Well, the title is a bit of an X-team rip-off, but the fact that C. GAGE is writing this piques my interest. I'm still disappointed that Av:Initiative is cancelled, but hopefully this will be just as entertaining.
So far the "Academy" looks like a bunch of no-names, but i hope Gage will include some old-school characters like he did in Initiative, like Tigra, Taskmaster, Diamondback, Constrictor......
I also hope this isn't just another "teen" team, like Young Avengers, Runaways, X-men Academy....hey, this idea has been done to death. Hopefully Gage can do something original, not the same concept that has been done over and over.
But i gotta remember, this is the "new" Marvel, where a novel concept is beat to death, until they can squeeze every last dollar out of it.
I plan on checking out this title, and also "Secret Avengers", if the line-ups are interesting enough. Again, I hope Gage and Brubaker can get away from the dreaded "Bendis Universe", and produce some good stories.

Thanks for the links, goldenfist.
Wow, not to get negative about this book before it even comes out, but this line-up looks pretty weak. Sure, new characters have to be introduced to allow the Marvel Universe not to become too bland, but Slott and gage already went this route early on with Avengers:Initiative, and does anyone really give a crap about Komodo, MVP, Cloud9, Gauntlet, etc..... ?? The LAST bunch of recruits turned out to be lame and unmemorable. Again, I hope there is some old-school flavor to offset the new guys. C'mon Christos, give the Avengers fans what they want!

You know, it's not that I don't want any new characters to be introduced but I hate when there is the flooding of them that there has been in recent years. The MU has over 5000 characters already. Most of them are sitting on back burners. I could care about a few new characters a year but not all of them. Just like in my own home town. There are thousands of people. I care about a few of the new ones that move here but for God's sake, I don't want to try to get to know all of them, especially if I have to ignore my old friends to do so.

The character striker almost looks like DC's Tempest.
I wonder if they will invite the Order team to join.

The more I see of this, the less interested I am.

Well. . . yeah, I think I'm with you, SW. This is different from New Mutants/New Warriors/Young Avengers/Runaways/first X-Force iteration (and probably a couple of others I'm overlooking) how exactly? This doesn't even seem to make marketing sense to me. If similar recent books (*ahem* YOUNG AVENGERS-- which I thought was pretty good-- *ahem*) with a more legitimate connection to the Avengers brand didn't make it-- what in the world indicates that this one will?
That cover art looks nice, though. Is that Stuart Immomenemomen. . . menon. . .? (I've always liked him-- just have trouble w/ the name. . . Seem to recall he came aboard 'waaaaaay back with the ill-fated New Universe.)

But... maybe... it might be.

Good heavens! It just struck me that Avengers Academy isn't available through subscription. Just double-checked via Marvel's site. Surely this title isn't about to suffer the same fate as Thunderbolts??
