I've noticed that there are a few new members registering lately! What better way to break the ice than introducing yourself? No private details (unless you want to give them), just things like which books you read, how long you've been a marvel fun and so on, just to strengthen the sense of community I'll do it myself. I'm 26, Italian living in UK, and have been a fan of Marvel up and down for 13-14 years. Favorite books are Spider-Man, Avengers, Thor and Captain America, and favorite writers Stern, Busiek, David, Michelaine, DeMatteis, DeFalco... and a few more ^^ I'm in this forum pretty much since the beginning and have been mod for the last couple of years more or less. I prefer old school marvel to what has been going on in the last 5 years more or less, but I also like a few modern books here and there Your time now

Good idea Shiryu. I'm 44 and a high school teacher living in North Carolina. I don't ever actually remember a time when I didn't read comics. In the 80s to early 90s I was a complete Marvel Zombie, reading just about everything they published. However Avengers and Spider-man have always been my favorites. I've only ever stopped buying Avengers twice - the first time was when Heroes Reborn began and I picked it back up with Heroes Return. I've stopped Spidey a few times here and there just because there were too many titles to keep up with. One More Day was the first time I've ever stopped buying it due to not like what was going on. I currently buy Mighty Avengers, Fantastic Four, She-Hulk, Thor, Ms. Marvel and Captain America regularly and a few others off and on. I also buy Young Avengers when available. My favorite period is definitely the 70s-80s and a few of my favorite writers are Stan Lee (For sheer creativity despite the obvious frequent cheesiness), Busiek, Stern, David, and Slott (Pre-Brand New Day). I really like to see current stories and writers show respect for what has gone on before. Favorite Avengers - Wasp, Captain America, Wonderman, Beast, Vision, Scarlet Witch (Pre-Bendis), Yellowjacket, Pulsar, Quicksilver, She-Hulk and Hellcat. I really miss the days when the heroes bonded and it was more clear who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. I know that's not always the way real life is but if I wanted to read books about the way real life is I'd probably stay away from Gamma irradiated monsters, people who can stretch or catch on fire, or androids who marry mutants and walk through walls.

I'm 30 and a high school teacher in New York, but I may have to move soon, because it's getting WAY too expensive to live here these days! It'll be hard to be away from the Knicks, but I guess I have no choice...
I've been a comic book fan since the early to mid 80's. My Dad LOVED Marvel stuff, so one lazy weekend I read his back issues and got hooked! I subscribed to and read every Marvel mag I could. I like The Avengers and Tales to Astonish the most, but I think it's mostly because Henry Pym is my favorite character! The Wasp, Quicksilver, Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic, are among my top favorite Marvel characters.

Hello! My name is Woodside (or just W). I'm 25 years old and live in North Canton, Ohio -- though if all goes as planned, I'll be moving to Columbus this Fall. I'm getting married at the end of September to a wonderful lady who - even though not a super-hero fan - is more than willing to marry a man obsessed with comics.
I've been reading comics since I was 9 years old -- mainly the x-books. I recently brought my blog up-to-date with the current storylines after having read/reviewed every issue of Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, and the other core X-Men books.
My interest in Avengers came during Onslaught. I glanced at Heroes Reborn . . . but it was Heroes Return and the subsequent Busiek/Perez run that really pulled me into the Avengers. When Johns took over, I read up until "The Search for She-Hulk" story, and then dropped the title until Disassembled occured and have remained a loyal Bendis follower ever since.
It's hard for me to pinpoint an absolute favorite time peroid, but I gotta say, I'm a big fan of this one. I love what Marvel's done with making the Avengers the center of the Marvel Universe again and making it like we're in the middle of one huge story.
Sorry to say, I'm not picking up any comics at the moment, though my LCS is holding them for me until things stabilize cost-wise with the wedding. I'm currently "reading" Secret Invasion (and various tie-ins), Mighty Avengers, New Avengers, Captain America, Uncanny X-Men, X-Men Legacy, Young X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, Fantastic Four, and The Dark Tower.

Wow -- lots of teachers here!
I'm 42 (does this sound like an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, or what?? ;D) and teach high school social studies in Illinois -- this fall will be my 20th year. I am also a regional educator with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
I started reading comics when I was 6, and other than a 4 1/2 year hiatus during high school and my first semester of college have been a regular buyer of many things Marvel and DC. The Avengers is my favorite book (although I am not presently buying it due to creator disagreements), and through the years I've also loved the FF, Spidey, Batman, the Legion, and other titles off-and-on, too numerous to mention. I also collect action figures and various other cool things that catch my eye.
I've been on these boards for several years and really enjoy the climate around here. We've certainly had some ups and downs, but this seems to be a high point if you will, where folks stop by to put in their two cents. Lately that's been OK -- we've had a real sense of "agree to disagree", which has fostered some nice conversations. As it should be.

