Some quick thoughts after ShowMeCon 5 (or, as I dubbed it, "JailBaitCon.")
The Anime crowd took it over-- probably 80% of the attendees were 15 year old girls in Anime costumes, squealing for a guy named "Vic" who does a voice for some cartoon. Good for him. I hope he doesn't end up in jail.
Sold a small stack of SENTINELS books-- all volume one, no vol. 2 sales. But given that most attendees were young girls, I'm surprised I sold any.
Marvel vs DC Jeopardy was fun. We only did Marvel Jeopardy because I found out I was doing the event at the last minute and had no time to make up new questions, and couldn't use last year's questions. The winner was "Paul," who narrowly edged out Jim Yelton (from Midnight Entertainment). Both of them got the Final Jeopardy question right: "Professor Xavier once dated the leader of this alien race." (Category: Alien Races in the Marvel Universe.)
Jeremy Haun, the artist of the CIVIL WAR "Captain America/Iron Man" issue where they tried one last effort at reconciliation, was at the con, and was on both comics panels with me and a couple of others. Jeremy is a very nice guy and offered several insightful thoughts about working for Marvel, about Civil War, and about the MU in general.
(I also got a great sketch of Esro Brachis from him, for the upcoming Sentinels hardcover omnibus collection.)
Finally, I talked up the ASSEMBLED! book at the opening ceremonies and at the panels and at my table on artists' alley, and people sounded very excited about it. I think this book is going to do very well, and will raise lots of money for George Perez's charity.
Now it's less than two weeks till WINDY CITY CON! Whew! Time to print up more flyers!
