Wow. So start producing this winter?
Like Cap and Avengers, this is something I refuse to believe until it reaches what I'm now calling the Iron Man Threshold.
But I do wonder if we'll be seeing the costume unveiled at SDCC next year....
2009 sounds awesome!

Sounds amazing! I really like the way the plot begins, with all the mythological history of the character. I hope they do a good job with it, the results could be fantastic!

By the bristling beard of the All-Father...! I do hope it's not true... I'm sorry, but I just can't picture any kind of Thor with such schnozzola... If it comes to that, I would rather see Fabio as Thor... or, even, the Rock with a blonde wig...!!!

Oy!!!
I hope it's not true! But I must admit I can't think to anyone for the main character. The closest was Kevin Sorbo in Hercules (strong looking, capable of good speeches), but he is a bit too old now.

Double Oy! Um, Kevin Sorbo is really not that great an actor... Have you seen his "Kull The Conqueror"? And I like bad movies.

If they DO end up using Triple H, at least I hope they set a moment aside to explain how the Destroyer did a number on his nose, you know, "off panel"... ;D

I liked him on Hercules and a couple of guest appearances in Dharma and Greg and OC (of all places), but that's it. He is also in a sci-fi series I think, but don't know which one. The thing is that I can't think to any decent alternative, it is really a tricky one.

His Sci-Fi show was Andromeda, didn't see much of it. Seemed like Hercules in spaaaaaace.
That's always a problem, finding a muscle bound freak that can act. Ever see the Conan the Series. They had some German guy as Conan... muscles on his muscles, but he was a lousy actor.

May be Dean Cain, the guy who played Superman in "Lois & Clark" a few years ago? But I don't know how old he is now, nor I can imagine him blonde.

Cain's 41 now (while Kevin Sorbo's 48, not much of a difference there...). But you're right Shiryu, I cannot picture him blonde either...

The guy who played the leader of the Vikings in THE THIRTEENTH WARRIOR.
They called him "Bulvye" or something, but his character essentially was "Beowulf."
He is a big, blond guy with a deep voice, a good presence, and muscles. And Scandinavian. There you go.

He's not that young either. Since they're planning an origin story, I'm thinking they'll try for someone younger. Hopefully not a wrestler. But if they do... why not this guy? wwe.mytopix.com/edge/Triple H is not exactly a spring chicken himself.

Maybe they will use two different actors for the origin and the present story ? I suppose it will depend on how young the young Thor will be, and how long the origin part. If it's only a couple of minutes, like the opening of Superman with the destruction of Krypton, they could easily show us a teen ish, and then use an older actor for the rest of the movie. May be we shouldn't put too much weight on the age either. Maguire is definitely not 16 in the first Spidey movie

I cannot locate it now but some site which I shall dredge up a link for apparantly read the script. This is what I got from what they said-
Pros:
-Epic scope- big parts for Loki, Warriors Three, Sif et al -Huge final battle- Always great -Lots of use of mythology- begins with creation of the world -Encompasses the origin tale: "Thor begins a dick, becomes a human, then becomes a God again" -All the lands of Asgard explored
Cons: -No Thor in New York -Not remotely a super hero movie -Some wierd fantasy stuff- hammer made by gnomes? Battle with a hell stag? -Very, very, very complex and detailed
Could be an awesome epic fantasy movie but I wonder if it'll be left feeling like our Thor, especially since it doesn't seem to be at all a hero movie. Makes one fear for the Avengers movie even so he's confirmed to be in it.

Someone has been skimming through norse mythology... Thor's hammer was actually made by trolls, then enchanted by Odin.
So long as Thor isn't driving a chariot powered by goats, they should at least be on the right track...
I'm a little concerned about Thor as a movie, because the various mythologies of Thor/Donner change with interpretations (i.e. Wagner's "The Ring of the Neiblung") and Stan Lee certainly played fast and loose with his mythology to suit his purposes as a superhero.

Anything in there about red hair? If the Warriors Three are in it, though, it seems like it will get more of a Marvel treatment.

Nothing there about hair colour to the best of my knowledge. It's apparantly LotR-like in scale though, certainly not a bad idea.
I have zero problem at all with this being a mostly mythological/fantasy based film, really I don't. Many of the best Thor stories are. But I hope they establish a strong hook with Earth/Donald Blake just so that they can set that up for future films, especially the Avengers. That's why I'm worried by no New York.

I think they'd do better to find a good actor - someone who can project intimidation - and maybe even create a bulky costume to make him look bigger. Or use a cinematic technique like they devised for the Lord of the Rings films to create the hobbits (but in reverse, of course).
Picking someone just 'cause he's big is about the quickest way to the remainder table that there is.

Looks like they are going for the Tolkin Rings/Harry Potter angle with that modification. Oh well, let's see what kind of costume they come up with... it will probably follow more of a Norse mythology look as opposed to the comic book Thor

You could kill them and eat them, and as long as you didn't break the bones, you could wrap the remains in the goatskins and the next morning, POOF! Two live goats would appear. Wow, those vikings really were some weird dudes.

I don't care who plays him, as long as he whips out with "I say thee nay!" at least once. That, and I want to hear the pounding of his hammer in THX Surround.

As comic geeks we are-of course-in favor of another movie. But is Thor known well enough outside of our ranks enought to be that big of a draw?
Xmen, spidey, hulk and FF have reputations outside of our circles, but will the general public have enough interest?