Doug's right - I feel like I am in a confessional...
OK, I'm 43, a native Californian exiled to the desert of Arizona. I am not now, nor have I ever been, a teacher (it was starting to sound like that was a requirement!). I've been reading comics since I was about 5, and I grew up a Marvel fan, although I read some DC as a kid. Avengers has always been my favorite all-time book. I've also enjoyed Thor, Spider-Man, Legion of Super-Heroes, and a lot of lesser known 70s material, like Warlock, Deathlok, Killraven, Captain Marvel, etc.
Currently, some of my favorite titles are Guardians of the Galaxy, Young Avengers Presents, JSA, Walking Dead, The Twelve, Avengers Initiative, and Northlander.
I've been hanging around the AA boards for what, 2 years now? That's my guess. I really love it here; as Doug said, we have had our ups and downs but the camaraderie and knowledge base here can't be beat.

*scribbles down details and secret IDs for the Registration Project*
Uh? Naa, you've got nothing to worry, go on... ;D
It's interesting that there are so many teachers. About an year ago I was translating a book from Italian about the development of comics, from the "it's kids' stuff" concept to the present one in countries like France, where they are considered a proper form of literature (and often cost as much -_-)
The author said that it wasn't until those who used to read comics grew up to become respectable people like scientists, teachers, doctors and so on, while still remembering, mentioning or reading their heroes, that the general opinion started to change. That's certainly ringing true now ^^
PS
I always find funny that the first thing the so called Alcoholics Anonymous say at a meeting is their full name ;D So much for anonymous ^^

I grew up in the Bronx and I now live in NJ (who woulda thought?!?) with my Wife of 3 1/2 years. I work in Law Enforcement, I'll be 43 years old in August and I've collected comics since about age 8. They are a part of who I am and I guess it's more of an outlet as I've gotten older. My Wife is not really into it, but totally accepts it. Oh!, with our first child on the way, did I mention I refuse to grow up?!? I've collected both Marvel and DC over the years as I'm a huge Legion of Superheroes fan (have the entire collection from Adventure issue 247). I'm also a JLA fan (near complete collection as well). I also have a pretty strong Titans collection. But through the years (active collector or not) I've always been a fan of the Avengers. I'm proud to say that I have every single issue (spin-off and others) of the Avengers beginning with 1963's issue# 1. My favorite character has always been Quicksilver. He always had this cool, couldn't care less what people thought of him, I'll stand up to anyone attitude!!! Totally the opposite of me, but I think that's why I like this character. I always had a thing for team books which included character interaction and heroes living together (and more than not, people on the same team who really couldn't stand one another!!!). The Avengers always made for great story telling. The three issues that stand out in my mind as a kid are issues# 101 (got this from an older kid in the neigborhood), 129 (I think I was in 4th grade & got it from a friend) and the classic 161(bought this one brand new from "Cappy's", our local candy store). Avengers Assemble!!!

Obviously I'm not new and we're trying to get the new folks to introduce themselves here-- but I will point out that I, too, teach-- I am a prof. of Political Science and History at a small college near St. Louis.
I'm thrilled to have so many new members here, and to see so many of the earlier crowd still around. Sorry to be so infrequent in my appearances. I do keep an eye on things here most of the time!

Well, as you can probably guess, my name is Scott Harris. I've been on the boards off and on for awhile now, though I joined the original Avengers Mailing List back in 1997. I started reading comics in 1984 and completed my collection of Avengers about six years later. I stopped "collecting" comics for a period of about ten years, during which I just read them and then chucked them in a giant pile; this was partially due to the fact that I had finished complete runs of everything I was collecting at the time. Eventually I realized I could just start collecting new titles, and that got the juices flowing again.
After 22 years as one of the most loyal Avengers fans on Earth, I finally stopped reading and collecting Avengers thanks to Bendis, whom I loathe. Other than Avengers, I have a complete run of Captain America (starting with ToS #58) and my big collecting mountain to climb right now is Thor. I only buy a few comics these days -- Thor, Captain America, Jonah Hex, RASL and Young Avengers and Astro City when they are available. Some of my other past favorites are the original Jonah Hex (along with Weird Western), the original Ghost Rider (along with Marvel Spotlight) and the original Warlord, which again I have complete runs of; I love the offbeat 70's stuff. Along with those, some other offbeat 70's stuff I am into are Unknown Soldier (including Star Spangled War Stories; still need 2 issues) and Our Fighting Forces featuring the Losers (need 1 issue). I'm also a fan of Mike Grell (missing 3 issues of Jon Sable and have all his Green Arrow), Starman, Sandman Mystery Theatre, Box Office Poison, Bone, original Elfquest and so on.
It's kind of funny that Avengers is my favorite title, since you can see that almost all of my other favorite books are not conventional superhero titles. But, whatever. My favorite era is the mid-late Roy Thomas run, from #51-100. Close seconds are the Shooter era (#158-177), the Stern run (#227-285, though I also like the Yellowjacket stuff by Shooter leading up to Stern) and Kurt's run, especially the Kang epic and Avengers Forever.
There you have it.

