Did...I...just...see...Wolverine's...smoking...crotch...? Did I? Did I also see "super tough, takes punches from the Hulk", Wolverine get knocked on his ass by a couple of shots from a .45 automatic? Not surprisingly, the Hood is also displaying new powers-- he really needs them to be any sort of viable threat... still I saw this illo a few days ago and this seems as good a place as any to put it: farm2.static.flickr.com/1298/545138849_d6f565ab15_o.jpg

I see that Lenil Yu still hasn't learned how to draw and Brian Bendis still hasn't learned how to write.

I see that Lenil Yu still hasn't learned how to draw and Brian Bendis still hasn't learned how to write. RSC hey now, to be fair, Yu has to draw from Bendis' script. I can that being totally uninspiring. As an example look at this crisp clean cover from his Superman story, which was well written and probably a pleasure to illustrate. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman:_Birthrightmaybe Yu is as unhappy as the rest of us having to read bendis' work?

ok... duel .45's to the crotch. Way to take the high road BENDIS!??. So aside from the gender benderitis, he has a thing for low blows.

Still nothing about the book that would make anyone with a better than room temperature IQ want to read it. Bad art, bad writing, just... bad.

Oh come on!!!!!
Look, I like this book. A lot. I enjoy it's underground, rough-around-the-edges team feel. I like the Hood and that he's got a new power. I like the way the characters are being written.
But Bendis has actually crossed a line with me . . . c'mon, man, having Wolverine get shot in the dong?
Bendis, you're not cool enough to pull that off. Stick with what works. We don't need boobs nor Wolverine's johnson getting shot nor male villians getting turned into females or anything like that to enjoy comics. You know it's unnecessary. I know it's unnecessary.
This is your first warning, Bendis. You only three. The rest of this issue better be golden.
Balok - don't be hatin'. You enjoy comics about a guy who wields a magic hammer; another guy whose power is "patriotism;" and an alcholic that wears a high-tech armor. Critize the books, not the ones who read.
For all my complaining about you guys, I never once insulted your intelligence.

I know this isn't at all related, but you've reminded me- the reason I think the reason Captain America seems less cheesy to me than he does to many is because because I read Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters first. Seriously, that guy's power literally IS patriotism. His strength is proportionate to America's faith in it's ideals. That may be the single most groan-inducing thing I've ever read. Not to mention among the most worthless abilities, besides the ming boggling question of where one GETS such powers and how one finds out... I'd imagine Captain America has more strength than him these days at peak human level.

First BENDIS! made Cage shatter Elektras pelvis, now Wolverine genitals got shot (but they will grow back - Wolverine says!) - BENDIS! got deep psychological problems...

This is your first warning, Bendis. You only three. You're a generous man. Marvel writers get only one mistake from me. Then their book goes off my pick list. DC writers get more slack. It's what I do, as far as Marvel goes these days. Believe me, I'd love it if they'd give me a reason not to hate their comics. So far, no luck. You enjoy comics about a guy who wields a magic hammer; another guy whose power is "patriotism;" and an alcholic that wears a high-tech armor. The first one is true. The second one isn't really true anymore, until Brubaker brings Cap - and I mean Steve Rogers, not some stooge picked by Tony Stark - back. And the third one isn't true at all. It was, once, but Marvel has taught me to loathe Tony Stark and what he stands for. Critize the books, not the ones who read. That was intended as a criticism of the book, but I'll rephrase if you like. "Still nothing about this book that would make me read it if they were giving it away and someone told me that every time someone doesn't read New Avengers, God kills a kitten." Better?

In all fairness, BENDIS! is trying to stick to the new Marvel mandate, which is aim for the younger customer base. Apparently he feels young teens find crotch shots funny. Ok, that's a given. Nothing gets their attention like a set of boobs on something. Also a given. Wonder why all these other writers haven't figured this out....

You say that BENDIS! crossed the line for you but at the same time the story is not insulting the readers intelligence? Kinda weird... 1) He crossed the line in that the Hood shooting Wolverine's dingy is stupid. 2) How is the story insulting my intelligence? Having captions explain what is happening in a panel insults my intelligence more. ~W~

I posted this on another board and everyone like Wolverine crouc th shot they thought it was cool. Really? How old are they? I admit, when I was thirteen years old, I probably would have found it pretty funny. Since then my tastes have gotten a little more sophisticated. RSC

I don't have any particular problem with the crotch shot. I mean strategically, one could argue it was a smart tactic, I guess. I don't have any real feelings one way or the other, it's not like I'm horrified and outraged. They're too completely different things. DC crossed the line for me with, say, Identity Crisis when they expected me to believe heroes can mind wipe each other when caught in the act of commiting a heinous deed and it's all fine. While I may hate that story and despise the message... it doesn't insult my intelligence. See, the two *can* be mutually exclusive.

Tactically the crotch shot makes sense. But aesthetically it is disgusting. If I want advice on tactics I'll find a book on the subject. I read comics for joyful escapism, and bits like this do not provide it. No, thanks.
For the same reasons Thor should never again trust Reed, Tony or Hank, Batman should never trust Zatanna or the other members of the Justice League who supported that loathsome act.
