Yeah--all I know is Barbara Gordon was shot by the Joker and became Oracle, and after that there were (I think ) several new Batgirls--including the one who had the eyes on her mask sewn shut. Why, I have no idea. Remember when there were all those Spidergirls and various Spiderwomen? And now there's a black Spiderman, which, I assume, is supposed to make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I know it must be hard to keep reader interest over years of time, but I almost never like it when characters take other people's identities. It just gets to be a mess. I didn't really mind Hawkeye becoming Goliath, but that was long before the identity changing thing went too far.
I agree about the new animated stuff being really good --EMH seemed to come out of nowhere and I am glad it did!!

I stopped reading DC so I don't have much to say--but it sounds like DC is flailing around, trying to stimulate falling sales. It's kind of sad. My office mate here is a comic fan, and the other day he brought up Batgirl--and it took him five minutes to explain "which" Batgirl he meant. My eyes glazed over.

Yowch! Dang, Starfoxy!
You know, I was going to say I haven't posted a thing about Bendis in forever, mostly because I haven't read anything by him in years. And I don't recall anybody else doing so, either. It's really cheap to say we don't like him because we hate change, when most of our current favorite books are new or semi new (Ultimates, Avengers Academy, etc).
I don't read Bendis because I don't like his work. Why can't you apply the same principle to this forum?

Golden Fisty--reading your post makes me wonder if you actually read these threads. Pretty much everyone here LOVES EMH. I was a huge fan of Millar's original Ultimates--so I have no idea what you're talking about. I happen to love Avengers Academy and Thunderbolts--they are some of the best books Marvel has ever put out. What creators do we want "to come back" exactly? I never read anything like that on this forum.
Yeah there are things we don't like, but last I checked we are allowed to have an opinion. I don't see people attacking each other on this forum--it is usually very civil. We might be mostly old-schoolers, but so what?
Is this a Bendis thing? I think he SUCKS, and if you don't like it, too bad.

Richard is a collector of all kinds of things from space related stuff to ancient proto-bird fossils to art. He really is a very interesting guy. I'd be that interesting if I had millions!

What is in the lower R hand corner is the Sputnik satellite. I think Richard owns one.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Drew I think I'll start him on EMH. Then I'll give him whatever back issues of comics I don't really want anymore and see what he likes. He's an extremely bright kid. I asked him who his favorite villain was, and I swear to God he said "I know it's a cliche, but probably the Joker." By the way--I had to make a 3d scene with Richard Garriott and the kid I'm talking about for our company website. If you want to see it, go here: www.portalarium.com/

Hey Guys I work with a guy who has a son named Dax who is 13 years old, and the he comes by the office every so often--and one day I decided to ask him if he liked super heroes. He didn't--he thought they were "corny." That conversation took place about two months ago. I saw him again the other day, and to my complete surprise, he is now into reading comics! I guess our talk sparked some interest! That being said, the first thing he asked me was which Spider Man was the "real Spider Man?" Apparently he'd been looking at a bunch of old issues and was completely confused by all the alternate versions, alternate Spider Man titles, reboots, and that sort of thing. He was trying to get me to explain where he should start reading, and frankly, I had no idea what to tell him. Even explaining that there were all these variations seemed to confuse him more.
No wonder kids aren't reading comics anymore--it's all a big mess.
PS: Drew--I loved Beavis and Butthead!

I am not familiar enough with DC to know if I'm seeing the most recent costumes--but I saw a pic of Superman with metal knee guards and a collar. Why does Superman need armor?
You know, as an artist, I recall first starting out and thinking that I had to put in everything but the kitchen sink into any drawing or 3D environment. Some of the stupid crap I used to do is embarrassing to me now. But this Superman costume strikes me as the same thing--but my question is why would an Art Director allow this kind of non-nonsensical stuff? Doesn't anybody care anymore?

Yeah I guess that makes sense. I just hope Disney will interrupt their hectic schedule of playing Phineas and Ferb 24/7

I just don't understand why they keep putting off season 2. I am a chronic insomniac and wake up often in the middle of the night, and Disney XD runs the Marvel cartoons in a row in the early morning hrs. They will play EMH, then Iron Man, then the X-Men, and then Silver Surfer (SS is god-awful). EMH is heads and shoulders above any of them IMO but I am biased!

Have the new EMH episodes started yet? Do I dare ask? They were supposed to start this fall and it is now winter. They play Phineas and Ferb every five minutes.

If CA is wearing that costume, I will boycott this movie. Freakin' Adam West's costume in 60's era Batman TV shows looked better than this. Ugh.

That's a good question. I don't know who publishes Conan today, if anybody. Did you know Conan was the only comic John Buscema liked illustrating?

I know. You're right. I went to Austin books for the first time in a looong time, and virtually every Marvel title had a giant marquis screaming "FEAR ITSELF!" And even the back issues had the same giant title! It was like a wall full of the same comic!

Grim indeed. Our beloved industry is dying, guys.
Word on the streets is that comic book companies are only still publishing in hopes that some creator will come up with a stellar storyline that they can make into a movie. Also--sales of super hero statues help, too.

Hey Guys. I started working for a new company a couple of weeks ago, and the 13 YO son of a co-worker showed up at the office the other day, so I picked his brain regarding how kids his age viewed super heroes like Captain America. I wasn't surprised to learn that he and his friends liked the live movies, but found the actual characters "corny." I asked if he ever bought any comics and he looked at me like I was crazy--he said he and his friends only ever bought Manga books. He never watches super hero cartoons. Just thought I'd pass this on.

HB--wasn't there a "Danger Room" sequence in one of the X-Men movies, where they fought Sentinels? I mean it wasn't really the Sentinels--but at least we got a glimpse. Maybe I just dreamed that...
One way or the other--a story surrounding them would be great (hopefully). Remember way back in the early 70's, when the Avengers fought the Sentinels? They almost lost!! When I read those issues as a kid, I didn't know who these giant robots were--but it was clear they were way different, and way scarier, than the typical and often-used generic giant robots that popped up routinely in Marvel comics during that period.

I didn't want to say it, but yeah that Conan trailer isn't exactly making me stampede towards the theater! I'm not hearing anybody talking about it--it's almost like everybody senses it's not going to stack up against the original. I probably won't go see it.
Yeah it's been nearly 50 days straight of temps over 100 degrees (and before that it was high 90's since April). It's the worst drought in Texas history. I can't believe half the country has been flooded for months, but those of us in central Texas aren't getting a frikkin' drop. I mean that literally.
Anyway--You know what I'd like to see in a Marvel movie? SENTINELS! I'd love to see the X-Men or Avengers tackle the sentinels in a movie! There was a time when they were amongst the most feared adversaries of any Marvel super team--and I think visually, they'd be really impressive on the Big Screen. If we can afford to make a Tranformers movie, we can make sentinels!!!

I still haven't seen it, HB--but both Austin newspapers gave it very luke-warm reviews. My friends who have seen it have mostly liked it, but nobody was overwhelmed by it either.
Yeah I'm having trouble generating enthusiasm over super hero films right now just because there are so many out. Now Conan is set for release. It just seems weird that there are more super hero movies out in one summer than in (practically) the whole rest of movie history. For forty years you basically had either Batman or Superman, with a few grade Z heroes along the way.
I am going to see The Decemberists tomorrow at an outdoor venue and it is going to be 107. degrees. Yay.
