Just thought I'd start a thread where we can post our thoughts about the new Watchmen movie once we've seen it.
Just 80 minutes left for me until I finally get to see this bad boy. Hoorah.

Okay, I just saw it. Only comment I have right now, since it's the middle of the night is that (no spoilers here) the "new ending" that I was worried about turned out to maybe actually be a slight improvement, so I was pleasantly surprised with that.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'm not a big fan of Moore's, so I'll wait and rent the DVD for this one. so far, I've seen mixed response around. Those who have read the novel liked it very much, those who haven't were disappointed by the lack of general superhero fights. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 66% at the moment.
PS: animated version ;D

Adored it. Don't see how they could have made a better adaption.
The only scene that had nowhere NEAR as much impact was the big climax, and that's because they weren't able to establish the Bernies, the psychologist, the vendor etc as they could in the comic book, so it didn't matter as much.
Rorschach and Dr Manhattan both PHENOMENAL. Sadly, my favourite character from the graphic novel, Ozymandias, came across VERY watered down, which did dampen my enthusiasm a bit.

Saw last night at the Imax theater in Reading. It was good enough to go see. As mentioned above, Ozymandias was definitely watered down. They also added a lot of extra violence, possibly to distract from the fact that they made Rorschach less disturbing. They really ruined the flashback with the psychiatrist, sapping it of a lot of weight in favor of making it more graphically violent. I also thought Nite Owl was far too in shape and effective. I guess I can't really get into my problems with the ending without going deep into spoilers, so I'll stop there.
Bottom line: It's worth seeing, but don't expect too much. There was too much depth for them to properly convey it, so it feels more like they're constantly making insider references to the story than actually telling it.

There will be a director's cut of Watchmen in July, Zack couldn't put alot of footage in the movie cause it would've made the movie 3 hours long.
I took my girlfriend to see it we loved it she was suprised to see Dr.Manhatten naked through out the entire movie.

The violence and ugliness of the rape and child molester, etc. scenes were not as unsettling for me in the comic. The movie was true to the source, but just too depressing for my movie taste. Super-violent, and some sloooow scenes, and I believe it WAS 3 hours long. At least it felt like it to me. I probably shouldn't have brought a date, in hindsight.
The positives were the opening montage, the Silk Spectre and Nite-Owl scenes, and the soundtrack (except for the horrible cover of one of my favorite Dylan tunes, as I 've stated in a previous thread). The special effects---top notch. Oh and more costumes then any movie I can remember, all colorful and wonderful to see.
I kind of wish I waited for the DVD rental. I guess the story is too complex for a 90-minute length (my pet peeve for most movies). And any parent should review it before renting this for the kids.

It was about 2.5 hours long. Ultimately, I think they just wussed out of showing Rorschach in the light the comic casts him in...keep him a simple ultraviolent vigilante, that's a lot more marketable. Ultimately, there were too many slow-motion kung fu fights. As I referenced before, they paid lip service to the events of the comic without trying too hard to really pass along their impact.
I still stick with my original line...it's worth seeing, but don't expect anything great

I doubt Alan Moore will ever see the movie, He doesn't want to see any of his work on the big screen.
Alan said that movies and tv can never capture what comics have and they don't stay true to the story.
The company who promoted the movie didn't promote it well.

I don't feel strongly about the film, one way or the other. It was interesting but it never had any emotional weight for me. I enjoyed the montage at the beginning and thought the film was visually stunning. I could have done without all the blood and bones breaking.

I took my girlfriend to see it we loved it she was suprised to see Dr.Manhatten naked through out the entire movie. Hmmm...I was just about to take a crack at the umpteenth volume of X-Men Essentials--but instead I think I'll head over to the neighborhood cinema to check out Billy Crudup's essentials...uh, I mean the Watchmen movie. Thanks, everyone (especially goldenfist ;D), for the reviews!
