I've always enjoyed characters that grow and develop as the years go by, so I'll have to go with Crystal. She was downright boring in her early days in the FF. She had enormous power, but we never really saw it get used. Instead, she just stood around mooning over Johnny. Later, through her marriage and breakup with Quicksilver, her membership in both the Avengers and the FF (post Torch), and motherhood, she grew into a fascinating character. Her powers did turn out to be formidable, she exhibited flaws (Such as her affair), and loyalty, and her claws really came out when her child was endangered. Also as sister to Medusa, sister in law to Black Bolt, cousin to the other Inhumans and Maximus, mother to Luna, ex-romantic interest to the Human Torch and Black Knight, rival to Sersi, wife to Quicksilver, sister in law to the Scarlet Witch and Vision, and daughter in law to Magneto, master of Lockjaw, and teammate to the Inhumans, Avengers, and Fantastic Four, she may be the single character most firmly planted within the Marvel Universe.

Are these currently on sale or are they still forthcoming?

I guess the origin for my name is pretty obvious. Spider-man and the Wasp are two of my favorite characters and I thought their arachnid/insect names went well together. I'm also a big fan of Quicksilver and Strong Guy but Quickguy just sounded like a lousy lover. As for why I went with all lowercase, that's a good question. I'm actually a teacher and it irritates me when my kids don't capitalize proper nouns. Boy, I sure do irritate myself sometimes.

I'm not sure I care that there are members who don't post. When I joined, it was because I was enjoying reading the other posts and wanted to put my two cents worth in. It never occured to me to worry about how many members there actually were. This is, after all, a posting for comic books. It's not of some political or socialogical importance. If there is a purge, isn't there a record somewhere of how often people actually log in? If they are logging in but not posting, let them. If they have just dropped the site altogether-that's different. They may as well be purged. And yes, I do get the point that they can view without logging on so there is not reason to log on unless you might post but if they do log on, maybe they will post eventually. Either way, it's no big deal.

Rex, I couldn't agree more with what you said. I too completely understand why Marvel would put Wolverine in the Avengers or have Spider-man publicly unmask. However, that doesn't mean I like it or that it doesn't make me feel cheated by the company I've invested a small fortune in over the past 30 years. If we long-time fans complained and were told "Sorry, we have to make money and this is what sales. Doing what you want just wasn't proving as marketable," I wouldn't like it, but I could understand. When they respond with "We're doing this for the good of the team and because it's a big improvement over anything you've ever read," or "You people just don't like change" I don't accept it as well.

To be quite honest, I think my fellow Fantastic Four fans will take a Storm/Panther FF about as well as the Avengers fans took Echo and Wolverine on the Avengers. I get really tired of people implying (Or outright saying) that we Avengers fans who don't like Wolverine and company on the team just automatically don't like change. The changes in Avengers were badly written. If the changes in FF are badly written, we won't like them either, but if they are handled well - most of us are perfectly capable of loving them.

The Marvel Value Stamps bring back a lot of memories - I 'ruined' a number of comics cutting those darn things out!! Tell me about it. For me that includes Hulk 181 (With Wolverine). Arghh.

Spiderwasp Engage I'm still around. I've just had a really busy schedule lately. I haven't even managed to pick up the new MA. It's nice to be missed though.

I'm sorry to see BB leave. I also thought we had all been getting along remarkably well lately, partially due to not having as many posts on a daily basis but still the one's that have been here have been pretty pleasant. Oh well.

Hmm, I had noticed a few days ago that we are having more posts but less people. Even some of those who used to be regulars seem to be gone (hopefully temporary) Speaking as one of the former regulars who hasn't posted in a couple of weeks (And this only goes for me, I'm not trying to speak for anyone else) I think you have addressed the very reason for the problem. I was really enjoying these boards for awhile. I would post something and wait to see who would respond and how. Sometimes it would be someone agreeing with me, and sometimes disagreeing (I really don't mind being disagreed with) but it was fun because it was unpredicatable. That changed shortly before I decided on a leave of absence. We got to the point that every comment made elicited an immediate counterpoint, usually by the same person. It didn't really matter what the opinion was, the response was the same and by the same person or persons. I was no longer able to have conversations with Rex, Tananile, dlw, shiryu, uberwolf, etc. because every thread was taken over by the same old "Your wrong" "Your wrong" "Your wrong". I decided that if I already knew what was going to happen with every post, there wasn't much point in making them. As I said, I'm not trying to speak for anyone else, but I think it's possible that some of the others who have stopped posting recently may have done so for similar reasons. I already know that the first response to this will be "I have a right to my opinion and I intend to express it," so I'll go ahead and address that now. I totally agree that everyone has their right to their own opinion and, as I've stated before, I think these boards would get boring if we all just agreed about everything. However, my response is that there are a lot of us who feel the same way about a lot of things and would like to discuss our views without being challenged on every word we say. I want to hear everybody's views but not in response to every post. There, how's that for stirring up a hornet's nest?

