The most recent retcon, done in the masterful "Books of Doom" states that he was actually hideously scarred indeed, not by the explosion of the machine but by the touch of Mephisto. However this was told from the PoV of a faulty Doombot, so it's doubtless coloured by Doom's own perceptions PLUS this being an imperfect copy. Personally I am of the Stan Lee school! I just started reading Books of Doom yesterday...it's all told by a doombot?! Crap. Well, I guess that doesn't really change the story, knowing it upfront, but dang...

I am almost through and I really have enjoyed it.

Um, actually I have dressed as the Alan Scott Green Lantern... if anyone has the November '97 issue (#75) for the costume contest, a talented costume maker friend of mine actually made the entire original JSA set (and yes, we took a picture around the table). Both Alex Ross and Martin Nodell were both impressed with the pic... So I guess I resemble Alan Scott

This one was fun a few years ago -- thought some of the newbs would like to engage in a little self-deprecating humor!!
