Oh wow, I've been yakkin' my head off in several other spots, and never properly introduced myself here, like my responsible, er, "classmate" Ultron69 did-! (He and I signed up at almost exactly the same time--- I feel like we must have gone through rookie training together or something. . . ).
Not a teacher, I'm afraid-- although the same generation, apparently, as many folks here. Happily married, 48 year-old father of two. Been reading comic books since, wow, 1968, I guess (my best pal's older brothers were my inadvertant- and unknowing- suppliers at the time). Professional Theater Person--- tech director at a Small Professional Theater in DC, still occassionally acting- although waiting for both kids to get to college before taking it back up in earnest. HUGE lifelong fan of the Incredible Hulk; developed into a major Avengers fan about, oh, 20 years ago. Bought most of the mainstream Marvel title for many, many years. Finally gave up on the X-Men (Angst-Men?) and multiple associated titles sometime around the Legacy Virus arc. Too many re-boots, offshoots, crossovers, kill-offs, and price increases have winnowed me down considerably over the intervening years. Still going with AMZ SPDRMN; THOR; NEW AVE; FF; HULK--- and probably one or two I'm not thinking of.
I would like to say, straight out to all, that long-timers bobc & Sharkar have been INCREDIBLY gracious and forthcoming (and patient) in a couple of threads where we've been exchanging ideas on some occassionally heady subjects--- and exchanging them at considerable length. They couldn't have been more welcoming. Ultron's been making our mark by apparently stapling himself to his keyboard for days at a time--- I hope someone's at least bringing him protein shakes. . . And I'm delighted that NO ONE seems to mind that newbies Garada, Badgermaniac and myself have huddled up big time in the Avengers/Heroscape thread that Garada started. A completely unexpected delight for we happy few.
And I apologize in advance for a congenital inability to express myself with less words. Just. . . just skip to the end, if you must.
A pleasure to meet you all, and while away a few happy hours 'round here.
HumanBelly (HB, to muh friends. . .)

Hey everyone!
Since Belly 'outed' me as an unintroduced noob, I will have to do something about it!
Let's see, I'm 33 years old, the proud father of a 7 year old budding nerd [my daughter loves Super Heroes, giant robots and monsters]. I sell paper to the printing industry for a living, but I also draw, do graphic design and sing at an amateur level. I did win a nationwide karaoke contest one time, AND I starred in a short film made for the 48 Hour Film Contest.
I've been reading comics for all of my life, starting when my Mom worked at the Navy Exchange. We lived in Sicily, and I would go to work with her, where they had an amazing spinner rack of comics. I would read them all while I hung out at her job! I know it sounds weird for a kid, but my favorite then [and still a favorite to this day] was Swamp Thing.
I've always loved both Marvel AND DC, although I won't deny that I've gone through phases and 'love affairs' with one company over the other at various points in my life.
I don't buy comics on a weekly basis like I used to, but I still buy lots and lots of collections. In fact, I prefer buying the Hard Covers for $20 from Amazon and reading the whole story at once over spending $3-$4 per issue and waiting for the stories to come out.
My favorite writer of comics is Grant Morrison, who has done amazing things in both the Marvel AND DC Universes. I own 3 pages of original art from Grant Morrison comics [two of them from the Invisibles, one from New X-Men]. I also have a big crush on the SILVER AGE, and have read tons of classic stuff from that era, thanks in large part to a huge collection of those giant-sized Treasury Comics I bought when I was a Teen.
Besides comics themselves, I love comic movies and animation [esp the DC Animated Universe, aka Batman, Superman, Justice League / Unlimited, etc]. I also greatly enjoy playing Heroscape, and I even create my own custom Super Hero characters for use with the game [see the thread Belly was referring to for more info].
I also love Zombies, Godzilla, classic Giant Robot anime [Mazinger Z, Gundam], Samurai films, and I listen to lots and lots of music of basically all varieties [except Smooth Jazz... gak!].
Anyway, that's enough... dang, I'm more talkative than Belly himself!
Thanks to all of you for being so cool and friendly; this board is a great place to hang out!