Okay, I'm going to try very hard to be optimistic. I'm certainly no fan of Bendis and would rather anyone (Especially Dan Slott) take over the new book, but I am so desperate for a good Avengers book again that I will reserve judgement. I did, however, find his comments to be less than encouraging. Basically "If you like the old books, go back and read them." I don't think anyone wants him to copy the old books - times changes - but I resent the implication by him and many of his supporters that anyone who doesn't like what he does, just can't handle change. That's not true. Many of us simply don't like the pace or characterizations he has brought out. Hopefully, his conscious effort to be different with this book will help. The bad side is that, if the new book fails, Bendisheads will say it's because no one wanted to read about the old school and it's now been proven. If it succeeds, it will be because Bendis is such a great writer. Either way, he comes out smelling like a rose.

Spiderwasp, I'm glad you cleared that up! You know, I was going to ask how you obtained Spidey #37 because it was published in 1966 (and I know that's before your comics buying time)!!! Maybe I should have just left it as it was and pretend I was a child prodigy who was reading fluently at the age of 2. On the other hand, I feel old enough as it is with making everyone think I'm a good 10 years older than I really am. By the way, I agree that this is a good thread. Ah, the memories.

Heh, I just realized I said Spidey #37. I guess everyone realized I actually meant #137. I'm not quite old enough to have read #37 when it was still new.

Sharkar, I'm glad you resurrected this thread. I seem to remember referencing this somewhere but it apparently wasn't here.
I have been reading comics for so long that I really can't remember a time when Marvel was not a part of my universe. For that reason, I can't say what the first book I read was but here are some of earliest memories.
The first one I really remember was Amazing Spider-man #37 with Harry Osborne as the Goblin holding Aunt May, MJ, and Flash Thompson under the threat of bombs. Of course, to me, it just seemed like MJ was Peter's girlfriend and Flash was his best friend, not having read anything earlier. I was hooked however and greedily soaked in all I could about the real backstories that went much deeper. I think I especially related to Peter when I found out he came from Forest Hills. The neighborhood I lived in was called Forest Hills and I didn't often feel like I fit in that well at school either. I even had an Aunt May. I thought that was really cool.
The first Avengers story I remember was the Zodiac cartel story where they were going to kill all the Geminis in Manhattan. This hit home to me too because I was a Gemini. It's amazing what makes a story connect for a kid, but I really empathized with the unfairness of what Zodiac was doing because I knew that if I were in Manhattan, I too would be a victim. Wow! First time out and the Avengers saved me. (If that was really the first issue I read.)
I also remember one DC title that might have even been before the Spidey one and that's the classic Superman vs. Flash race. I didn't particularly relate to that one but I really liked it.
It's funny but I really have a hard time imagining some kid from today growing up and looking back with the same fondness as they say "The first story I remember was about how the Sentry had been around forever and he could do all kinds of things even though it was a couple of years before I saw any evidence of it. I went out and frantically bought every old issue I could so that I could discover his complex history. The confusion hooked me completely." Nevertheless, I'm sure that's just what will happen because, just like many of you hate the old Zodiac story, it was where I began and it will always hold a very warm place in my heart.

I loved the old cards of the early 90s. There were several really nice sets of MU cards and sets for X-Men and Spidey. Then the cards got thicker and the price got so high, I can't imagine how anyone was able to buy enough packs to get a set. Now all the cards are game related (As the recent Avengers set was) and the art is small and crappy. I'd love to see a well-drawn set of Avenger cards featuring heroes, villains, and allies new and old.
In particular, I'd like to see characters who were never featured on the old cards like Hell-cat, Triathalon, Ms. Marvel, Tigra, and Living Lightning get their due. I don't recall villains like Graviton, Nekra, or Space Phantom ever being featured either.
If these were high quality and reasonably priced, would you buy them?

Hmm, I agree on Jarvis, for the Avengers stories, and Namor more in general. Of course I also love when Spidey shows up in guest appareances, but he is one of my Marvel favs so I may not be too objective. Another one I liked was Paladin, I would have wanted to see more of him, but that never really happened, and pretty much the same goes for Starfox. Did you pick up the 2 Starfox issues of She-Hulk? I too was glad to see him back. The Avenger I always wanted to see be a little more active was Hell-cat. I like her but Moondragon cut her stay so short. (Unless of course you count the Avengers Reborn thing, which I don't)

Well I don't have kids, and I am an extremely fast reader. Most comics take me about 5 to 7 mins. to read. NA takes me about 1. LOL Oh, you mean NA has upped the number of words per issue that dramatically? Wow!

Regularly: New Avengers (Mostly because I'm trying to hang in there waiting for better days) Young Avengers (Love it) She-Hulk Ms. Marvel Fantastic Four Thing (Though apparently not for much longer, Too bad!) Squadrine Supreme Civil War & Frontline Son of M
Notice the omission of anything with Spider or X in the title. I love Spidey but he and the mainstream mutants are just too much to follow. They're everywhere and I can't keep up with it all so I pretty much avoid them. I did pick up a couple of Spidey "Road to Civil War" issues but they certainly didn't hook me back in. These days I couldn't even tell you who's on any particular X team.
