OK this run is chock full of good stuff.
1st The growing android of Kang. I've always liked that guy, you hit him he grows. That's just fun.
2nd- One of the first time we see a large contingent of Avengers in a non-annual issue. Featured are: Cap Black Panther Iron Man Thor Yellow Jacket Wasp Goliath Vision
3rd- the development of the Kang/comatose Ramona issues. Ramona's revival was always a great motivator for Kang to go after the Avengers.
4th- the Grandmaster
5th- the Justice Leag,... I mean the squadron Sinister. I always loved Marvel's little dig at DC. Then they actually turned into a viable team.
6th I think this is the first time where we see Vision go semi-solid inside of someone. Always liked it when he did that.
7th- they fianlly stop playing around and make the Black Knight an Avenger.
So, with all these things in play I have to give this particular run
10 Loonies out of 10

I don't know why I haven't commented on this before now -- just too much, I guess. This was a REALLY GREAT 3-issue story. The tiny Kang-bot that got bigger and bigger really is so cool -- and watching it tromp around Buscema's New York was thrilling. Then the next issue gave us the Squadron's first appearance. First? Is that correct? Then we got the first appearance of the Invaders. Was this also the first appearance of the Grandmaster? Yes it was (thank you google and wikipedia).
The only thing I didn't like was how the team was split up in 70 and 71, but that's alright I suppose. This was a lot like a trial run of the first Contest of Champions. And I love how Kang wins, but his hatred for the Avengers forces him to choose the power of death instead of life or something like that, right? And he decides to destroy the Avengers instead of saving Ravonna right off the bat. And his hatred and vengefulness is his downfall, even though he had won the Grandmaster's game. THAT's what makes this such a great classic story.
And a funny thing about it, looking at the covers, there's no way to tell they're part of the same storyline.

My favorite part of this arc was the way Thomas brought in the original Human Torch and 40s Namor and Cap.
I'm going through these old yarns for the first time, and this is certainly a high point.

Even though I hate time travel stories, I LOVE Kang. He was deep, even back before supervillains had depth. Throw in the Squadron Sinister, and that is just whipped cream and a cherry on my hot fudge sundae. Plus the cover of #71 is one of my all time favorites.
