Anyone pick up this fantasitc video game, which I believe launched today? I'm waiting for the Wii version. (Next-gen graphics AND amazing interactive controls? BOOYAH!) Closest thing to an Avengers game we've had since 'Captain America and the Avengers.' Playable (major) Avengers include: Captain America Iron Man Thor Ms Marvel Plus unlockable Black Panther! PSP version (which, unfortunately, is the worst ) includes Hawkeye and Black Widow! Plus New Avengers- Spidey, Wolvie, Cage and Spider-Woman are all playable, with Ronin (groan) on the PSP. Non-playable? Here's where we hit the jackpot. Non-playable we see: Hank Pym Wasp Vision Ultron Jarvis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mandarin A LOT of Asgardians The Wrecking Crew Winter Soldier And, well a LOT more. I'm only really listing Avengers relevant ones here but still. This game seems like it really is bringing the Avengers to life, and I for one don't regret that in the slightest- especially if it spreads more mainstream recognition Anyone pick the game up?

I love you Doom !!! I didn't know anything about this game, and I've been long looking for a good quality Avengers game, after enjoying the Spidey, Hulk and X-Men Activision games. I'll take it for sure ! Do you know anywhere where I can find the minimum requirements for the pc version ?

I got to see a lot of footage from the game at San Diego comic con, and it does look very nice. Many different characters are included, and at some point you get to face off against Galactus! It is probably a typical button masher but should still be much fun. ;D

Is this just a console game, or can I play on the PC? (Like X-Men Legends, although I did have to wait a tiny bit)

There is a PC version too. If you type the name of the game on Google, you'll find the official website. Only thing is, I can't find the minimum requirements for this version...
PS: X-Men Legends 2 was a great game !

I LOVED X-Men Legends, unfortunately I wasn't able to finish. After a while, as with any game, I tend to find other things to occupy my time. (I love games but I'm not a "gamer" if that makes sense.)

I got it on sale yesterday. It strikes me as an entertaining game, but not a great game. The best thing so far? You get to kick Wolverine and Spider-Man off your team right away. One can only how that one of the level bosses is a tubby bald guy in a loud shirt.

As I said above, I will be getting it on Wii at release. So it will be, y'know, better than otherwise My first team, I think, will just be my four favourites- Thor, Cap, Mr Fantastic and Spidey. After that I go through it with an FF team, an Avengers team, and maybe even a Rejects team. (Stares pointedly at Blade and Elektra.) I can't wait to smack some sense into Doom. (No, it is not the real Doom! Doom does not lose! It is merely a Doombot!) PS: Redstatecap, you realise Winter Solder is in the game? Your favourite character?

My boyfriend and I got it for the 360 last night. We only played for about an hour, but it was pretty entertaining.
Your first team starts with Thor, Cap, Spidey, and Wolverine. Your goal is to destroy Ultron robots while making yor way to nick Fury on a crippled helicarrier. We had a lot of fun trying out the various powers of these initial heroes. Unfortunately both Cap and Thor start off in their Ultimates costumes, but you can change this by earning SHIELD credits. We quickly switched out Spider-man and Wolverine for Iron Man and Spiderwoman, at which point "Avengers" flashed on the screen and we got a bonus for team XP.
It is pretty much exactly like X-Men Legends as far as gameplay. You and your team run around beating the crap out of people. So far, and granted we haven't played much, the puzzles are virtually non-existant, or so simple they aren't really puzzles. I can't see myself playing this game for an extended period, but I think it will be fun for a while.
The cut scenes are gorgeous.

After playing this game for a couple of days now, I'm beginning to get quite disappointed. Don't get me wrong -- it's still an entertaining hack-fest, but it appears that that is all it is. It's billed as an action RPG, and it isn't that at all. In the first stages of the game all you do (besides hack) is click through dialogues. You have no real choices. Nothing you say or do affects anything. There are no real puzzles to solve besides the most basic step-n-fetchit missions. The only thing that affects the game thus far is, did you finish the mission alive or not? Pure hack-n-slash gets old after a while. This game would have very limited replayability for me. There are also certain stages where the viewpoint changes from isometric to "video-game" style, i.e. you're at the character's level, and the character can only move left or right across the screen. Furthermore, the voice acting is terrible. It sounds like they hired one male voice actor and one female voice actor to do everything. These things are highly annoying to me and frankly it smacks of a poorly- and cheaply-designed game. As someone who is a big fan of excellent action RPG fare like KOTOR, I'm very disappointed. My recommendation is that if you were thinking about buying it, reconsider. At least until it's on the bargain shelf.

