Pending moderator approval, naturally. But if granted, then that certainly seems the best way to go. And you'll be able to gauge activity on that one thread (visits, readings, etc) to see if it is indeed worthwhile to continue, and us sensitive types can just avoid the thread, if we so please. NOW, Al-- you should enter into discourse w/ the bunch of us! Heck, you probably have unique insights into art-related matters, both historical & modern. HB

If Bowen and Koto slow down a bit with all the new stuff, I'd love to talk to you guys! By the way, I need to find a BIG image of that poster featuring all the images of Wasp's various costumes. Dick Ayers supplies the header art. Can someone help? Reason I ask is that Randy Bowen started this thread... www.statuemarvels.com/f87/marvel-wasp-bowen-statue-6496.htmlI prefer the red & blue Wasp (without the head gear) and the Blue & White Perez! I also have a lingering attachment to that HOT purple outfit from the late 70s!!!

Wow, I think Jan's costumes probably have a thread all their own around here somewhere. . . Possibly their own heading. . . ! Although it's probably not a big help, I do recall Bobster's microheroes site had pretty much EVERY iteration she's gone through (it was most impressive-- a veritable swarm of Wasps, as it were. Heh.).
I've always been fond of the red & gold outfit she sported (w/ a few variations) circa Avengers 50-ish through 70-ish (rough guess). Simple, practical, looked like a "uniform", but was still eye-catching and quite cute on her. Liked her hair then, too.
Two that are RIGHT OUT: That horrendous white one-leg/one-sleeve dealy, and the (purple & green?) suit with the "W"-shaped, off-center collar. Think that one went with the "curled hair bunched up on top/clipper-cut on the sides" do. Ugh.
[Note: I have never in my life spoken about fashion or hairstyles. Never. Until this moment, I've never even realized I'd noticed these things. This is frightening to no small degree. . . ]

That horrendous white one-leg/one-sleeve dealy You know what's kinda sad? That's one of my more memorable Wasp outfits, lol. I kinda prefered that one to the full black suit with little bits of Gold they had her in for the last few years.

I agree; the red-and-blue Hank/Goliath is very cool! By the way, I need to find a BIG image of that poster featuring all the images of Wasp's various costumes. Dick Ayers supplies the header art. Can someone help? Al: what a fantastic poster! I've never seen it before and I can't find it anywhere online (except on your site). Where did you originally find it? And as I'm sure you know, Perez did a glorious illustration/poster of the Avengers that includes many images of the Wasp in her various uniforms...but it's really great to see a compilation of the Wasp's costumes by various artists! I did notice that the poster doesn't include her attire when she made her triumphant return to the pages of the Avengers (#26-28) in a red bathing suit--yeah, yeah, I know it wasn't a superhero costume per se, but hey, it was probably better suited (ohh, bad pun!) for fighting baddies than the bikini she wore throughout most of #51. ;D From #26's cover:

Simple, practical, looked like a "uniform", but was still eye-catching and quite cute on her. Jan first wore this new costume in #45, which coincidentally was the first Avengers comic I ever read. So the yellow and red sequinned costume with the golden side panels is my favorite look, too, since it was my introduction to the Wasp. The costume was glitzy, it bespoke wealth, it was ostentatious--I got Jan's character right away from this sequence. (Later on when I began to collect back issues I saw what a departure it was from her usual red and black-based costumes...though Jan--i.e., the Marvel colorists--kept the red.) And it reminds me that back when I first read #45, I was also struck by how Wanda looked in this panel (below)--she seemed to me to be jealous of Jan's flirting with Hercules--Wanda looks as peeved as Hank! As mentioned, this was my first Avengers issue, so I knew nothing about Wanda and Herc's attraction (as seen in Avengers Annual #1 and a couple of other issues back then), and there was no mention of their attraction in #45's story...but boy, Don Heck sure managed to convey a lot of drama in this one little panel! Now that was storytelling, folks!

