One thing I loved about this saga was that it had great THOR-Firebird moments. I would love to see these two continue interacting in the future.
Rereading it last night (Volume 3's #41 to 55) as well as #56 (Kurt's last), I realized that it was the last really good Classic Avengers story that I read. I never enjoyed another issue of the (classic) Avengers again. Not as much as Kurt's run. His run was pure magic for me. Every issue from #1 to 56 was a gift and I never thought I would enjoy reading the Avengers so much. I believe the key to his success was having a genuine love and respect for the original stories. He went on to introduce his own ideas and members but he never once ignored the book's history with needless retcon. The only ones he did in Avengers Forever worked because he was clearing earlier messes.
While I do like the New Avengers and don't want to see it scrapped to make way for the old style again, I would love to see a separate Avengers book written by Busiek.
I don't think Kurt comes by thesse boards anymore does he ? Anyway, if he does I would like to thank him for given 5 great years for such a excellent assemblage of characters.
Just thought I would share my thoughts. Tonight, I am pulling out the final issues of Volume 3 (the disassembled arc).

One thing I loved about this saga was that it had great THOR-Firebird moments. I would love to see these two continue interacting in the future. I liked the Thor–Firebird relationship also. Indeed, those scenes were the first in which I felt Firebird had really and truly taken her place among the Avengers. Although I enjoyed her initial interactions with the West Coast team, she was nevertheless still the outsider; in later appearances, she was acknowledged as an official Avenger but never really fit in. Busiek made her fit in, and I hope to see that thread continued someday.

Great arch. The pacing was a little uneven at times, but still, a fantastic end to Busiek's "Avengers" run.

Oh, somehow I had missed this topic. Yep, I loved that Kang's arch. May be it was a bit too long, but I read the issues in rapid sequence and enjoyed every one of them. The Avengers were really defeated and on their knees, but still managed to get up again, counter attack and finally win, despite Kang's superior technology. The only complaint is that the art was a bit inconsistent from issue to issue.
