Nutcase, you're now a reservist Avenger and I'd wager my cape that you'll be full Avenger status within two weeks

Threads like these make me feel like it's impossible to like comics from all decades. I love tales told from the 60s-- ah, hell, even the 1930s! I really do. I like comics from the 30s, 40s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and today (note the lack of 50s; that's mainly just because I haven't read any from that era). ~W~ I have gotten the impression from the good Doctor (I can almost see him wringing his hands as he conjures up these thoughts that will destroy the Silver and Bronze Age treasures like the Death Star took out Alderaan) that he thinks he's going to "get me" when he starts posting on the Classic threads. I am not afraid to sit here and tell you that for the most part I don't like comics from the '40's (with some exceptions, and those are usually for their historical value or because I just think they're cute in a way) and early '60's (like W, I haven't read too many books from the '50's). In fact, I'd say Avengers doesn't really start to matter for me until around issue #19; FF didn't roll for me until Joe Sinnott arrived, and Spidey (while I respect Ditko's work) doesn't register until Jazzy Johnny drew what Steve did not want to do -- the unmasking for Peter and the Goblin. In terms of 60's DCs, well you can just about forget any of that until the "new look" Batman; Legion is tolerable in the period but doesn't become a "must read" until the Cockrum/Grell era. So my dissatisfaction with the present doesn't mean I am a zombie of the past. I'll engage anyone in dialogue on the goods AND bads of what I like. And I will be the first to admit that I don't read many books these days -- I am pretty much down to buying only what I hope will be "sure things" for me: Legion, the new Brave and the Bold, the Teen Titans trades, Ultimates 2 #13 (whenever that comes out ), and anything else that registers on my cool-o-meter.

If I am rabidly for something. I start a string and rant and rant about how great it is. Four other people are for it as well and bulk up the string ranting and ranting about how great it is. There will be people who pass by the string who dont like whatever it is. Oh, so you post strings. The rest of us are just dealing in the much-inferior "threads"...

dlw66: you left out something as baad or almost as bad when it comes to Spidey: "Sins Past"... Talk about lost innocence, literally...!!! I thought that Marvel had a terrible idea by telling this story. The story itself might be quite interesting... but, it detroyed so much...!!! And that's one of the differences, IMO, between the Marvel of yesterday (my Marvel) & the brave, NEW Marvel... they both tell/told amazing, bold stories, but the creators that came before, as a rule, BUILT over the fundations of what came before, whereas, to me, the NEW creators don't seem to feel constrained to do that anymore, and very often they build their NEW, bold stories only after trashing & bringing down the lore of what came before, those days when many of us discovered & fell in love with comics in general & Marvel in particular. So I believe it is not CHANGE per se that we old timers necessarily object to, thre has ALWAYS been change in the MU, the reason -I think- we so strongly dislike THIS particular set of changes is because of that obliteration of the fundations that we perceive... Balck Knight, I'm struggling with pretty much the same questions you ask yourself: are my days as a comic book reader done...? More & more I feel like the answer is "Yes", but the jury is still out on that one. Two comic book conventions I always loved & took for granted are, or seem to be, all but dead (for good...?) in the MU: that the marvels lived in a world that acepted their benevolent vigilantism because there existed as well a constant threat of superhuman menaces, and that they lived in a world where keeping a secret identity was possible...

ABSOLUTELY not! Why would I want to "get you", Dlw? You're Dlw! You're the most passive and all around pleasant guy on any forum I've ever been at! You're like "The Thing" of the Avengers Assemble family!
I'm HOPING I'll cause some other folk who despise CW very vocally and criticise it's every minute detail to realise that we can't say "We'll analyse THIS era until it falls apart buit not this one because we like this one." I'm HOPING people will realise that a story can have fifty thousand minute flaws and still be a fantastic story. I'm not hoping to get anyone and of all people on this site, you would be bottom of the list! I'm stunned and most heartily apologize for mistakenly conveying that impression! You may expect a signed apology note hand delivered by my finest Doombot, good fellow!

You're like "The Thing" of the Avengers Assemble family! Hmmm... someone must have posted a picture of me around here of which I am not aware. No, by "get me", I meant that you might attempt to raise my hackles so to speak. I really was just trying to get across that I don't think I'll defend "my books" to the nth degree like you and W defend Civil War et al. I'll tell you why they are special to me, but I am pretty objective about that old stuff.

But Doom something else I noticed. You say you feel like the bad guy. You shouldn't. I would expect that anyone called “Doctor Doom” should feel like the bad guy but probably doesn’t!
To be fair, I think it would be JUST as boring and rubbish if it went: The W: Boy I hate Bendis! Nutcase: Yeah, me too. I hate his dialogue. Ua2: I think he writes all his characters wrong! Uberwolf: You know who else suck? Quesada and Millar Night Phantom: Yeah! I agree! I HATE them! Doom: I think we should burn Bendis in effigy! Fortunately, in actuality it would be far more exciting. For example: The Night Phantom: Who says this isn’t the Noxious New Marvel Age of Notoriously No-Talent Nostalgia-Negating Nincompoops?!?
he thinks he's going to "get me" And your little dog, too!
