Is there something in place that lets you know if someone is running multiple accounts.
I was reading back through some of the past posts and I saw a few instances that lookes and read like the same guy agreeing with himself in an argument. I'm not actually saying that anyone here now is that sad but I was just wondering.

That's quite interesting Nutcase because, at times, I've harbored the wild suspicion that Doctor Doom & you are one & the same...

...I have no earthly idea how you could possibly come to that conclusion. DO YOU THINK I HAVE TIME TO MAKE THE NUMBER OF POSTS HE DOES IN ADDITION TO MY OWN? ?

We admit to having been each other, but never the same person.
I don't ever say 'God Save the Queen'

I was reading back through some of the past posts and I saw a few instances that lookes and read like the same guy agreeing with himself in an argument. It’s because of that certain post of mine that Ultron commented on, isn’t it.

no, it's more current than that and it definitely isn't thought about you. I'm most likely jumping at shodows anyhow. So I was just asking if it is possible to monitor.

Well. if it's possible to monitor it, then it must be possible to anti-monitor it as well...

Uhm, that's only partially possible. The only way it can be done is by comparing IP addresses, but with the new dynamic IPs that companies have been using for a couple of years, IPs are not unique anymore, and change at each login, leaving only the first 2 or 3 numbers the same. However, these numbers can belong to more than one person (it's a bit like finding the people behind a phone number when you only know the first 2 or 3 numbers).

Thank goodness this board changes the screen name throughout when someone enters a new ID; if not, we wouldn't have known what the heck was going on around here 3 weeks ago!!!
Multiple ID's...

That's not what I'm talking about. I mean it seems that some may be running completely separate accounts. But it can't be proven so I'll just drop it.

An interesting side note when I was double checking that. I found a command that let's me see the people who did / did not login in a given amount of time. This showed that, while not posting, a small but regular group of people login and look around regularly . However, it also showed that 46 (including a few who had been posting for a bit at the time) have not logged in in 365 days ( ) and that 95 ( ), including Ultron! ( ) have not logged in in 150 days

Those are some interesting stats!! Gives some credence to steed's post of several months ago "Stand Up and Be Counted!".
Of course, steed himself hasn't been around lately...

It's actually quite worrying to see that 95 out of 168 (more than 50%) have not accessed the forum in 5 months. Obviously here everyone can read without login, so the figures may not completely reflect reality, but still...

As long as shiry (EDIT: May the typographical gods forgive me... SHIRYU!!) is tweaking some things on the site, and Van has adjusted the "status" of our posters, what about this:
It seems like 100 posts might be the hallmark of a really interesting or long-lived thread. Is there a way, when a topic hits the century mark, to change the color or font of that thread on it's main page (ie General, Classic Avengers...)?

No, nothing like that. I can change the icon, but can't adapt it to the number of posts. (Actually, there would be a way: increasing to 100 the number of posts necessary for a "hot" topic and than change that icon, but sounds a bit extreme). Incidentally, I found a way to change the icon to something happier looking. What do you guys think, like this more or want the old one back ?

I don't think so, but will look into it straight away. PS, "shiry" ? Oy!!!!!! Typo, I swear!! Who referred to imperiusrex as "Rexy" I guess I don't mind the new "sarcastic smiley", but I also liked the old one. Really, kind of a different meaning in a way between the two.

Good, I'd rather not start to call you Douggy Unfortunately I still can't add emoticons, just substitute. The older one had a sad expression in the eyes, I suppose it was more like saying "yeah, right !", while this one is more obvious tongue-in-cheek. I'll see what the others think and leave it or bring back the other one, or alternate them from time to time. PS, I think it was W with Rex

I have another suggestion
Would it be possible to have a page just for book reviews? That way if I go on another Friday book revie tear I'm not pushing all of the topical conversation threads down to another page.

It can certainly be done, I'm just uncertain if it's the case to do it, since reviews are quite interesting and highlight the whole section. I think the best way is to keep the reviews where they are, posting the new ones 1 or 2 at the time, and leaving 2 or 3 days in between before new ones, so everyone has time to post and old topics are not pushed away all of a sudden (the rush of new topics in this section over the week has further complicated my index for example :

You could also place related reviews into a single thread.