RSC Interesting, most reviews I saw gave it close to 9/10 and said it was just because it didn't do anything new. As an X-Men Legends veteran I'm used to lack of puzzles! Also interestingly, sites like IGN said the voice acting was GOOD, but there weren't enough different quips. (They also all said the music was awesome.)

I can't see how one could call the voice acting "good," especially in comparison to games where it really is good. Especially because several of the male characters are (IMO) the same voice actor. The music isn't bad at all, but it's pretty derivative. The main cue is heavily inspired by "Gladiator." Another cue is lifted from Superman I. The main thing I'm disappointed about is that the advertising led me to expect that this would be a Marvel version of KOTOR. It isn't, not by a long shot. It's a hack-n-slash with the thinnest pretense of an RPG. I've been through two complete stages (Heli and Atlantis) and have not had one SINGLE choice of paths. You click through dialogue (I guess this counts as role-playing) and run the mission. I don't begrudge people their hack-n-slash, but I would not have bought it if I knew that's all it was. That really annoys me.

I also dislike base RPGs (I found, I'm afraid, KotoR to be repulsive and a generally bad game, despite my love of Star Wars) and had never heard that it would be similar to KotoR, so that might explain that. I'm going to quote from a few different outlets, just show I wasn't just 'making up' about the music and voice acting: From PGNX Media: From IGN: From Gamespot: From Gaming Trend: I wasn't trying to dis your opinion in any way, just referencing my sources. I will judge the game for myself come Christmas.

These sorts of "reviews" are often from entities that are very much a part of the hype/advertising machine that has an interest in selling these games. Even online reviews like amazon can be dicey because video game companies literally pay people to spam positive reviews for big releases. Hey, it's not a bad game, just not what the advertising leads one to expect.

Play City of Heroes, sure it's $15 a month but it's great! It has the best costume creator in gaming history. With the items they give you, you can recreate many of your favorite heroes. So close that Marvel sued NC soft. When I started playing there were a bazillion Hulks and Woverines. Since Marvel won the lawsuit not so many, but some die hard fans still sneak some in.
If I could figure out how to post an image, I could show you a screenshot of my attempt at the Vision, standing next to Cyclops and Colossus. I've seen a really good Captain America too.

Uh, if you don't like hack and slash, then you might not like city of Heroes. The level grind that it takes is too repetitive and too much. Sure, there are times you interact with others, but I've found that unless you know who you're meeting ahead of time, the players are too worried about their own grind to really interact on more than a superficial level. But if you liked KOTOR, then you might have experienced some of the same.
But count me in as enjoying the game. The PC controls took a bit getting used to (slightly different than X-Men Legends II) but it sucks me in. This type of hack n slash is okay, since it has an obvious progression to it, and the characters are just too cool. I'm planning on playing with just old-school Avengers as much as I can. My team is largely Cap, Thor, Iron Man, and Ms. Marvel.

Well, redstatecap, I guess you aren't familiar with X-Men Legends or X-Men Legends II, because if you were, you would probably have understood what you were buying since this is produced by the same people. So I wondered how this could have been mistaken as an multiplayer RPG. Sure enough, on the back cover it says action-RPG, and it does have multiplayer, online capability. Perhaps that was what was misleading? That does seem unfair. Sorry your disappointed!

Does anyone know the status of Marvel MMORPG? The just announced it a couple fo months ago, but I could have sworn I read that it was canned already. I know the studio who made City of Heroes was making it... IRONY DEFINED... and their website only has the announcement and a trailer (how is that possible this soon?).

If it's like X-Men Legends then I'm going to love it. I like action RPGs like Diablo, Nox, Neverwinter Nights and XML2, while normal RPGs tend to get boring after a while, when puzzles become too complicated and there is no moving forward.

For the guys who have it on PC, could you tell me what the minimum requirements are ? I've been looking around and the only site I found mentioned a ridicolously high 4.12 GHz processor, which seems rather exagerate as a minimum requirement (it was 1.2 GHz for X-Men Legends) and 128MB graphic card (+ 512 MB RAM and 9 GB free on Hard Disk). Still, if it is 4.12 I wouldn't be able to play it Help anyone ?

Marvel's mmorpg is going to be exclusively for the xbox 360. DC has one in the works too. I read somewhere that the company that was making the marvel game dropped it and is doing the DC game, but that's hearsay so I don't know how true it is. Still, City of Heroes is a great game.

Did a little looking on the web, here's the official trailer for Marvel Universe Online for the Xbox 360. www.gamespot.com/xbox360/rpg/marvelmmorpg/...which really doesn't show anything... And.. it is being made by Cryptic studios, makers of City of Heroes.

