There is no way I can remember where I ranted on this before (somewhere right after CW ended showing a lead-in to initiative) But I am glad to see more fans are coming to be tired of the 'one-right-after-the other' routine.
I wonder if Marvel is just afraid to try to write stand alone stories anymore. Maybe they just don't feel like they have the talent?

Van, what is the charity being supported. Could you provide a little background on the institution please?

I was hoping at the end of the issue it would turn out that it was me who assaulted Gauntlet. I am tired of the NW references

Doom,... the thing is, your example of killing someone is an extreme one. Again the argument comes down to something more problematic than death.
Freedom
If killing, or letting one person die would save multitudes, maybe.
But infringing on the freedoms of anybody is a different matter. As Tana said, there is a slippery slope to this one.
Another aspect of this is that a small group of indivduals,... not an elected body,... are deciding who deserves freedom to live their lives and who does not. Also slippery.
Back to the other part of this discussion, someone pointed out that maybe Pym was about to grow a pair and start bringing things in-line. I hope so.

I have to think you are right about moonstar NP. It looks like her shadow if she hasn't changed her hairstyle.

As far as that New Warriors Schtick, I think Gauntlet and Vance might be headed for words about that. “Gauntlet…I would have words with thee.” That's just not as moving coming from Vance. ;D

Why are the people of Stamford okay with having a training camp for rookie heroes in their town? Seems to me that'd open all kinds of wounds... Gauntlet's crack about the New Warriors moved him from the merely annoying to the downright unlikeable. It's like the man has no understanding of what really happened, and no sense of decency or compassion. I think there is a scene in the first issue that shows protesting outside the gated isn' t there. As far as that New Warriors Schtick, I think Gauntlet and Vance might be headed for words about that.

Y'know, I've spent so much time criticizing the boot camp aspect not being very tru to form, I never got around to saying, I'm sort of enjoying this. I am looking forward to the character development.
I also agree with Vance. That 'New Warrior 'crap is wrong. I liked the warriors.

Yeah but think about this. He never has liked supers. I believe he's made that clear enough on multiple occasions. I think he was originally created to show how some people react when they feel inadequate. I think he has always felt that way next to them. and any time his job allowed him to wavr that responsibility/power over their heads, I think he gets a thrill out of it.

I can see what you are saying Phantom. But let me share my view on Gyrich. He is the ultimate beauracrat. He doesn't care about reasons or circumstances. He's drunk on the rulebook and elated with the power that gives him over others.
Put it this way,.. he'd be great in the DMV
thats my take on it.

if you're following Black Panther at all you know that has already happened. Noit only found the gate but have passed into our universe.

again though, Gyrich is one of the better one-dimensional charaters, in that you can always be sure that no matter what his plans are it'll eventually turn out badly for any heroes involved.

now the cannon fodder thing is in keeping with Gyrich's character. He has always seen the Super-hero population as weapons only. To be used and disposed of at the Nations wishes, and ultimately at his own personal discretion.

Again, it just seems like the attempt to make a boot-camp comparison just doesn't even work.
If these are still new recruits, why are they already in full combat situations?
It is all a little too rushed. I still plan to get at least one more issue, but if I feel that way after reading #2 I'll probably save some money there as well.

The thing is Balok, there are plenty of people that have shown up that at first seemed to have useless powers. I am sure, that with the help of her training she will discover new depths and developments to her powers.

Stingray?!? Really??? That's one of those folks I always wondered how he ever got to be an Avenger. Maybe if the new class of characters were somewhat interesting, or the people running it weren't basically villains, or they hadn't killed the character whom I liked the best. But as it is, it would be a toss up between reading this book, and having my arm torn off because the kids were yelling! I think he was like the kid in your neighborhood that was richer than everyone else. You let him play because he had the cool toys. When the Avengers needed a place to launch Quinjets from due to FAA regulations, he had an island for them. (Hydrobase)

reading what is happening currently your timeline is a little frayed toward the end. I think the timeline you lay out would be better, I just still don't see them paying a lot of attention to sticking to a timeline.
I think, as a rule, they arent really comsidering our collective intelligence. They don't take into account that things for most comic readers have to have a certain logic to them. This is one of the thing that I think tends to disappoint some of the longer term individuals.

The sad thing is that we are paying a lot more attention to placing this into a correctly occuring timeline than,... say,... the writers.
I don't think they really worry too much about timelines, just put out the product. I know that's a negative point of view but there is a lot of stuff crammed into a short period of time here. I just don't think they're focused much on time frame.

It would still have to be crammed into roughly the same time fram because it NA fights the already formed MA

Without knowing how the NA vs. MA thin turns out in NA, it's hard for me to decide if it would be before or after.
But your explanation is as good as any for now.

If Tony calls Reed for anything short of Armegeddon, and Reed comes back, Sue needs to take his head off with a force bubble.
Reed isn't needed right now.
Several of us don't like the direction Marvel has take with many of our heroes. This is one area I just want fixed. Reed and Sue have to get it together.
