Have the Avengers ever battled the Sentinels? (I'm not privy to many of these Avengers issues)
My understanding is that Sentinels were giant robots sent to battle/capture X-men.
If not, I think it would've been a cool idea anyway... ;D

During Onslaught the Dark Beast sent some reprogrammed sentinels out and the Avengers faced them. I don't know if this is the only time, but it is an instance.
Also the Senitinels for O.N.E are produced by Stark.

Yeah they did. Around issue 104 or so. The sentinels had just returned from being in outer space. Then they set up a base in Australia with the master plan of killing pretty much everybody on Earth, somehow or other. A sentinel grabbed Scarlet Witch and hauled her off to Australia. The Avengers went after them. Quicksilver too, but due to a series of comic bookish events, the other Avengers didn't know Quicksilver was there, and he ended up getting buried and lost to the team.
There was a really awesome scene where Quicksilver was taking on 2 or 3 sentinels single handedly. I also liked seeing Thor fight them.

Yeah they did. Around issue 104 or so... Wow..Thanks for the input Dudes. Perhaps I ought to buy the Avengers comic archieve on CD so I can check it out. Also STARK industries made some? Thats a shock to me. Sounds like a conflict of interest being Tony Stark is a MEMBER of the Avengers, --- I suppose it's a form of 'job security' wink wink, nudge nudge...beware the military industrial complex warned Ike. ...Think I need to do research on back issues.

The Avengers also battled the Sentinels in one of the issues of Busiek’s “Kang War” storyline, specifically vol. 3 #49. I’ve previously posted an excerpt from the script, which differs in some details from the final product.

Kind of. Apparently he was partially behind their construction in first place, so he had a fail safe to make sure he could always take over their programming.

It would appear to have different members, (no Iron man, nor Thor character seen, at least on the cover..) I guess members came & went in the Avengers...But perhaps an interesting battle, just the same.

Thor was definitely battling the Sentinels in that issue, together with Wonder Man at least. However, it was a "'nuff said" issue, meaning only art with no dialogues (they had a month with all issues like this). It's a nice battle nevertheless, and that is considered one of the best 'nuff said issues of that month, but be aware of it if you are thinking of getting hold of a copy.

The Wasp & Firebird participated on that battle as well...

I happened to be rereading those issues when you made the comment regarding Thor & Wonder Man and the battle against the sentinels... Thor opened a portal (presumably to Avengers Mansion), taking Firebird with him; next thing we see, both of them appear in Washington D.C. with the Wasp, so no doubt they stopped briefly to collect her. Wonder Man got there later flying under his own power. Actually, the Wasp managed to destroy one sentinel by getting inside its head & blowing stuff up inside with her wasp stings...

That's P.O.R.N.S.!
And for the record, I loved the Nuff Said issue, the power of it... as I've said previously, the Kang War is among my favourite Avengers story arcs ever.

I agree with you when it comes to Busiek, Doom... The art, however, is quite another matter for me... It took a little bit of pleasure away from my reading experience, as I thought the team of Kieron Dwyer & Rick Remender did a terrible job there...
