Comics Continuum announced some publicity on the next straight-to-DVD Lions Gate offering: The August 14 release of the Doctor Strange animated movie on DVD will include a preview of the fifth Lionsgate/Marvel animated film. Avengers Reborn, previously titled Teen Avengers, will be released in the summer of 2008. The film is written by Craig Yost, who co-writes Marvel Comics' New X-Men with Marvel Studios' Craig Kyle and is story editor of Cartoon Network's Fantastic Four animated series. It is directed by Gary Hartle, who storyboarded the big battle sequence in Ultimate Avengers. Marvel's Eric Rollman told The Continuum the film will skew younger than the two Ultimate Avengers films with younger protagonists. Avengers Reborn is set in the future, featuring an aged Tony Stark and Ultron as a villain.

Using the name "Reborn" is not a smart way to make a good impression on longtime fans.
But, clearly, this is NOT intended for longtime fans at all...

This is clearly intended for the next generation of fans. And they are welcome to it.

Nothing wrong with a cartoon aimed at kids, probably they´re trying to reach the same audience from Titans Go, but this picture is just too weird... Wasp is a boy and Thor is a girl (or not)? And please please tell me that´s not teen Luke Cage...

Hey, no one's even asked yet what gender Ultron will be in the future!?!
In regard to shows about kids (the Titans Go! series was mentioned above...): Have you watched the Legion show? I really don't like the art style. However, I caught the JLU episode on Boomerang last night when Brainiac-5 and Bouncing Boy captured GL, GA, and Supergirl and brought them to the 31st C. Man, it was really good, and a great homage to the 70's Legion!!!

I really wish Timm and company had gone on to do a Legion cartoon. I really don't care for the look of the current Legion show either, although I've heard the stories got better.

I'm thinking the children of Thor, T'Challa, Captain America and Hank/Jan (Hank and Jan)? It should be their children and not teen versions of them if its set in the future, which would make sense if the movie had an older Tony Stark.
That would make it more of a Young Avengers type of thing. An Avengers legacy team. Works for me. I'll probably rent it. A premise like that usually makes for some nifty explosions.

It reminds me a little of a What if I read years ago. In there the heroes and the villains had stayed on Battleword, unable to go home after the Secret Wars, and eventually their children become heroes looking a bit like the ones in the pic here.

Or it's just an extension of what Waid/Ross were doing in Kingdom Come.

Or it's just an extension of what Waid/Ross were doing in Kingdom Come. The comparison should not be made. Kingdom Come is an absolutely incredible, awesomely written and spectacularly illustrated doomsday story about a future gone mad which should be ranked among the greatest comic stories ever told. Avengers Reborn.... is not... That said, I won't dismiss it offhand. I dismissed Young Avengers like that and always regretted it. Certainly there's potential, and it could be good. I mean, I just flipped through that video and saw the AWESOME Thor from the Dan Jurgens run. (Big 'Lord of Asgard' helmet). Obviously this is our future Thor, but if they're going to make such winks at the fans as to use a roughly comic accurate design, that encourages me.

The only comparison I made to Kingdom Come was that the idea of a future progeny carrying the mantle of the older generation has been done many times.
I know KC's place in comics history. Sheesh...

I just love the way the video dudes talk about creating a new universe featuring the children of the Avengers like it's some new grand idea. I still have all my dusty copies of A-Next *cough cough*, which featured among other things, a young black panther, girl Cap, a second generation Thunderstrike, Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne and Scott Lang's kids, all of which could've easily been all ageified and Ultimated for the video. I mean come on, COME ON. Just say you didn't want to do A-Next, but don't act like you're reinventing the wheel.

Looking at the photo I would guess that these Avengers are going to be the kids of the current Avengers, ala What If? #114. The reason I say that is that the new Cap, while a boy, suspiciously resembles the Black Widow. This probably carries over from the Ultimates 2 DVD movie. Thorette is a girl and Wasp is a boy. I wonder who their other respective parents are. Meh. RSC

I would give my right arm to see Kingdom Come on the big screen (with it staying as written, and complete with the epilogue)... I realize it would only appeal to comic book geeks such as myself, but after listening to the audio book version more times than I can count, it leaves me wanting more... I wasn't aware of a Legion cartoon, but I guess that explains what's showing up at my local McDonalds... I'm an old LSH fan as well.

Well if you can, Hourman, try to get your hands on that epidode of Justice League Unlimited that had the Legion in it. I'm sorry, but I can't recall the title of the episode.
By the way, Brainiac-5 was dialogued as the Silver Age Brainy, not like the Brainy in the Legion over the past few years (which I kind of like better, in some respects!).

I'll try YouTubing it first, and see what I come up with... I'm guessing the Brainy of Legionaires/LSH of the 1990s has long since been forgotten.

I know my dad will like the movie, I guess they didn't want to include anyone related to the Hulk.

I just finished seeing this, it was on the shelves at the dvd rental shop and there was a 3x2 deal, so I thought "why not?"
Surprisingly... it's good! It takes a while to adapt to the basic concepts (most of the Avengers are dead and the main characters are their sons and daughters) and Pym (son of Wasp and Hank) is insufferable, but overall it's a nice movie with fairly good pace. It also features heavy apparances by Iron Man and Hulk, and smaller ones by Vision and Thor.
Give it a look if you find it online or at a good price, it's a nice hour of fun.
