In an attempt to be fair to all those who think that Marvel has improved instead of going in the other direction, I offer this poll. I won't give my list of reasons for inclusion here because I don't really have any. I just listed as many names as I could to offer choices. For most of them, I don't see any way they've improved, but some people may see things very differently.
The ones I did choose are as follows:
Luke Cage - Okay, I admit it. This is the one character that Bendis writes well. Prior to NA, he was getting practically no love and now he's a major player in the MU. I still miss his Powerman identity but his character has grown.
Hell-cat - Well, she did return from the dead - that's a big improvement and she's actually been getting a little respect in the MU lately. It's about time.
Falcon - Another character who has often become second banana but has upped his significance this decade.
She-Hulk - I'm not sure I'm up for saying her character has improved but it really hasn't deminished so I'm going with that. I was really disappointed that her book got cancelled.
Hercules - Hey, he actually has his own book and the the friendship with Amadeus Cho is quite interesting.

Nice positve poll. I voted for Cage, Spiderwoman, Ms. Marvel, Hercules and my other was Edwin Jarvis.
I feel Cage wanting to be a leader and make his daughter proud is an improvement over the old Hero for Hire (not a Jewel fan though). I like both the imposter and the real Spiderwoman and look forward to see how Jessica adjusts as a woman out of time. Ms. Marvel gets my vote because I think it Geoff John's run was within the last decade and Bendis giving Carol petty thought balloons interests me. Why not vote for Hercules? He has his own monthly now.
I voted for Jarvis because the decade has not been kind to most of the other choices. At least, Slott reminds us that Jarvis is indeed not just an honorary Avenger, but a vital one at that.

Not because there's any negative reason, just the most interesting character isn't on the list. Everyone please read what Peter David has done with Madrox the Multiple Man in the last few years. Wonderful storytelling and a great concept. Peter had Madrox send his dupes into the world and they all learned different skills, different knowledge, different religions, etc. The resulting mental backlash and internal conflict has made Jamie Madrox far more interesting than anyone in the MU to me these days...And I used to think Madrox was such a throwaway character.

I went with Bucky, falcon, and Widow, just on Brubakers' run. It's fun to read, he does the characters justice (even in a post-Cap world), but BW will always be NaTASHA, not NaTALIA for me!
also, I liked the DR Strange mini, and also how he's playing a bigger role in the MU lately, so he's my fourth.
adn 5th is Shulkie, I liked Slott's take on her, even if it was derivative of Byrne's Sensational.
BUT spiderwasp> I gotta disagree with you on Herc and Luke. Give me the 80's versions anyday.

I went with Cage, Panther, Bucky, Falcon, and Hercules.
Cage - for many of the reasons already listed. He's experienced a growth in responsibility and the desire to be a part of something bigger than himself.
Panther - while I haven't agreed with all aspects of his current portrayal (spying on the Avengers?!) I do like that he has grown in prominence in the Marvel U.
Bucky - when I first heard he was coming back, I hated the idea. While I'm not fond of him as Cap, I do think Brubaker has done an outstanding job with him.
Falcon - like the Panther, this veteran hero deserved more respect, and we started seeing that with Civil War.
Hercules - I picked up the TPB and a few issues and I really like what they are doing with this character, who has often been purely one-dimensional. There's a lot of tragedy in his past - it's good to see that utilized.

I agree that it's a good thing that the Panther is now a major player these days. I think overall the changes in his character are good but I think he's lost all his catlike abilities--which is why I loved him in the first place.
I think the she Hulk is one character who has pretty much stayed the same over the years--which is good. Praise Allah that Bendis hasn't gotten his filthy hands on her. Same thing goes for the Falcon.
I have no idea what is going on with Luke Cage these days so I can't say.

I voted for Luke Cage, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel.
Cage - His character in New Avengers amazes me and cracks me up. I followed an issue here and there of Powerman/Iron Fist, followed the early 1990s Cage and late 1990s Heroes for Hire stuff, but I like the character he's become with running in the Avengers.
She-Hulk - Honestly, one of my favorite comic characters. I've collected some of the Savage She-Hulk Comics, Sensational, through the one that just ended, and I've always found this character to be amusing and fun, a welcome addition to my reading.
Ms Marvel - At first, I wasn't too impressed, but in between the early eighties Avengers run and now, I really have liked her, and hers is probably the only title that doesn't have Avengers anywhere in it that I look forward to it coming out (Marvel wise).

I agree about She-Hulk, Kiddo. She is one of the few spin-off characters that really worked and stuck around---and if anything she's gotten better over the years. Remember that awful She-Thing? OMIGOD that was a really, really bad idea. Almost as bad as Rage and Doctor Druid.

Cage, Bucky and Hercules for me, but I would also include Norman Osborn who wasn't one of the choices.
Cage basically went from being a grade C character to a fairly prominent figure in the MU. I liked him more before, with the afro and the yellow outfit, but the increare in importance can not be argued.
Bucky... well, he went from being dead to being Cap, not bad for him. Again, I preferred him dead, but it was more for the impact his death had had on Cap than for his character itself.
Hercules once again has a regular title, and I especially like Athena's constant presence, an interesting and original addition to his cast. The friendship with Cho felt rushed, but seems to work somewhat now.
Finally Norman, because he went from being a Spider-Man only villain to being an important figure in the entire MU, almost at Doom's level.
