I think Kurt introduced Detective Plexico in IRON MAN (vol. 3) #6. I'm not exactly sure, though. I don't have the issues handy.
It was near the start of the storyline that involved the finding of the Whitney Frost (Madame Masque) body. Later on, Roger Stern used him again after taking over for Kurt.
As for Machine Man, I started reading the original (Kirby) series with #2 (just like I did with Moon Knight-- I guess someone was buying all the #1 issues off the rack before I could get to the grocery store!) Though I think he initially showed up in Kirby's anthology book, "2001: A Space Odyssey" (the series).
It was typical Kirby of that era. As (I think) Joe Quesada (??) said, Machine Man works better as a wondrous robot guy in a "normal" Earth world, rather than as just another super-character in a world full of heroes. That was the way Kirby used him initially, and it was pretty cool.

I've just added a couple of things to the front page of the AA site, including a link to the Newsarama spoiler-laden, Avengers-related cover of Fantastic Four #537, and humorous summaries of New Avengers 13-15 by our own Adrian Watts. (Adrian also contributes an overview of Avengers: United They Stand, the cartoon and comic.) www.avengersassemble.net

I've just spent a couple of hours revamping a bit of the Secret Files section of the site, making the "Articles" and "Reviews" subsections easier to find (they both hold tons of stuff), and making sure the links work. I've spruced some of them up and tried to make sure they're accessible. If you see anything in that section that still doesn't work, please let me know. www.avengersassemble.us/files.html

Adrian Watts has been good enough to write up synopses, complete with a cover gallery, of the first twelve issues of NEW AVENGERS. I've just posted the whole thing to the Secret Files section of the Avengers Assemble! site, and it's also featured on the front page news blurbs area. Thanks, Adrian!

You folks may have noticed the "Google Ads" on the Forum and now on the AA site itself. A quick word about that:
The ads on the forum are beyond my control. The message board owners place them automatically. Not that I find them particularly intrusive.
The ads on the AA site were placed by me, recently, purely in an effort to try to recoup the cost of the Web server space I pay for, for AA, and registering the domain names each year. They're currently bringing in a few cents a day, which, over the course of a year, may be almost enough to pay for those two things. Maybe.
That would be a welcome thing, so I hope folks don't mind putting up with them. (In fact, I think the Google search feature at the bottom is kind of handy, for searching the AA site itself.)

I've been talking with Sean McQuaid and he will be getting some new/updated material to the AA site when he is able. Now that he actually writes for Marvel (contributing to the Handbooks) he has less time, obviously. But we should expect some stuff from him soon. In fact, I just posted his updated Roster on the site tonight.

There have been a number of revisions and updates to the Avengers Assemble! Web site in the past few weeks. They may not be readily apparent, but the main page definitely has some new stuff on it, and some files have been updated or removed. Dead links are being weeded out, too. More to come.

Folks, I've just begun the process of sifting through the pages of the AA.us / AA.net site and either repairing or deleting links. Several of the pages have now had more done to them than others. I did a little cosmetic cleanup as well. More to come!

I mentioned it in a post on the New Avengers thread, but if anyone else wants to see it-- I was asked by the good folks at RevolutionSF.com to write an article reviewing NEW AVENGERS for them. You can read it here: www.revolutionsf.com/article.html?id=2840If you'd care to, give them some feedback on it, so they'll know somebody out there's reading my article! Ha. --Van

Hi, welcome aboard. If you can tell me how to fix that, please do. It says on the admin section that the size of the pictures (icons) can be 100 x 100, but it apparently will only display them at this small size (except for Ultron, who somehow has his displayed larger!) So, sure, tell me what to do to fix that. Thanks.

I'll just save it for the next ASSEMBLED book. ;D
But of course I did vote "8" because she is my second or third-favorite character in all of comics. Maybe that's not a particularly valid reason, but it works for me. hah.

Happy Thanksgiving to those so inclined, folks!
I'm slow-cookin' Southern-style green beans and frying up some fried rice (due to my soujourn in Asia) to accompany the turkey and dressing and so forth. And enjoying a fine Peroni beer. I hope everyone else is having an equally happy day.
Tomorrow I'm heading to Alabama for the big Iron Bowl between my old school (Auburn) and bama. So I'll see you folks after the weekend. Enjoy the holiday.

