Today I read Avengers #183 (for the first time), the first part of the Absorbing Man story from Michelinie/Byrne. On the letters page I found one interesting piece of letter. The writer did moan the dropping quality of fan letters lately on Avengers Assemble! ( ;D) - though he did that (should I say, of course?) in a very friendly and sophisticated way (hmm, two points which are especially true for this board, too, aren´t they?).
Anyway, my eyes dropped down after reading only the first half of the letter to see who was the writer of that letter. Don´t even know why I bothered looking for the name (I won´t know any fan from that time) so it has to be for the substance of the letter itself. So, who did write that letter? No other than Kurt Busiek (I assume it is this Kurt Busiek) himself. Busiek did not complain about the stories at all, but nevertheless I had to think of you guys here in the forum who have such a hard time with Bendis´ New Avengers.
And one thing´s for sure, Busiek did know where to place The Avengers in MU even back then: "I am sending this to the Avengers because -- as a magazine -- it´s far more the spiritual figurehead of Marvel Comics than either Spider-Man or the FF, and the only mag to seem representative of Marvel as a whole."
Yeah -- ´nuff said! ;D
PS: For sure some of you guys do know other examples with letters from creative people within Marvel? So far I only know two (very short) letters from Stan Lee in FF #269/270.

I recently saw a letter from a young Frank Miller, but I don't recall the comic or issue. I know back in the 60's/70's many of the writers were fans -- Marv Wolfman is notable in this case. Of course Jim Shooter might be the best example, taking over writing the Legion when he was only 13!!

Hail Kurt Busiek!
Pass the daggers 'round, and let's overthrow the Regime Of The Q; let the Age Of The Busiek reign supreme!
Avengers Assemble!
Busiek as EIC. Now, there's a thought.

I have another letter from Kurt Busiek, printed on the Defenders. He criticises quite strongly the past issues of the book (somewhere around volume 1 #61-64 I think, judging from another letter). Here it is (I cut the address away in case he still lives there).