Ah, THERE you are-- I was gettin' worried. Imagined you'd passed out at the computer. Now you likely have little keyboard dents all over your forehead. . .
Here's what I imagine a soundbyte from our cop buddy movie would be:
INTEROGANT: All right! All RIGHT!!! Enough! I'll confess!! Just, for the love mercy, would the two a' you STOP TALKING already???
Yep, it's all in knowin' how to ask the questions. . .

I would imagine I will do far more lurking than posting but here goes. I'm 43 yrs old. Began reading Avengers, FF, Spiderman and X-men around 1974. I quit reading comics after high school, then started back at disassembled(big mistake). I couldn't take much Bendis and dropped after 8 issues. Due to monetary issues, I have most of the old stuff on cd/dvd collections. Hoping sanity returns to the Marvel Universe soon.

Welcome, Squidboy! I hope you will do more posting than lurking ! I'm a DVD-ROM guy like you -- love the convenience, and it sure keeps the tape from sticking to the covers when taking a book in or out of the bag! Arrghhh!! But, as many detractors to the digital media have exclaimed, ya just can't beat the smell of musty newsprint -- and I heartily agree. I just like the best of both worlds (cue Van Halen here...).

Evenin', Squidster--
Yep, Ultron69, Garada and myself are still among the newer voices in these parts. . . but you may actually have a more solid institutional memory. Feel free to keep us on track.
You do seem to fit the current profile trend of us happy folks in our 30's/40's. This must indeed be your tribe. Thanks for jumping in--

Since I have already put in my two-cents on some of your topics, I figured I should also introduce myself. I am a 29 year old Nurse's Assistant, or CNA for short, currently living in the small town of Lake City, Florida and hope to move to Gainsville as soon as a position opens up at North Flroida Regional Hospital. I started out reading Archie comics and Green Lantern(the greatest hero of all time), before buying the 50th Aniversery Issue of Captain America in '92 at a local comic shop. Since then, I have become an avid fan of Steve Rogers, Hank Pym, Simon Williams, and most of the rest of the Avengers. I consider myself a proud comic geek in every sense of the word and am ansiously awaiting the September 2 arrival of MUA2.

My name is David Wright. I've been a Jarvis-Head for about ten or eleven years. Van and I have collaborated on a couple of "Untold Tales of Avengers" with me supplying the artwork. I wrote a chapter in the first Assembled! book and have a pair of short stories in Van's "Alternate Visions" Sentinels anthology.
I've been reading Avengers since #211. I have the whole series, Volumes 1 and 3 (I had all of 2, but I've since given them away), as well as all of West Coast Avengers and Force Works.
My favorite characters are Hawkeye, Black Knight, Hercules, Captain America and Iron Man. But don't ask me to rank them, I'd agonize on that for hours and then change my mind the next day. I will say Hercules ranks so high right now because I'm thoroughly enjoying his current solo series. If you aren't reading Incredible Herc you are missing a treat. I'm buying up Herc's appearances in Thor, Champions and his Bob Layton stories in preparation for a chapter in the third Assembled! book.
I'm a video producer, working mostly now in documentaries. I have years under my belt in broadcasting, cable advertising and live events. My documentary work has taken me all over the world, including a pair of trips to the middle of Sudan where a goat was slain in my honor as an entire village sang my praises (literally sang, they had written the song themselves.)
I'm in my late 30s, happily married and the father of a three year old future Avengers fan who currently loves dressing up as Zorro or Robin Hood. He already knows who Captain America and Iron Man are. I'm working on Hawkeye and Thor.
My favorite Avengers writer has to be Kurt Busiek. Not only did he restore "our" Avengers, rescuing them from the clutches of Rob Liefeld, but he successfully delivered a grand slam home run stories of both Ultron and Kang. If that was all he had done, he'd be getting tough competition in my book from Roger Stern and Roy Thomas. But then he gave us, on top of his regular run, Avengers Forever and JLA/Avengers. With those two giant masterpieces on his resume he leaves all other contenders in the dust.
When it comes to Avengers artists, there are only two that contend for the crown, both of whom have had two runs on the book: John Buscema and George Perez.
And you won't find a bigger Tom Palmer fan anywhere. What an amazing run for an inker: 255-402, providing a consistent look for the book over a string artists that include Buscema, Paul Ryan, Steve Epting and Mike Deodato.
What else? Outside of Avengers-related comics, I'm a big fan of FABLES. Again, if you aren't reading this one you are missing out on a treat.
I guess that covers it. Hi, everybody.

