Just so everyone is clear on this, I have access to the log that shows who is "smiting" and who is "exalting" whom, and when they're doing it, etc.
I don't want to disable the entire feature if I don't have to. So don't make me have to.
If things have cleared up in the past few days (while I've been away), then great. If not, just know that I'm monitoring the situation, and I can see you, and I can decide whether to remove the whole Karma system or just one or two excessively active smiters. (shakes finger)
Yep, Van preeceded me on this. After a lot of research (including a talk with someone from the ProBoards staff), we found out there is a log, accessible to the main administrator, showing each and every smite done in the history of the forum.
Both me and Van are happy to put a stone on the past and not do anything for the top / stealth smiters as long as it doesn't repeat. This doesn't mean that smiting is forbidden, but it should be an occasional thing, and most importantly the smiter should explain the reasons for it to the smitten, either in PM or within the post. If multiple/secret smiting continues, we will have to either disable the karma system and / or take steps towards the smiter, and both me and Van would much rather not do either thing.
While I consider this Karma War that took place on this boards kinda childish, I would rather keep the Karma system too, if used without malice it could be an interesting game and even help grow the feeling of a community here, like fellow posters like Bored Yersterday already said on other threads on this subject. But is it really necessary to PM or post the reasons to exalt/smite someone? That would ruin the very reason of the Karma system. And I´m not asking that because I want to be a stealth or secret smiter, Shiryu and Van now can tell exactly who those are .
Feel free to start writing the cheques, Dlw. Starting bid is 250$ / name ;D
Bored, I see what you mean but overall smiting is taken quite seriously and almost everyone was unhappy at being it from nowhere, or not knowing why exactly. A bit of clarity from now on will definitely help PS, goes without saying that smiting someone "because he did it to me too" is not a good reason for smiting ^^
Just so everyone is clear on this, I have access to the log that shows who is "smiting" and who is "exalting" whom, and when they're doing it, etc. Okay, carry on!
I saw a 60's marvel cartoOn episode of THOR. Odin mentioned 'smiting'. That is punishment where the accused person must fight a whole group of opponents, I assume until he is beaten, thus punished....However, in THOR's case, he beat up the entire group thus ending his ordeal quite differently.
I thought I'd only stepped UP the argument lately?
Nevertheless yeah, I'm pretty sure this is indeed an apocalyptic sign. Perhaps it indicates a steadily growing, secret seed of marvel love within you all which just needs to be nourished?
No worries though, the next apocalyptic sign of Ragnarok is RedStateCap nominating Bendis for Editor in Chief of Marvel while calling the death of Cap and the Resurrection of Bucky the two most brilliant moves in cap historyu and new Avengers a peak of Avengers history. Oh, and declaring Ronin his favourite character.
For whatever reason, Doom is getting smited today (smote? smitten?).
Anyway, Van and Shiryu -- I'd like you to use your powers of revelation and send a PM to whoever is goofing around and tell them it's not appreciated. I do not read many sections of the board, so I don't know if Doom's being more abrasive than usual (but that's what makes him kind of cuddly, isn't it?? ). Still, we've discussed how these types of issues/arguments should be handled.
