Just a quick picking of the collective brain of the Avengers community. Who was the first Avenger to utter the classic catchphrase "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!"? Have several / many Avengers used it with any regularity?
Thanks in advance!

After looking at the Avengers DVD ROM starting with issue 1, the first instance I could find of anyone using that classic phrase was in issue 10, page 19. "Avengers Assemble!" is shouted by none other than the Mighty Thor! It's next said in issue 14, again by the thunder god.
The first time the phrase appears on a cover is issue 16, this time from Captain America.
Curiously, in issue 11, Captain America yells, "Avengers away!" as they all take off! And in issue 12, Iron Man says, "Avengers Attack!" I think Stan must have been trying out a few different phrases at that time before he settled on the one we all know and love.

Wow, thanks for going to all the trouble of reading through the DVD Romics to find the answer to my question. You guys are awesome on this board.
I never would've guessed Thor by the way.
I love the "Avengers Away!" line, reminds me of Monty Python! ;D

Glad to be of assistance. Actually, once you'd asked the question, my curiosity got the better of me.
Welcome to the AA boards, Garada! ;D

So which Marvel catchphrase do you suppose has been uttered more over the past 48 years -- "Avengers Assemble" or "It's clobberin' time!!"?

Well, I don't have any reference on the subject at hand to say definitively, but if I was betting on it [and I would bet a lot on this ], I'd say 'Clobberin' Time!'. Especially if you count the phrase being said in film and animation, I'm certain that The Thing has uttered his catchphrase way more times than all of the Avengers Assembled could ever hope to. Does anyone know the actual answer? Now I want to know!

Just a quick follow-up to my last post, and a question on the usage of 'Avengers Assemble' in 21st Century Avenger comics. I haven't really read many new Avengers comics in the last five years. I'll be honest, I'm just not that interested in a lot of the convoluted stuff going on in the Marvel Universe. Civil War, Secret Invasion; I just don't find a lot of it fun. I feel the same way about most of the DC Universe too, so I'm not being elitist in any way. I do check out a lot of collections from my local library [most recently DC's Infinite Crisis], but a large portion of recent stuff just leaves me cold, especially the sparse Avengers material I have read. It also seems like I am 'with' a lot of the posters on here in that I don't really regard Bendis very highly either, so that only further weakens the case for Avengers. That being said, I have read some of Mark Millar and Brian Hitch's recent stint on Fantastic Four [specifically 'World's Greatest'] and really liked it. It has a modern 'widescreen' sensibility while still maintaining a lot of silver agey fun. For cryin out loud, the book opens with the team riding on a steam locomotive barreling through the Wild West being chased by Native Americans on horseback. But despite all that, looking through the book now, I can't find a single instance of Ben uttering his his most notable quote. Given that most of the current Avengers comics seem to be 'hip and edgy', I can't imagine that they would run around saying 'Avengers Assemble' in that corny ol' way [that I love]. Am I wrong? I'm still fairly confident about 'Clobberin Time' though. Geez, didn't he say it in EVERY FF comic Stan Lee wrote?
