By reading around it seems obvious that these are the two artists that made the Avengers' history (not forgetting Jack Kirby of course) and the two favs by almost anyone. Overall, who did you like most on the Earth's Mightiest ?

Wow. What a choice! Wouldn't it be great if all comics were decided on such high ground?? No fill-ins, no artists whose styles don't fit the characters... John Buscema, from the time I was but a wee waif, has always been my favorite comics artist. Possessing a style that is not only dynamic but anatomically correct to the nth degree, Buscema was a consumate professional. Taking on any and all assignments, he helped to shape the look of many characters at Marvel in the period that bridged the Silver and Bronze ages. When I think of the Avengers, I see John's work. Thor, Conan, the FF -- all John's pictures appear in my head. Taking nothing away from Perez, who if John is my #1 George is my #1a, it is Buscema's work that I simply like to look at. That being said, let me make a concession: if I am thinking DC, then I'm probably seeing George's work. While George had some great (fantastic) runs on Avengers, FF, et al. it is his work on the Titans and Crisis, History of the DC Universe and Wonder Woman, that made the 1980's his at DC. Shiryu, you have me spinning in circles with this question!!!!

Eh eh, it was actually one of your posts that made me think about this poll I think you defined it very well saying once that Perez art is overall nicer, but Buscema draws more expressive faces (I think you were referring to FF though)

So…Buscema vs. Pérez…who would win in a fight? ;D
Pérez would have strength in numbers, for he would draw many more characters per panel than Buscema could muster! On the other hand, Buscema’s characters would crackle with raw, sinewy power; and their intense facial expressions would give Pérez’s army pause! Then again, we must not forget that Pérez is a master of the whip! Whatever its outcome, this breathtaking battle would surely be a titanic tussle betwixt titans!

Oh, wait ! I didn't vote yet ! I go for Perez, I think his faces look overall nicer (albeit a bit less expressive) and I like very crouded panels, so my hand goes to him

Big John Buscema every day. Perez is the undisputed master of fitting a lot into a panel, but Buscema is the superior story-teller.

So now we have Buscema 3 Perez 2 as I´m without hesitation choosing Buscema.
For me Big John simply is the blueprint - that´s the way I´d like all comic art to be! Thankfully there are still artists around who draw in his style, (of course) often modernized but always true to his high standards.

My vote is for George. I just like his style better than John's

JB all the way. I grew to like Perez--and he definately has a highly developed sense of style. But John B is the master IMO.

Both great artists. Perez's style seems to be a little more polished while Buscema has an uncanny sense of dimension. If you've every seen "how to draw comics the marvel way" it shows Johns grasp of proportion and perspective. I'd give my left leg to draw like either one of them. Can't decide, I'd vote for both of them.