Also a teacher (middle school).
I started reading comics when I was about 8 back in the mid 70's. I was one of those kids who always got in trouble in school for reading a comic rather than whatever we were doing in class.
I guess I always liked the team-type comics. Aside from Avengers, I also enjoyed Invaders and X-Men (I have the fabled GS1 copy but I read it so much, that it is a mess).
Anyway, my first Avengers was 150 and I bought them faithfully until about 200 or so. After that, my interest sort of dwindled. I didn't pick them up again until about 5 years ago when going through my old box of books.
I now have the entire Avengers run (minus 3 issues I believe) and just purchased the entire run of West Coast Avengers, though I haven't started reading them.
My favorite character is the Vision and I am partial the lineup of my youth (Shooter era).
I don't have anything after Disassembled for two reasons. First, I have a hard time accepting the new composition of the group (Wolverine and Spidey are fine, but not Avengers in my book). Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, I don't really know where to start.
With so many crossovers and titles, I feel like I can't just purchase one title to follow without getting lost. Do I follow MA, NA, Initiative, etc.
Whoops, I take that back, I did read the first two volumes of the Ultimates.

OK. Who am I. I realy don't know. I'm still working on it.
I started reading funny books (as Dad called them) before we started shooting Kennedys and Kings. Remember Superman meeting John Kenneday. Started reading Marvel at FF 51. I remember Dad being in the hospital and Mom buying a fist full of funny books and that issue stands out. When I was little DC was the King and I read tons of Teen Titans, Superboy, the JLA and the Flash. When I was a little kid, Dad gave me and my 6 siblings funnybooks from the "40s and "50s, including oringal JSA stories. We quickly turnrd them to confetti.
In the 70's I became known as the "Comic Book Guy" in my home town and somehow acquired collections of Batman and early Marvel. I sold most of these for a dime a piece which causes nightmares to this day.
Having read almost everything from the mid 60's to the late 90's I became an instant reference point for my friends who actually wrote or drew books. I even created a comic book with a friend who went on to work for Marvel. And I've been in a handful of books, but never in the Avengers.
And when my friends went on to create books I sold them. At one point I was concidered the "comic book expert" in the great state of Maine. When Superman "died", I was in every paper and on the local news in Maine.
I met my wife at the comic book store and we've been married for over 17 years. She's a huge Avenger fan. She's a Trekker too, 2nd Generation. Our daughter thinks we're geeks but loves us for it. She's a Shatner fan.
I jump from job to job and can't always keep in touch but I love this site. Keep on truckin.

My name is Tony. 45 years old and a lifelong Avenegrs fan.
I have been reading the Avengers since '76. I collect action figures and make customs as well. I have every bought/made every Avengers in the roster. Currently working on making customs of every Avenegrs villain (gonna take a while). I guesss I am more a traditionalist when it comes the the group. I only read comics in TPB form nowadays. The new Avengers books are ok but I prefer the older stuff. Also, I'm finishing up my Avengers mansion that I made to hold the figures (6 inch). I'll post some pics on here if I can figure out how. I haven't been on this site for a few years. When I tried to register today it said the name was already in use (and I actually remembered my password!) So here I am again.

My fav avenger is cap and i greatly miss him but bucky is doing ok.. hope steve comes back tho, for me the greatest avengers era was stern/buscema... the assault on avengers mansion, war with the olypian gods ect. I am also a big nova fan hence the username, maybe oneday rich will be ready for the avengers. I also collect thor ithink JMS is doing great things with the title. I started collecting marvel gee i dunno maybe 23 years ago prolly more , spidey was my introduction, ido not like most of the current marvel U i find it just too dark but i enjoy thor, nova, GoTG, and i collect Capt. america to see how bucky does and hopefully the return of steve one day. I am from Edmonton, alberta Canada so another international fan hope to join in a few discussions very soon. Avengers asemble !!!

Welcome Nova36 So you've been around since before Civil War but we just didn't know it, huh? That's cool. Just don't tell us you've been posting all this time and we just don't remember it or we might rename you Sentry and I'm sure you don't want that. Seriously, based on your comments it sounds like you'll fit right in with most of us. Glad to have you aboard officially.

Hello all, longtime visiter, first time post. My name's Matt and I've been collecting Avengers (the main title) since right before Disassembled and have been working on collecting anything/everything Avengers since (figures, cards, comics, novels, etc)
I'm a big West Coast Avengers fan and an even bigger Hawkeye/Ronin fan (planning to get a tattoo of him at somepoint).
Like I said, nice to be part of the boards and nice to meet everyone.

I'm 40, from Rochester, NY, and have been an Avengers fan since about 1977. I'm mostly a fan of team books (Avengers, X-Men, JLA, Legion of super-Heroes) though I like Batman and the Silver Surfer as well. I've pretty much hated everything Bendis has done, plus Secret Invasion didn't catch my fancy, so I am not too much into the stuff from the past few years. I don't think I'll consider picking up anything until Bendis is off the books.
