Slightly different posting available (with an interview with the voice actors for Thor and Nick Fury) at www. comicscontinuum.com, as of 6/23/06.
Lionsgate has released the following synopsis:
"To save humanity, the Earth's mightiest heroes must reunite for a rematch of heroic proportions. Mysterious Wakanda -- It lies in the darkest heart of Africa, unknown to most of the world. An isolated land hidden behind closed borders, fiercely protected by its young king - the Black Panther. A king who holds the fate of the entire earth in his hands. Because brutal alien invaders are coming, soon to fill every sky and control every land, seeking what is buried beneath ancient Wakanda.
"That leaves the Black Panther with a single option, one that goes against the sacred decrees of his people - to ask for help from outsiders. And so he turns to The Avengers - Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Giant-Man, Wasp, Black Widow...and the Incredible Hulk. These mightiest of heroes have battled the aliens before, and barely survived. They thought it was over. They were wrong."
* The film has been rated PG-13.

I rented it the other night. It's a little more action and an little less character than the first. All the same, it still has some good moments and a fun plot.
Its mindless but fun.

I liked it better than the first. I thought the animation for the first movie wasn't very good.

I saw it last night. I give it a C+. I think the bland reviews above pretty much mirror my own feelings--it was just okay. You know what struck me most? It's that there isn't one "breakout character" in the whole film. Not one of the Avengers comes off as super interesting--in other words, I can't see any young kids watching this and becoming a big Thor or Captain America fan.
You know as much as I applaud any exposure for the Black Panther, I couldn't help but notice that this film makes him just another dull comic hero. Where is his stealth? Why could people like the Black Widow so easily sneak up on him? Why does he land with a huge CRASH when he's supposed to land silently AND always on his feet or hands? And what's with the flying metal claws? They're boring. He's a tech genius and his big weapon is a metal claw?
Guys look--they're trying to make the Panther into Wolverine, that much is obvious. But nobody likes re-runs. uhg.

I finally bought this DVD last weekend for $7.50 at Target and watched it this evening. I like the extra features -- the "Which Avenger Are You?" feature is kind of fun, the outtake reel is pretty funny (some very sophomoric humor had my sons belly-laughing), and the "first-look" at Iron Man and Dr. Strange were interesting (I've not seen either of those videos yet, either).
As to the main feature, I guess I agree for the most part with what bobc wrote above. Although I found the Panther somewhat refreshing (in light of recent portrayals of him in the comics) and didn't have as much problem with the shooting claws, I understand how a big Panther fan like Bob could be disappointed. My biggest complaint is that once again Hank Pym was the big jerk. When, o' when, will writers redeem this guy?
Worth a look if you haven't rented it yet, and even worth buying if you get a deal like I did.

I enjoyed it, keeping in mind that it was the Ultimate Avengers. I made a thread about the Doctor Strange movie.