Well, I was planning on mostly lurking, but since good ol' Defdave introduced himself, I'll do the same.
My name is Jason Fritz, and I'm a long-time Avengers fan, though not as long-time as others. I started with the Harras run (which I'll still defend up to issue 375 or so) but I don't think I truly appreciated the Avengers until the amazing Busiek run in Volume 3.
I dropped off the old Avengers Mailing List many years ago, but now that I've got a nice office job I have a little time to surf the internet and read, so I've been poking around here to see what's going on.
Although not my favorite, I have been enjoying the current Bendis run on the book, and I especially loved the Civil War crossover. I had to drop my comics habit a little over a year ago for financial reasons, but I'm busy trying to catch up. Back in the day, I was a huge fan of Adam Warlock and Thunderstrike (hence my name) but in recent years I've become a much bigger Captain America fan. His death was really hard for me to read, but I love Brubaker's work and I'm looking forward to catching up with the current "Return" story.
I'm 31 years old, and have 3 kids, all of whom can at least recognize all of the major Avengers, including Hawkeye (whoo hoo!). My middle son (10 years old) is especially into comics, although he's primarily a Spider-Man fan.
Anyway, that's me. It's good to see some of the old crew again.

Dave, I have all of Herc's appearances in Thor (that is, volume 1), so if you need anything from those let me know and I might be able to help out. On another note, good to see you back in the Avengers fold, Jason.

<<Dave, I have all of Herc's appearances in Thor (that is, volume 1), so if you need anything from those let me know and I might be able to help out.>>
Scott, thanks! As a matter of fact, I would love to borrow the Gerry Conway Herc issues (approx. 221-235) and the DeFalco Herc issues (somewhere in the neighborhood of 408-425).
I have all of his AVENGER appearances, plus the full run of CHAMPIONS, the Layton mini and the Layton OGN. I will soon order ESSENTIAL THOR VOL. 2, which has all his appearances prior to AVENGERS #38, including his debut in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY ANNUAL #1.
Herc's three runs in Avengers (Thomas, Stern, Harras), his three runs in Thor (Lee, Conway, DeFalco), his starring role in Champions and his various minis and one-shots constitute all his major appearances (prior to CW and WWH).
He's shown up as a guest in things like Marvel Team-Up, Marvel Fanfare, stuff like that. And Jurgens used him a bit at the beginning of his Thor series, but I'll basically be sticking to the majors listed above.

There's a useful site called the Master List Guide that has all appearances from almost all Marvel characters. It's pretty accurate, too, but I don't think it gets updated too frequently. Check it out.

So many fond and familiar names!
My name is David Medinnus, and I'm one of Van's minions, and a Jarvis-head (more of a Winghead, but I digress...* gives PAD a quarter royalty*). IRL I'm a 45 year old software/networks admin/engineer/project manager/swiss army knife for Verizon.
No, I cannot hear you now. Shaddap!
I have been a member of most of the AML/WCAML/other lists, once their admin, known as the "Living DaveBunal" when acting as moderator. I started the Star-Spangled site in 1993, and have at least kept its wheels turning ever since. When I say "at least", its active nature varies depending on my interest in Captain America and the Avengers.
I have CA, Avengers, Hulk, and FF on DVD, and am always looking to trade copies for the Spider-Man and X-Men volumes.
Also a huge fan of THUNDER Agents, the Phantom, WoW, and microheroes.
Void where prohibited.

Yeah, its been awhile. I basically quit Avengers comics after AvDissed and the BENDIS! ego-recreation a few months later. I read the first dozen or so issues, but it was so ba... well, lets just say that it wasn't my cup of tea.
Brubaker's Cap has been the only thing I've bought from Marvel in some time, except the occasional TP collection of Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Brother, what could you have done in 13 thoughtful posts (3 years ago!) that someone saw fit to give you a negative karma-thingy? What gall! There was certainly nothing a shred out of line or offensive in your catalogue that I could see.
Nope. I'm gonna give you an exalt just for popping back up after a long absence, and to encourage your continued contribution.