Thanks...I was really asking where you found the image (what site), and not how, but no matter: mere moments after I'd posted my question, I assiduously continued my search--and I found it online! And now that I've had the chance to inspect the image at closer range, I see that the Wasp's red bathing suit from #26 is indeed included! And they used the very same image I posted above (great minds think alike and all that jazz ;D...)
Also, from what I can piece together, this montage appeared in Secret Invasion: Requiem #1 (I haven't read SI:R).

Clearly, you & I are similarly-aged Boomers, as Avengers #'s 57 & 58 were my first issues as I entered seriously into being a comic book fan. And, as with you, that became Jan's "default" outfit in my mind. Man, the first time I saw that pointy headgear from the earlier years, I couldn't believe that someone actually thought that was even remotely a good look. A pointy head?? One has to wonder if the men that designed the women's costumes ever asked their wives' advice on what they were clothing these ladies in. Oh! Al, I checked out that Wasp thread you mentioned. . . and I can't believe how popular the white one-leg/one-arm "W" on the collar outfit is!! Granted, that illustration that's being used is particularly fetching, but STILL-- it's awful! Good Night Irene! And I loved that montage as well. Did either of you notice whether or not it's an actual, available poster? HB

Is the body-suit indeed supposed to be sequined? Somehow, I never took it as such, but that does make sense. I'd always assumed it was a textured fabric.
****This is terrifying! Why am I suddenly becoming aware of having been aware of these details?? Aagh!!****

And I loved that montage as well. Did either of you notice whether or not it's an actual, available poster? Unfortunately I didn't come across any indication that it's available as a poster, HB; all I saw could glean was that it was part of a tribute section to Jan that was included in last year's Secret Invasion: Requiem #1. The costumes montage comprised three pages (I'd guess it was a fold-out--again, I haven't actually seen the comic itself). And apparently one of the authors/editors of the tribute section was Sean McQuaid, who has some articles here at AA! and used to post here (before my time, alas...), among other comic book-related accomplishments. Way to go, Sean! If this is available as a stand alone poster, I'd love to have it!

Is the body-suit indeed supposed to be sequined? Somehow, I never took it as such, but that does make sense. I'd always assumed it was a textured fabric. Yep, that's what those little specks are supposed to indicate (sequins). Jan mentions it in the very next issue (#46), when she and Hank are battling some ants. She's back to wearing her usual red and black costume and she tells Hank she left her wasp's stings (her supply of compressed air pellets, I assume) in her new "sequinned costume." It was interesting to me back then that she had this glitzy new costume in #45 but then went right back to wearing her old red and black costume in #46! In hindsight I see it was probably due to two different artists doing the issues (Heck did #45, Buscema #46, so perhaps JB didn't know she'd changed her costume in #45) but I thought it was fascinating--I mean, over at DC no one switched costumes like this! Then in #47 she was in a couple of panels in civilian clothes; in #48 she wore an fuchsia evening gown and when she shrunk down she had basically a bathing suit type of fuchsia costume; in #49 she wore something like #45 but sans the side panels and sequins and it was colored pale blue/pale orange (not colors normally associated with Jan at the time). I always wondered if this was really JB's initial, somewhat sketchy attempt at #45's costume--but miscolored by the colorist. She donned the yellow and red again for a few panels in #51 (though she spent most of that issue clad only in a bikini) and the yellow and red returned in #53 (Buscema drew it beautifully), but she wore a plaid halter-top-miniskirt in #54-#55. In #56 she returned to the yellow and red costume and then it became her more-or-less "go to" costume for the rest of the Silver Age, though she also sported plenty of other ensembles back then as well...remember that silly "Mrs. Santa Claus" outfit she wore in #58? Or the short teal toga/thigh high boots in #68? EDIT: couldn't resist, had to add this additional costume worn by Jan--from a favorite issue of What If? ;D

Wow--is Bowen a sculptor or a company? Whoever did the Yellowjacket figurine is really, really good with human anatomy (not that the others aren't great as well--love the Ant-Man statue too)
