that's one of the things that brings it down for me Tana. It just didn't fit very well in my opinion.

I forgot to give it my rating.
Despite the high points this one gets an average 6 Loonies out of 10.
I try to keep those flashes non-specific. Sort of like teasers to get you to lat down FF.
If anyone thinks I say to much, let me know, I'll put up a spoiler buffer. I don't want to ruin anyones fun.

Ok this one fares a little better than the earlier review. Some things of note. 1. Hawkeye back as hawkeye, except for the nice little mini-skirt he's wearing 2. The full contingent Cap Iron Man Thor Black Panther Ant Man Wasp Black Knight Hulk Quicksilver Scarlet Witch Hawkeye Hercules and even the Swordsman 3. The reuturn of our currently most beloved selection for the current Mighty Avengers,... Ares. 4. enchantress OK, problems in Olympus. Ares carrying the ebony blade. But it all starts with Ares trying to start global nuclear war. But he's so much nicer now Hawk finds an amnesia ridden Herc. All eventually go to Olympus to meet the combined threat of Ares and Enchantress to save Olympus/Earth and Asgard. We also see further developments in the romance of Vision/Scarlet Witch with Pietro's discovery of Wanda's feelings. We also see the Black Knight reclaim the Ebony blade. Decent fights. Not sooo crazy about the art. Plenty of action in all three issues. and the story moves along in a manner that makes sense and keeps you interested.

The fantabulous Avengers and Captain Marvel vs. Ronan the Sccuser and The Sentry. 1. first Avengers appearange of the Supreme Intellegence and Ronan 2. We see Yellowjacket backhand the Wasp 'for her own good' a portent of things to come? 3. In an earlier issue we saw the tiniest flicker of the Vision/Scarlet Witch romance, in this run we see the first almost kiss between the two. Initiated by the Scarlet Witch and spurned by the Vision. 4 First time we see Rick Jones and captain Marvel fighting as separates in this series. 5. The first appearance of the head of security for NASA, one Carol Danvers. 6. The retirement from duty of Yellowjacket and Wasp With all of these components I thought this would be a lot more exciting. So many great storylines came from this initial offering. Alas, I was not as enthralled by the story. The fighting wasn't as great as past efforts and the story felt a little forced at times. I think it is probably because we've seen certain characters developed much further at this point. All together I can only give this offering a mere 3 Loonies out of 10.

OK this run is chock full of good stuff.
1st The growing android of Kang. I've always liked that guy, you hit him he grows. That's just fun.
2nd- One of the first time we see a large contingent of Avengers in a non-annual issue. Featured are: Cap Black Panther Iron Man Thor Yellow Jacket Wasp Goliath Vision
3rd- the development of the Kang/comatose Ramona issues. Ramona's revival was always a great motivator for Kang to go after the Avengers.
4th- the Grandmaster
5th- the Justice Leag,... I mean the squadron Sinister. I always loved Marvel's little dig at DC. Then they actually turned into a viable team.
6th I think this is the first time where we see Vision go semi-solid inside of someone. Always liked it when he did that.
7th- they fianlly stop playing around and make the Black Knight an Avenger.
So, with all these things in play I have to give this particular run
10 Loonies out of 10

OK
Good points, Black Knight is an Avenger I've always liked. He's fought alongside the Avengers in the past, but this was the first time he was really like the leader of the team.
The Avengers, along with Dr. Strange are up against Surtur and I think its Ymir. A really good battle. It shows the Avengers not being undefeatable. They are pretty much ineffective in direct attacks. Over all I would give it (here it is folks the beginning of my very own ranking system)
7 Loonies out of 10
I need some help from any Dr. Strange follower.
Why did he have a completely black head at this point in time? I remember him haveing the black head, I just never knew why.

So you're suggesting that someone is 'handling' the she-hulk already?
Isn't that risky with her being a lawyer?
and the fact that she could put you through a wall.( and not in the positive way already established by Tony Stark)

Who is your least favorite or most unneeded Avenger. I know this is a more negative question than my usual, but I think it has merit. My least favorite Avenger was Giglamesh. To me he was just a re-hash of the same old ancient strongman routine. I saw almost no difference between his character and Hercules.

It seems like they were really playing up the machismo in most of these early issues. I don't think it's just Hank, you see Hawk getting all puffy chested several times.
Another thing I really like about these issues is the role of the Black Panther. He is a strong fighter and they do a really good job writing him.

now that they have established him more firmly, as I read the latter issues when he shows up you see more personality.

but to go back to the statement about Jarvis. It does appear to be his first appearance where his character is developed in any way. That in itself does make this 2 parter significant. Jarvis has been a constant through Avengers history. He's proved he can take a beating too.

Okay, here we go.
The Avengers square off with the Masters of Evil 2nd edition.
I think that this, for me, was where the rivalry between our home team and the MOE really takes off. The fights in both issues are very well laid out.
You also have the development of one of my more liked characters the Black Knight. Also this is the first time ou really start seeing some development of Jarvis' character. As we all know by the end of the first volume Jarvis might as well have Avengers status. This issue also brings one of the biggest Avengers enemies to the forefront. Ultron 5. )Yayyy Ultron.
So in these two issues we see a lot of character and continual history development. Well worth a second look.

It was almost like the rest of the team was from the early 60's when the story WOULD be taking place, and the hulk was from now.

So Stan Lee just wakes up one morning and goes' Let's really mess with ther heads' The best thing is even though it isn't really 'quakity' Avengers timeline stuff, it's not quite a complete parody. They keep enough seriousness in it so the unsespecting reader is going "wha,.?"
Then you realize what happened and you say, of course, "Oy"

Has anyone esle read this ever? I didn't know it existed, it was published in 1999.
It is written to fill the timeline between issues 1 and 2 of volume 1. It is freakin' hilarious.
Hulk gets trapped in an anti-gravity room. When he finally gets his feetsettled on the ground, he tells the rest to wait a sec, throws up and then rejoins the team.
Later Hulk rips the head off of Dr. Doom, actually a doombot. Iron Man congratulates him for figuring out it was a Doombot, and Hulk is like,. yeah,... doombot.. Also Hulk and Thor are squabbling back and forth the whole time.
It's good for a laugh if you can find a copy

We aare in agreement about his current status DLW. Another issue is his temperment. He has always been almost completely self seving. Oh wait, that makes him a PEFECT fit for the MA ;D

Ares wasn't directly involved. He was just one of the gods that had been banished from Olympus. His main role was looking over Zues' shoulder and whining about Hercules getting all the attention.
Sorta like Loki, with more muscles, less brains and no sense of humor.

If you look back I said 'in the mediterranian' You don't actually have to be in the sea to be in the mediterranian. I believe it also applies to the geographical area.
But I am no professor.
Another thing that his two parter shows is Ares' attitude and personality. The chip on his shoulder thing.

DLW the fight in issue 49 took place on Mt Olympus. The fight in 50 takes place in the Mediterranian.
Typhon and Herc initially fight on Olympus, Herc gets sent to wherever the other gods are and Typhon goes toe Earth. Then in issue 50 he starts blowing up ships in the Mediterranian.

It was a very good fight. One of my favorites up to this point. Fightwise.
