As fans of well-constructed exciting stories in combination with beautiful dynamic sequential art. ;D That was my answer! ;D

Wundy? I can see we have a lot of old time Marvel readers around here. Very nice little story abourt George Perez, by the way, Wundy.

I think you're right about Roy on Thor, HB. He majored in History and English in college and I have a hunch he'd really get into the mythology aspect of Thor. Plus, Roy's good on just about anything.

I've read the whole run in Marvel Masterworks Silver Surfer volumes 1 and 2. I thought it started out very well, but lost traction after a while. The art was certainly very good, though, and certain issues were all around excellent. The Silver Surfer is one of my all time favorite characters, when handled right, so I was pretty happy to pick up those TPB's. Overall I'd give the run a B or B+. I think that while Stan did a very good job, some of the ideas wore thin after a while. Still, most definitely worth picking up!

OK, having now read the article, I'm a bit worried about Whedon's plans for Ultron. Lord help us when filmmakers try to make our beloved comic book characters more "interesting".

An Avengers and Shakespeare mash-up? HB, you are a genius! lol. I always wanted to see them do a "Midsummer Nights Dream" parody with the whole Quicksilver, Crystal, Black Knight Sersi thing. Sersi's Eternal buddy, Sprite, could be the Puck character and decide to give the Black Knight a potion to make her fall for him but he accidently gives it to Pietro instead and he falls for Sersi. Let the comedy begin. I like it. We could also do a Henry IV with Thor as Henry V, Odin as Henry IV, and of course HB, I mean Volstagg, as Falstaff.

I liked Nebula in the Roger Stern, Monica Rambeau in another galaxy story, and I thought she was pretty good in the story from around 1990 where Spider-Man joined the Avengers for about 5 minutes but yeah, she has kinda been all over the place as a character, hasn't she?

I think I've mentioned this here before, but King-Size Special #1 was my first Avengers back issue, and so always has a special place in my heart. Not to mention, it's a pretty cool cover, even thoug I don't really know why the Avengers are all breaking through that brick wall, and with smiles on their faces no less.
I agree with HB about the Enchantress. I liked the crush on Thor thing, which made her more relatable and also sort of makes her an immportal version of Thundra, I suppose, with Thundra's non-stop crush on Ben Grimm. The Executioner is OK, though I mostly think of him as the Enchantress's boy toy.

I actually did like this story. Thane Ector is a reasonably cool looking character. These covers are OK, though nothing special. I thought it was a pretty good story overall, though there were some illogicalities, such as why didn't the Collecter even try to stop Sersi, Thane, & the fool? I know Quasar was protecting them, but the Collector seemed very powerful, and all he did was shout "no". Also, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me why the Collector wanted to destroy most of the humans so that he could keep the few survivors. If that's his attitude, why doesn't he do that with every species he collects? Also, some cliched dialogue, such as the Watcher telling the Collector "as you said, I can only watch" but still kinda cool.

Quite true, Marvel Boy. I doubt anyone truly thinks he is evil. Even Hitler probably thought he was doing the right thing. Now, Latverians wanting Doom back as dictator may be laying it on a bit thick, but it did make for an interesting topic of discussion. After all, in Plato's Republic, the ideal system of government is rule by a wise King, rather than a democracy. I'm not saying Doom is that guy, but it does make for an interesting talking point.

This is a true classic. What a great challenge to the new and struggling quartet. Wow, I'd forgotten how great #25's cover is. Interesting how popular #25's cover is (and well-deserved, IMO). And it looks like Marvel really liked that cover too--or at least had the photostat handy -- because a couple of years later, #25's "melodramatic," "overwrought" characters were inserted/pasted into a panel in Avengers Annual/Special #1 (1967). I assume the original Heck panel wasn't deemed sufficient or had become damaged, necessitating the substitution. Wow, nice find, Sharkar.