Shiryu-- when you download the pages from the Web to look at the code, you are pulling both the HTML from that page and the coding from the "includes" pages. So what looks to you like a whole lot of tables and mouseovers and the like, is actually on separate "includes" pages. When the main page loads, it also pulls those "include" pages in and adds their code into the main page's display.
So the actual pages I upload only have the middle stuff, plus a few lines at top and bottom that instruct your browser to also load the "includes" files and then add them to the top and bottom.
So that's why I was leaning toward making a template. It would have the "include" commands at top and bottom, and then an area in the middle for new stuff.
Hope that makes sense.

That might work, Shiryu, and I appreciate your thoughts and efforts. The only drawback I was thinking of, might be that saving stuff as HTML through Word would not generate the "includes" that I use for the site, at top and bottom, for the navigation areas and the like. Those would probably have to be added on to each new page, individually, working in the HTML. That was what I was referring to as being time-consuming (as I've found in the past) and why I'd wish we could figure out some kind of template that already had that on it, so the new stuff could just be plugged into the middle of the page.
We can mess around with it and see what we can come up with!

Folks, Thanks very much for this conversation. It is truly appreciated. The ol' AA! site has gone through a number of incarnations over the 12+ years of its existence; from just one page with some opinions on it (in 1995, on the auburn.edu server, when I was first learning HTML), to a daily-updated AICN-style news/rumor page, to nearly defunct for a while, to its current status as a repository for features and a roughly-weekly-updated news front page. The best thing I've done to the site in years was to set this Board up-- and that's purely because of you folks, and what you've made of it. I just opened the door; you guys and gals started the party. For the future: I would love to have some of you do updates and revisions for the site. That would be wonderful, both for me and for all the Avengers fans worldwide who would benefit. The site has plenty of server space, I think. I have AA! on a Your-site.com server, all by itself, separate from my other two sites (which are on Infinology and GoDaddy; yes, I pay three server bills a year. That's what the trickle of Google ad revenue helps with! Click those stupid ads and help pay for the server space!) The main drawback for me is that I simply do not have a whole lot of time to spend on the site (or this forum, as you have probably noticed), at this time. In addition to my regular job, I'm trying to write Sentinels books and stories, edit together the big hardcover, edit two more books coming from WhiteRocket in the next few months, etc etc... not to forget the work putting together ASSEMBLED! 2.... ACK. So I would not be terribly thrilled to have to convert Word documents to HTML for the AA site. As simple as it might seem, I know from bitter experience how long it can take, and how many roadblocks Word can put in front of you. I could try to do it, especially for certain features and items that really need to be updated or need to be on AA! to begin with. But I couldn't do it constantly. What would be great would be if I could set up a Web page template and contributors could just plug the text in. I use MS FrontPage, but it's all just HTML. (Though I think I have some Includes on the main pages...but we can work around that easily enough.) So... if you are able to work in HTML, let me know and I can send you a template page to plug stuff in for. Then I can upload it to the server and update the links on the appropriate other pages. If you are not able to do that, but could do it in Word (and, honestly, just basic NOTEPAD would probably be preferable to Word, since it doesn't add crazy coding that I might have to strip out), then I could probably work with that, too-- it would just be a slower process. For images.... hrmmm. There are surely some efficient ways to move a number of images over to the site. Alternately, I would not be adverse to linking to someone else's gallery, as we've done that before. Thoughts?(And thanks again for raising this issue, Doom and everyone else!)

I'm sorry I've been so scarce around here lately. Busy stuff going on with work and writing and editing. You probably know what I'm editing, so hopefully all will be forgiven in just a few months when it rolls out!

I cannot stand JR Jr's current style of art. It is definitely "sketchy" as anything, and is such a downer from his earlier work (much of which was mostly Layton, I think now).
It wasn't quite as bad to me on something like ETERNALS, where that style is better suited (in other words, it could take on almost a Kirby aspect). But on Thor, on Spidey, etc, and relative to many other artists' works on those characters, I hated it.