Sorted it ! It was a spelling mistake by the first site. It should have been: Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 2.0 GHz or AMD Athlon(TM) XP 2000+ (1.6GHz). but the 4 from Pentium 4 had been typed to close to the 2.0 Great, I can play ;D

I actually bought the PSP version while I was on a trip. At some point, Hawkeye becomes available, and initially you also have access to Ronin (blah) and Captain Marvel (Genis). I have been playing the Big Three (Thor, Cap, Iron Man), and rotating in other heroes. I finally got all of the big three into their classic costumes and the little kid in me was in awe. ;D
It's still just a button masher but kinda cool to see my old faves running around bashing heads - and taking down Fin Fang Foom was a blast!

Ooh, yeah, a blast it is! I just finished the game yesterday, although apparently I didn't find all teh comic discs throughout the levels. Oh well. (I've avoided hints and cheats sites so I could play the game by meself!) There's a LOT of "wow" moments in the game. For me, that was in Act IV. Let me just say that I've never been a Thor fan, but the cutscenes in Act IV made me really appreciate Thor and what he brings to the universe (I'm trying avoid spoilers here). "My Team" was everyone Avenger-y, although I mostly played with Cap, Iron Man, Thor, and Ms. Marvel-- until I unlocked Black Panther and it was "boys only!" I also used Luke Cage and Spider-Woman (with her Julia Capenter variant) at times, although I admit I do like to play in-theme, so the more occult scenes got Doctor Strange.
Incidentally, Hawkeye and Captain Marvel are only on the PSP. My PC game had Daredevil and Black Panther. Wish I could trade the DD for Hawkeye, my fave!

Okay, I've got it (hence the less time i've been around in the last 4 days ^^). Had some troubles with it at first, turns out my video card is too old (3 years -_-) and not supported, so I only got a black screen. Luckily I used 3d analyzer to emulate the pixel shading and then it worked almost perfectly (sligtly slow in the very busy scenes). Game is really good fun, not too difficult (so far, I'm still at act one, in Atlantis) but with lots and lots of marvel heroes to play with / against. My team is mainly Cap, Thor (who I use the most) and Spidey, and I rotate the fourth (it's Iron Man now). The special moves are good fun and so are the combos. Backgrounds and scenarios are nice too. In conclusion, I'd recommend it ! Looking forward to play more !

Just finished it. The first video game ever to give Doctor Doom what he deserves on the big screen. And very ironically, I ended up fighting him with only that Blasted Richards after he took down the rest of my team Excellent game- X-Men Legends but better. Wii controls are deadly to get used to but extremely immersive when you do. The range of characters is superb, the (sadly rare) CGI cut-scenes awesome. I can't get over Doom though. They made him twelve thousand times better than that movie sham or the Ultimate rubbish. It's real Doom, and he looks stunning. Same with Galactus- these guys actually look like people who can tear apart the Earth, not just caricatures in stupid outfits. Also props to the Loki cut-scene, which gave the Thor fan in me a chill! Although I confess I found the Fantastic Four underused. The team of Wolverine, Spidey, Cap and Thor was used when necessary for CGI cut-scenes, but for mission briefings it was always the same guys and not once was ONE member of the FF there. They also referenced Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment, one of my favourite comics ever. So much Doom I barely noticed the other villains and heroes- although let's own up. How many of us thought we'd ever get to form an Avengers team (Mine was The Big Three plus Ms Marvel obviously though I replaced her with the Panther when I unlocked him) and battle Ultron, Mephisto, MODOK, Fin Fang Foom, Loki, Galactus and Doom in the one game? Two minor complaints- -The Shi-Ar stuff is best used in an X-Men game. -It is hinted that the next game will have Galactus as the big bad. Well... okay... but he was in this game and he was a pushover. I want Kang, dammit! And the Red Skull!

Shiryu : Luckily I used 3d analyzer to emulate the pixel shading and then it worked almost perfectly How did you do that? What boxes did you check? thanks Hi ! I checked "Emulate HW TnL Caps" and "Emulate pixel shader caps". These two were enough to make the game work on my pc (which has 512 MB RAM, DirectX 9.1, 128 MB Graphics Card and 2.13 GHz, the problem was with the model of the graphic card). PS, i've long finished the game and liked it very much. Now I'm trying to unlock the final secret character, which can only be done after ending all the training discs missions. And since some characters I didn't use much are too weak for this, it involves a lot of training to increase their experience and power.
