At the Chicago con Sunday I saw, at one of the first vendor booths I passed by, a 9-DVD set with professional looking packaging, etc. of the Marvel Super-Heroes 1966 cartoons. The list price was $50, and the guy said they were selling it for $40. I passed on it, as I had in mind some other things to purchase, but my main reservation was this: to the best of my knowledge these haven't been packaged on DVD. Years ago I saw them individually on VHS, but never packaged as a group -- would this have been a) a bootleg and b) of poor quality. I left the show glad I didn't get myself into a bad purchase, but upon further research it may have been the real deal. See below. Does anyone have any further information?? I'm kind of kicking myself now... www.amazon.com/Marvel-Superheroes-66-Collection/dp/B0002VEX6Y/ref=sr_1_4/102-9445858-6076935?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1187061424&sr=1-4

I don't think it was the real thing. A few years ago a DVD collection was announced, and Amazon even had a release date, but it kept getting postponed until one day on Amazon it said what it says now: the product is "unavailable." I was so disappointed! Here's some background, from 2005: www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=2838One of the Amazon reviews refers to these cartoons being available on video, but I can't find any evidence of that on-line. Most of the other Amazon reviews say things like " If this ever produced, I will buy it..." etc.

Uhm, at the bottom of my memory, I seem to recall the editor of the Italian Spider-Man mentioning, in the mail page, something about certain marvel cartoon dvds having finally come out, and once the animation area of www.immortalthor.net/ was updated with what I seem to remember being DVD screen shots. This being said, both could have been referring to the Spidey 1966 series only (one episode featured Thor) so don't kick yourself just yet BTW most of the old Marvel cartoons are available on youtube (for example www.youtube.com/results?search_query=captain+america+1966) and can be downloaded and converted in avi format with vixy.net/

The Spider-Man cartoons of that era (1967) did get released. The first season is watchable, but (with a few exceptions) the second and third seasons *heavily* reuse footage, and many of the storylines make no sense with Spider-Continuity. This is because the Grantray-Lawrence went bankrupt and Krantz films took over. They reused footage from another show for at least two episodes, and many other episodes were essentially remakes, e.g. compare Swing City with Specialists and Slaves, or Rollarama with Vine, or The Winged Thing with The Vulture's Prey. In addition, a number of villains were more Doctor Strange sort of foes, e.g. Pardo, The Evil Sorcerer, Phantom from the Depths of Time, the demon from Revolt in the Fifth Dimension.
