Hello all.
I guess first and foremost, I owe a lot of you an apology. I know sometimes I tend to get riled up when you guys get all anti-modern era comics, but there's no excuse for some of my posts in the past.
The fact of the matter is I get riled up about post-Disassembled so easily because it's something I like. The Bendis hate gets hard to digest in such large quantities. It would be like me saying that Roger Stern needed a lobotomy because his stories were asinine or Roy Thomas was a boozer. Sometimes I have a problem discriminating someone's tastes from that. I guess to me, it's always been that if someone calls something stupid then that person automatically assumes that if someone is enjoying it, then they themselves are stupid.
But that being said . . .
I do have a better understanding as to how you guys feel. As many of you know, I've been an X-Men fan for many years. Unfortunately, the quality of X-Men has gotten rather poor over the past year . . . to the point where I've been considering giving up on the line altogether. The characters have lost what made them relatable and special to me. The stories have become predictable and boring.
And to be even more honest, I don't even really find New Avengers and Dark Avengers very interesting anymore. I haven't picked up a comic since August -- and that's voluntary this time. With Captain America: Reborn ending soon and Dark Reign coming to its conclusion, I see this as the end of my Avengers reading.
So . . .
That's all I got.

I have to say, WS-- totally huge exalt for self-examination. I'd give you another for the apology (which is much appreciated-- although personally I've not been irreparably offended by anything you've posted, even when posted in impassioned haste-!)-- but the system seems to only allow one exalt at a time. Probably a wise mechanism. And, wow, there's actually no joy to be taken from your becoming disenchanted with these titles, since you were indeed enjoying them. You're spot-on in understanding that varying tastes do not have any connection to personal worth--- yep, they're just tastes. And the fact that that enjoyment has faded for you is very unfortunate. No victory lap, here. In fact, sort of the opposite, since your support of Bendis & his work kind of kept alive the viewpoint in this forum that, quite possibly, the work has been fine, and that we're just largely a group of folks that haven't been "getting" it. And that's still possible, of course. Football analogy: Remember a couple of seasons ago when young Tony Romo fumbled that extra point snap, and single-handedly took Dallas out of the playoffs? NO ONE, not even us Washington rivals, liked to see that sort of thing happen to any player. Okay, maybe the analogy's a little extreme--- but the sentiment's in the right place. . . HB

HB Hey, I LOVED when Romo screwed up. Hope it happens again and again, too. E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!!!!! I know, us Philly fans are scumbags, but I also hope Romo breaks his leg, and Bendis breaks his writing-muscle, whatever that would be. He ruined the Avengers on his way to ruining the entire Marvel Universe. Thank God for Abnett and Lanning's GUARDIANS of the GALAXY, or I probably would not be buying many Marvel books at all. I'm just glad I stopped wasting money on Bendis books, since Secret Invasion prove to be a steaming turd.

On the one hand, I appreciate what you said and exalted you for it. It's good to see you having some more understanding of some of our views. And for the record, I don't think any of us (me anyway) ever thought you were stupid for liking what we didn't. I know that my problem was that I just couldn't understand it. It's like Lady GaGa. I know a lot of people love her (Some on this site may) but I just don't get it. It's all about tastes.
On the other hand, there's a sadness to reading what you wrote. Even though I couldn't understand your love for the current state of Marvel or Bendis in particular, I envied it. I remember the days when I loved what Marvel put out and looked forward to my next trip to the comic store to pick it up. I haven't been in a couple of weeks but I know that when I do, I'll still only pick up 4-5 titles max. I'm likely to be disappointed in 2-3 of those. Sorry to see that you are joining us in our dissatisfaction. It's nice to have the company but I'd much rather be joining you on the other side.

I can completely recognize the unrepentant Philly Phan-ness in your nature. Yikes! You guys are a scary bunch! (I, of course, am a fan w/out a functioning team at this point. . . ) HB

(I, of course, am a fan w/out a functioning team at this point. . . ) Well, look at the bright side--at least there were no real expectations of excellence for your team. You were spared the pain and ignominy of, say, having to watch a favored-in-the-pre-season/off-to-a-good start team suddenly turn a corner and go 70-92 and sink into deeper and deeper into oblivion with each passing day... So even though I despise Torre (too many years of Skankee-ness) and Sciosia (those bitter batter memories from the 1988 NLCS still haunt me), I am praying for an all-L.A. Series!!! ;D (The alternative is just too gruesome...)

uhhhhh who is "anti-modern era?" Not me!! I happen to love Mark Millar and think newer artists like David Finch and Bryan Hitch are two of the greatest comic artists of all time.
I love comics past but don't live there. I despise Bendis and I'd have despised him if he came out in 1964.
