The Elf Queen was mentioned in another thread by another poster. That got me thinking about what a tough villain she was, and how she hasn't returned to face the Avengers since then (unless it was in Volume III and I misse it).
This got me thinking that there really are a handful of cool Avengers villains that should be revived.
The Elf Queen, Inferno (issue 192-193), Pyron (issue 203), ... but my favorite is the Shadow Lord from issues 207 and 208. He was a real tough dude, and has a lot of potential as a recurring adversary. I think he was defeated by sending him back to his own dimension or something like that -- so he ought to be able to return.
What villains who fought the Avengers only once would you like to see return as a potential arch-nemesis on par with Kang and Ultron?

They are a bunch of wierd villains who formed a group to fight the Avengers, and ended up fighting each other more. Perez and Busiek created them. I like my villains nice and bitchy

Interesting question. To have never returned at all, or never in Avengers?
Hmm. I know! Tetrarchs of Entropy!!!
No wait, sorry. I got confused and accidentally cast my vote for dumbest Avengers villain ever.
How about Proctor and the Gatherers? After their storyline was finishd, nothing. You could have a new Proctor from different alternate universe start gathering again and launching a new set of attacks on the Avengers.

I'm hard fought between Elfqueen and the Exemplars... In the end I say Elfqueen because she hasn't been seen for over 300 issues, but I'd also like to see the Exemplars again, possibly withouth Bedlam (Conquest made an apperance in JLA/Avengers #4).

I'd go for Inferno. He had an interesting background (that is, he didn't seem like the sort of person who would be transformed into a rampaging monster, and the Thor connection with his origin was interesting), and fought the whole team to a standstill. He would also be really easy to bring back. My only real problem with him was that, as far as I can remember, at no point was he actually given the name "Inferno"- the covers and captions called him that, but I don't recall anyone in the story using the name.

I'd like to see The Gatherers again because I don't think we were ever told who all of the Gatherers were supposed to be. If anyone out there does know, please clue me in.

I would also like to see again the Zodiac that appeared at the end of Johnns first arc (volume 3). Scorpio alone seemed to be quite dangerous, and together they would have been an interesting menace.

I forgot about the Zodiac. They would work well with this team.