Sun Boy died?! That is terrible that they did it off panel. That reminds me of how they killed Cyclops off screen in X3. Yes, I agree that Tinya is better written as a stronger character.

#25 - great cover, though the poses byt the Avengers are rather melodramatic. #156 - I like that one a lot, too, largely because it was one of the first Avengers comics I ever had. I didn't buy it on the newstand but traded a friend for it.

I actually considered this latest LOSH title to be a good, quality Legion comic book. I thought Levitz did a great job of writing stories that were consistent to the pace and action that I enjoyed as a kid reading comics in the 1980s. And the art was always nice, the coloring excellent, IMO. But I feel I was the only one enjoying this series. Even the older guys (well, my age guys) at my LCS weren't impressed with this book. I'm interested if anyone on the AA boards was reading this "last" run by Levitz. ?? I'm an 80s baby, and for my taste, I'd have trouble comparing any current comic titles' consistency and quality to this title. In other words, it was my "go-to" comic that I would enjoy consistently month-to-month. (Kind of like A&L's Guardians of the Galaxy, and Heroes for Hire, RIP). btw, I just read #21, and the destruction and death continues--- kinda sad (I think) I know how it's going to end--- but it's still a great comic ,(the art and color is SO good), and I'm loving it even more since time is almost up. I've only read volume 1 of the TPB. I thought it was good, but I wasn't blown away by it or anything. I'd probably need to read some more issues to give it a fair shake. Maybe they'll make their way into a dollar bin at some point.

I'm pretty disappointed, but I'm starting to get used to this---Guardians of the Galaxy, Heroes for Hire......Just another example of why I feel like I'm losing touch with popular opinion of what is considered "good". Most things I like are disappearing, and replaced by garbage. So I'm not the only one then?

Wow, yeah, Gravitron and Nefaria do look a lot alike, don't they. Come to think of it, I think I'm getting them confused right now. As for Power Man, yeah, he was pretty bland. I do think it's really cool that he fought Luke Cage for the rights to the Power Man name. This is always how such disputes should be resolved. ;D He did get powered up for a time, I think in the late 80s, perhaps? I wholeheartedly agree...! In fact, I´ve decided I want to take the name "ultron69" for myself... . So tell me where and when do you wanna meet for our tussle. Oh it´s on, now... So tell me, ´what yer gonna do, brother, when Bongomania runs wild all over you... !!! ;D Hmmm, if I lose this tussle, I'll have to challange Humanbelly for that moniker. I guess I'd better eat my Wheaties!

I have liked Gravitron, maybe because of when he first appeared, right around when I started collecting The Avengers. Also, he's such an over the top, egotistical, villanous villain, that I just thought he was a fun baddie.

New, young readers? Heck, it's already too late-- they're already spoken for, and don't show any ihterest in coming back. But STEP NUMBER ONE would HAVE to be to CUT THE FLIPPIN' COVER PRICE IN HALF!!! Sell the cheaper lamer ads, go back to lower grade paper, whatever it takes-- but $4 per issue is going to keep that market out of reach forever. Ignoring that is simply delusional & irresponsible. I made this suggestion on another message board a few years ago (I think it may have been DC's message board, back when they had one) and somebody gave me some stuff about how they can't go back to the cheap newsprint paper because the printers are no longer set up for it, so they “have" to use the high quality (i.e. expensive) stuff that we have now. I didn't quite understand why, after all, aren't newspapers still made with that cheap newsprint stuff? Still, this guy seemed to know a lot more about the printing industry than I do, so I didn't argue the point. By the way, I agree wholeheartedly with your diatribe against the modern comics industry, and I'm glad I grew up when I did!

Ugh. As a Legion fan since the late 70's (it's my all time faovrite DC title) this is terrible news. I've not been much of a collector of new comics, though I did pick up a couple of Legion TPB's last year, but I think this is a terrible idea. It reminds me of Marvel in the 90's when they tried to make everybody into the X-Men.
