When I was a toddler, I was certain that Captain America, Hawkeye, and the Vision were all brothers. Why? Well, Captain America and Hawkeye both had blonde hair under their masks, both had letters on their head, and both were "normal" guys who used weapons. The Vision? The diamond on his chest looked like Cap's stars without the points, and the yellow part of his costume just above his trunks, covering his stomach, looked like a yellow version of the red and white stripes in the same place on Cap's uniform. Therefore, he was Captain America's other brother.
Anyone else got any funny Avengers misconceptions they'd like to share?

When I was 9 and read AVENGERS for the first time, I figured the "A" on Cap's head stood for "Avengers." :-)
I also figured he must have a sword, and just not be carrying it around during that issue. Because why just have a shield and not a sword, too, my 9-yr old mind asked.
I also figured Iron Man really was an "iron" man.
I also wondered what the point was of having Yellowjacket and the Wasp on the team, since their contribution each issue seemed to consist of flying around the head of the uber-villain of the month, zapping at them ("Hey, cut it out, that sort of stings!") and causing the villain to swat at them. (Look at any issue from around 1977, and you see that same panel! Ha!)

I don't know if this is a misconception or not, but I can remember my shock as a 7 or 8-year old kid when I saw the scene in Avengers #139 or #140 where the Vision and the Scarlet Witch are on their honeymoon and the Vision is walking on the beach in a swimsuit and his whole body is red!! That just never occurred to me!

When I first started reading comics, for a VERY brief time, I thought Iron Man and the Silver Surfer were the same character and that the colorist hadn't colored Iron Man correctly! Hey, I was young and they were both shiny...what can I say?

Well, this probably doesn't count as an Avengers misconception, but before I could read, I referred to the Flash, Martian Manhunter, and the Atom as :
The Red Boob, the Green Boob, and the Red-and-Blue Boob -- based on the shape of their bald/cowled heads.
Didn't know how to read yet, so that was my best guess.

I was convinced for a while that since Vision was definitely a robot, Scarlet Witch must also be a robot since a robot and a human can't marry!
