Careful, Doom -- some chicken-liver poster will get you back to single-digits before you can blink...

That's what happens when you take the Surfer's board, Doom. Your karmic powers go up the roof

Since karma basically means nothing, I say everyone should get a random number ala Doom.

Good Lordy, stay in bed for a few weeks and the world turns upside down.
To quote my favorite movie Doom past a hundred is "Dogs and cats, living together,.... mass hysteria!"

can I have all my karma taken away? maybe make me minus a million? just to completely signify the silliness of this all?

It's here, we have it, we've lived with it. Is it overall truly meaningful in the scheme of life? Heck, no. But Rex, there should be a little satisfaction in knowing that there have been 33 times during your membership here that you've either said something profound, brought a smile across someone's lips, or made a contribution to a discussion that another poster found noteworthy. Don't diminish Doom's point that someone took a cheap shot at him because he may have given an opinion to the contrary in some discussion. Did Doom's sun come up the next day? Certainly. But that's really not the point here.

I'm just saying I take more pleasure in getting a good response from someone than seeing a karma counter. And I don't care about a karma counter, and to prove it, I'd be happy to have none at all. Or a hugely negative one because it's so irrelevant...

Under ordinary circumstances, karma doesn't matter. But since I now have more than all of you (put together! ) it now means everything. Doom Uber Alles!

So you just go and delete your account?? I'm really not sure what happened, Rex, but in no way did I intend for you to take your ball and go home.
I for one have enjoyed your input immensely over the past many months. I hope you'll reconsider and come back.

If Rex is not enjoying the board anymore, I suppose he’s right to depart. Still, I am surprised and dismayed; for his contributions have done much to make the board enjoyable. At the risk of sounding selfish, I hope conditions will soon be right for his return, a happy return for both him and us.
In any case, godspeed, Rex!

It looks like he is gone... even if he register again, it will have to be with a different nick, starting from 0 posts etc. I don't get the reason for this ? was it just because he didn't like the karma system ?

This is something I've wanted to get off my chest on this subject.
One of the things we run into here in computer land is very smart people with very limited social skills. I'm not saying all or most but some people are like this.
On boards of all kinds they tend to be more vocal than most. They can say what they wish when they wouldn;t in person, this is a good thing,... except
Occasionally these are the folks who take things like the karma system too seriously. They get mad when they smite someone and someone else brings them back up.
Sometimes they even take there little yellow dumptruck and go home.
I'm not saying this is the case here. It's just a thought I has on the subject.
Another thought is this. If people having a good time upsets some folks to that level, isn't a friendly board like this better off without them?

Yep, Van preeceded me on this. After a lot of research (including a talk with someone from the ProBoards staff), we found out there is a log, accessible to the main administrator, showing each and every smite done in the history of the forum. Both me and Van are happy to put a stone on the past and not do anything for the top / stealth smiters as long as it doesn't repeat. This doesn't mean that smiting is forbidden, but it should be an occasional thing, and most importantly the smiter should explain the reasons for it to the smitten, either in PM or within the post. If multiple/secret smiting continues, we will have to either disable the karma system and / or take steps towards the smiter, and both me and Van would much rather not do either thing. Thanks for the post. Hi guys, Im a newbie. Nice to join this forum. __________________ Watch Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole Online Free

Write, write, write; post, post, post. Yup-- be a voice! That was a neat older thread you chimed in on-- I imagine it was a trip down memory lane for some of the older (before my time) members here. Although perhaps a bit bittersweet-- all that drama about the karma system! Golly, I wonder where some of those stalwarts are now. . . do they still lurk, y'suppose? But-- now's your chance, Kath! Sorry to curb the enthusiasm, but, as it has been pointed out to me, it seems that kathleenp980 is some sort of bot posting the same message in hundreds of forum across the web, possibly to advertise the link in the signature. I'll give it a couple of days to see if it turns out to be a real member wishing to join, otherwise I'll delete the account.

Oh man, REALLY?? Daggone it. Probably should have been suspicious of the fact that she picked such an old thread to chime in on. I was nurturing a theory that she was a quietly-returning imperiousrex, who apparently- and inexplicably- dropped out of the board via that thread. Rats- HB

An aside note....
I dislike the whole Exalt/Smite system. I have seen it many other sites...it promotes nothing but an inside 'clique'. It is not relevant nor accurate as to any given poster's worth.

'Nuff Said! Oh, I dunno, pym. I was kind of enamored of it even back when I was a New Avenger a couple/three years ago. Personally, I don't think I've ever smitten (hmm-- smited? Smote? Smooten?) anyone, and I've never noticed if it does in fact happen much at all. I certainly think a case could be made for dropping that particular negative function on this board-- but I like being able to toss a metaphorical thumbs-up to someone when they fill me w/ a bit of inspiration. And I kinda like the clandestine nature of it, as well (on the positive side, mind you). They come and go in waves, maybe, but I've rarely perceived it as a clique. Heck, there are some solid heated discussions in play right now between folks who don't seem to share much more than their respectable karma-counts, as it were. And look at poor ol' Doc Bong--- the guy's been a member in one fashion or another since, like, 1912-- but his Karma's only, like, 2 or 3 or something (re-setting issues, I believe?), and heck, I regard him as practically an institution--! (. . . Or was it that he should be in an institution? Oh, the semantics are difficult. . . very difficult. . . ;D ;D ;D ) (Heh-- yer the man, Doc! ) HB

Your words are wise, kind sir.
I have witnessed many sites where it was mis-used.
I forget that I am in the company of gentleman here ( a rare occurence )...at a site where I should expect nothing less.....my sincere apologies.
Be well!
