The Avengers don't seem to have as many iconic villains as you might think after 42 years of continuity. Who do you get excited about when you think of a storyline (past or potential)?
1. Kang 2. Masters of Evil 3. Grim Reaper 4. Squadron Sinister/Supreme 5. Zodiac

Not in order: 1. Kang 2. Masters of Evil (Moonstone... rowr!) 3. The Squadrons Sinister and Supreme 4. The US government 5. Ultron, as long as his menaces are not too frequent - Adrian

What about The Kree?
Sons of the Serpent (Is that the racist group I am thinking of)?
Former members turning on them: quicksliver, Scarlet Witch, The Swordsman
Captain Paramedic

I left out the Collector in my original list. Anyone get all giddy for him? Nah, me neither...
The FF have Galactus, Dr. Doom, Annihilus, Blastaar, the Frightful Four, the Sub-Mariner, and on and on. The X-Men have Magneto, the Brotherhood, Sauron, the Hellfire Club, the Brood, Juggernaut and Black Tom, and on and on. We've got Kang (I could file the "Crosstime Kangs" storyline under "Dumb Things"), and that's about it. I liked him in the Wild West storyline that ran concurrently with the Serpent Crown in issues 141-149.
The Collector's first appearance in issue 28 was good, and even the Halloween story in issue 119 was fun. But he was at the top of his game to kick off the Korvac saga...

Many apologies for leaving Ultron off of my original list (kind of like when you have to thank people -- you always leave someone important off your list!).
Maybe Henry Gyrich should be on the list? He sure started out as a major pain in the Avengers' butts. A guy that has control over gov't clearance is a pretty powerful man.
Grandmaster always came up with intersting schemes.
Hulk? That first arc in Ultimates was very good.
Atlanteans -- loved the arc with Attuma around the mid-150's.

I was always passionate about the Squadron Sinister. I'd love to see them revamped and a brought back as an all-new and even deadlier team.

Exactly because i'm passionate about the Squadron Sinister, i'd like them not 'Revamped' and 'All-New'. ;D That's kinda like saying, "Uau, i really love my wife - Can you maker her look like Rebecca Romijn?" (And btw, Marvel's makeovers usually end up in Janet Reno.)

How old and out of touch am I that I don't know who Rebecca Romijn is?
Anyway, the Avengers have plenty of villains to choose from:
Ultron, Kang, Grim Reaper, Squadron Sinister, Squadron Supreme (sort of), Masters of Evil, Collector (and Grand Master), Magneto (who has appeared in almost as many issues/arcs as Ultron) Sons of the Serpent Zodiac Nefaria Graviton...
the Avengers have plenty of villains, but what i'd like to see (Van, since you are writing the Avengers in fanfic again), is an Anti-Avengers. Maybe Loki (another iconic villain) gathering a group for an anniversary issue- and he being the father of Hel (Hela) could even pull a few out of Death's Realm. For instance...
Red Guardian I (for Cap) Executioner, Ulik or Hulk (for Thor) A Crimson Dynamo (for Iron man) Swordsman (for Hawkeye) Enchantress (for Scarlet Witch) Whirlwind (for Quicksilver) etc...
Any other interest in an Anti-Avengers?

An Anti-avengers team would be cool except it should be a team of less powerful villians. Here's who i would have on my team.
Taskmaster-leader Living Laser Whirlwind Grey Gargoyle Klaw Shockwave Absorbing MAn
Weird group but i think it would be awesome.

I kind of like that line-up. Anyone else want to offer an all-time Masters of Evil line-up? It can include any Avengers villain from any era, whether they were ever in the Masters or not.
7 baddies, to correspond to the typical Avengers line-up of 7 heroes:
Whirlwind Power Man Swordsman Mandarin, leader Executioner Tiger Shark Super Adaptoid

Love the Taskmaster. Totally want him serving as the "anti-Cap" of a new villainous team to menace the Avengers. But my favorite villains are mostly "lame." I know it. Can't help it.
That said, I'd like to see this "Anti-Avengers" team, with counterparts to the classic Avengers, hanging out at the eeeeevil Mansion of Eeeevil:
Taskmaster (Chairman, in Cap's role) the old Moonstone (in the Scarlet Witch's role) Machinesmith or a new Adaptoid (in the Vision role??) Klaw (in the Wonder Man role-- made of energy--sorta) Stilt-Man (in the Iron Man role) the evil Whizzer/Speed Demon of pre-Tbolts days (Quicksilver) ... ??

All the above, but add the Gatherers. They are the perfect anti-Avengers, because they are alternate reality versions ofthe Avengers. Too bad half their members ended up joining the Avengers (Vision's body, Magdelene, and Swordsman). Also add Zemo before he turned into a Thunderbolt. Also add the Space Phantom(s). That's a tough opponent.
I agree with Kang, Magneto, Zodiac, Loki, the Kree, and Nefaria.
