I have always loved the Brian Bolland Catwoman poster!
I would certainly have to disagree with Black Manta and Harley Quinn making the list; in addition, the author cites the purple bodysuit with the thigh-high boots as one of his faves for Catwoman -- then why include the Dark Phoenix costume (which is essentially the same thing)?
I have always been partial to Kang's costume. I have also always liked Kraven and DD's old foe Gladiator.

Doom must express his complete approval.
However the costume of Green Goblin is not even close to Magneto's!

That bucket-helmet is a classic, no doubt!
I guess, in reflecting on Batman's villains, there isn't really anyone whose costume I overtly care for. Of the Flash's, I almost think Professor Zoom's is the best! I also like the 70's Lex Luthor purple top/black bottom outfit recently depicted in Alex Ross' Justice series.
DD's old villain Death Stalker was cool.
I've always liked the classic Vulture costume, as well. Adrian Toomes hook nose made it all the better!

AA- Thank you for the link! I can't tell you how many nights I spent dreaming about the Riddler as personified by Frank Gorshin...I even had his bubble gum card (there were Batman TV show bubble gum cards produced way back when).

Frank Gorshin was the best! He was totally out of control on Batman, great to watch.

Lord, I long for the days of "Sweet Christmas!" The Joker's suit is just kind of plain when you think about it. BTW, there sure are a lot of baddies in purple!! Luthor, Joker, Purple Man, Ringmaster, Catwoman, Kang...

What, no love for the Taskmaster's first costume? That full page at the end of Avengers 195 (or was it 196) just screamed, "I'm going to kick your ***!"

The Joker's suit is just kind of plain when you think about it. It might not have many detailed aspects on its own, but I think the combination of the suit and the Joker's facial characteristics make it look truly menacing. He's like Luthor- when he's out of a suit its just not the same.

Yeah, look at him don those gloves; he’s a dream gynecologist. (Oh, how I wish I could quell my impulse to post this…)I'm glad you didn't... Okay, let me get my mind out of the gutter. On to more pressing issues, namely the color du jour for villains: BTW, there sure are a lot of baddies in purple!! Luthor, Joker, Purple Man, Ringmaster, Catwoman, Kang... They also tend to favor green (or purple with green, it's a popular combo in comics) - -just looking at the villians in AA's link, greenies include the aforementioned Riddler, Poison Ivy, Catwoman at times (loved her costume in Batman #197), the green-skinned Goblin, Doom of course--and doen't Kang wear green?

IIRC it had to do with the quality of the paper the comics were printed and the color shemes back in the Silver and Bronze Age(s). That´s why they changed the Hulk from gray to green with purple pants too.

Yes, you're right, von Bek; and there was a more limited palette of colors they could use back then, too. Comics coloring is an interesting topic that I'd like to know more about.
Also, just want to add that the website American Avenger posted to start this thread is fantastic...not just for the piece on the villains, but the rest of the website is great too...informative and a lot of fun. Exalt coming AA's way.
