the creators know what's going on!
