No spoilers. But for the love of god, stay for the credits. They are very long, but I swear, the scene after the credits is one of the top ten moments of my entire life.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off was the first movie I could remember that happening. We stayed in our seats because we'd gone on one of the first nights and the theater was really full. Those who got up and left right away missed out!
Can't wait -- thanks, Scott!!

This might be the best realized Marvel film of all. It all works. It's exciting and fun, without being goofy. The clip at the end of the credits is well worth the wait.

This movie was everything I hoped for and more. Downey owned that role. If and when an Avengers movie gets made, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that Favreau directs.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I have just updated the main AvengersAssemble.net page to reflect that fact. ;D So... let me get this straight... so you're saying you liked it...? ;D I'm glad someone else asked for clarification. Because I was also hazy about Van's opinion of the movie... ;D Another question I have is what is the statute of limitations regarding discussion of the movie (esp. the truly awesome final scene after the credits) without spoiling it for some who may not have seen it yet? I know it's a stretch with this being the top-notch Avengers site that some haven't seen the movie yet. I just want to be fair before ruining the surprise for someone. While the rumors were out there, the dialogue in the scene was very surprising. Marvel has done a great job of setting up the Marvel Universe for their upcoming slate of self-produced films. The next few years is going to be awesome for comic book/superhero movies.

If you haven't seen this movie, then go out there RIGHT now and treat yourself to the best comic-film adaption in the history of, y'know, the moving image.

I know it's a stretch with this being the top-notch Avengers site that some haven't seen the movie yet. I just want to be fair before ruining the surprise for someone. While the rumors were out there, the dialogue in the scene was very surprising. It appears that more and more of us have seen it or will shortly, so as far as I'm concerned it should be ok to comment on spoiler elements too. I'll change the topic title to reflect on this so that no one is caught unprepared. Back to the movie, I watched it yesterday, and wow!! It was amazing!! Just like in Batman Begins, whoever wrote the plot was very smart in not adding a villain who could steal the scene from Tony, so the movie is entirely focused on him and his friends, and the result is great! Even having the computerised Jarvis seemed to fit well and wasn't a problem, the armor looked great and so did all its weapons. The funny moments (like the fire-estinguisher robot ) were ok, short enough not to be silly and worth a good laugh. And the actors did a great job! I especially liked Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper, she just fitted really really well, and I'm glad she didn't end up kidnapped or something. Downey Jr just was Tony Stark, it's amazing! He possibly lacked a bit of the verbal sharpeness of his comic counterpart but nonetheless was always beliavable. Rhodes was a bit sidelined overall, but what he did, he did well. S.H.I.E.L.D. was a great addition, it made the movie fit more in the Marvel continuity. And, was that agent who kept trying to meet Tony Happy Hogan? I don't think he introduced himself (but I could have missed it), but somehow, when Pepper thanked him in the end, I though he could be. The post (the very long) credits scene was much appreciated ;D Just me and 4 or 5 people stayed behind to watch it (feeling very silly in the process -_-) but it was worth it. Let's hope it turns in what we all hope for ;D

Actually Favreau played Happy. It was a non-speaking role, but one part had Pepper refering to Tony's driver as Happy.

Well, that is interesting...Van is without a doubt the biggest Iron Man fan I've ever known, so his word carries a lot of weight. I'm even ready to concede that he's a bigger Mar-Vell fan than me (though it took the better part of a decade to admit it)
Now, if they'd just make a movie for him...

I dunno... Dave Medinnus might be a bigger Marv fan than either of us. Certainly in terms of size, he's bigger, anyway. heh.
I've pretty much promoted Carol to 2nd place ahead of Mar-Vell, since she's been active in the MU again the last few years, and he really hasn't, what with being dead and all.
I can't imagine them ever making a movie of him. The best we could reasonably hope for is an "X-Men-movie-style" cameo of him in the background in a scene from AVENGERS...
He simply was never as popular in his time as younger people today seem to think he was...

Well, as I haven't read a new comic in nigh on to ten years (thus my leaving the AML and not really posting much here), I don't have that problem. Carol never rated as highly with me as she did with most of the others. I'm sure you'll be happy to know, however, that a friend of mine did go crazy and decide to start worshipping the viking gods (Asatrua, I believe) and I've not been able to enjoy my Thor back issues since.
Still, I did finally see the Iron Man movie, and I loved it as well. Iron Monger probably works better as a first movie villain than the Mandarin, and the Crimson Dynamo would seem kind of silly, unless the movie was set before the wall fell. I'm not sure the character was quite as booze-soaked as I remember Tony being, but you couldn't really have that without making alcoholism a major subplot, and that would've dragged the whole thing down (even if it might've been more technically faithful)
So, a definite thumb's up for me, easily the best superhero movie I've seen, with Sin City it's only competition among comic book films.

Two weeks in and shellhead is still kicking tail. I thought for sure that Speed Racer would overtake the #1 spot. A great sign for future Marvel movies. ;D

Box office data www.imdb.com/boxoffice/Iron-Man is down to #2 now, but earned an impressive $ 222,485,000 just in America, and it's close to 300.000.000 considering the whole world!

Hey, I've noticed around Cleveland and Akron the stores carry very little or no merchandise promoting either the movie or the character, aside from a few action figures on their toy sections. In other words, I saw no IM themed towels, underwear or notebooks... Did any of you guys noticed the same thing around your hometowns, or is this somehow a bizarre incident...? I remember that when a Spider-Man movie comes out I can't walk around my local Wal-Mart without seeing Spider-Man everywhere, all around me! If this indeed isn't an isolated situation, I can't imagine how Marvel could have dropped the ball like that, unless they didn't have much faith on the movie, but I can't really imagine that would be the case...

What stores did you go to, Bong?

Local Comic Shop I suppose. There is not much around here in the UK either, but after all this is Marvel's first self produced movie, so I suppose they put too much money in the film itself to afford much advertising. Still, it's a bit odd since the success of the movie would certainly push sales of merchandising.

How's this for jumping on the bandwagon? The IM movie was released in the US on Friday May 2 and on Tuesday May 6, the Metropolitan Museum of Art unveiled its "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" costume exhibit. (Okay, I'm being cynical; I know the Met's schedule is planned months, even years, in advance.)
Robert Downey Jr.'s IM costume (silvery-gray) is included in the exhibit, BTW; the costume is quite impressive.

I finally got around to seeing the movie this afternoon -- and the wait had been killing me! My oldest son had seen it the first weekend, but he was great in not giving anything away. In the end, however, I did hear what the last scene was, so while it wasn't a surprise it was still very exciting and worth the long wait.
Nice set up with Rhodey looking at the Mach-2 and saying "next time". Tony's drinking throughout the film sets that up pretty well.
The only complaint I could have, and it's certainly capable of being looked-past, was that Stane jumped right into the bigger and even more powerful Iron Monger suit and worked it like a pro. I liked that the screenwriters took the time to show Stark learning the armor through a lengthy trial and error process. They dropped the ball with Stane in my opinion.
But, overall, a fantastic adaptation! I am very much looking forward to the next three years as we build toward the Avengers!!
