As I was sitting here watching the various states go red or blue on this election night, I glanced over at my collection of Avengers bust and it started me thinking. How would the Avengers vote? We all know their personalities, upbringings, social circles, how liberal/conservative they tend to be, etc. Here's my list of who I think would be democrats and who I think would be republicans. Agree or disagree? And remember, I'm only bringing this up in fun, not to start a political debate amongst our members. I also included a few non-Avengers.
Democrats- Captain America, Hawkeye, Spider-man, Wonderman, Falcon, Human Torch, Thing, Hell-cat, She-Hulk, Justice, Firestar, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Tigra, Rick Jones
Republicans- Vision, Scarlet Witch, Ironman, Yellowjacket, Wasp, Ms. Marvel, Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Quicksilver, Black Knight, Dr. Strange, Nighthawk, US Agent, Black Widow, Nick Fury
For most of these, I can give very definite reasons for placing them where I did. For a few, it's just my gut reaction. I could easily be persuaded to change my mind.

I think several would be independents, especially the Vision, Reed and (gasp) Captain America (I just don't think he'd feel right if anyone ever found out he had an allegiance to a particular party). I would also flip Wonder Man to Republican (he's an actor now, but for much of his life was a big business type) and Invisible Woman to Democrat (she and Reed rarely agree on anything ).

Well, we 'know' a very few of these- we know Iron Man went Democrat in 2000, for instance. I'd generally agree with those (I think a few on both sides- like Iron Man, Wasp, Cap, could flip at the right moment.) but I would strongly disagree with Reed Richards. On Values issues, our heroes are split (I imagine many being anti-abortion, but most being pro-gay union at the very least) but ultimately, I think- and there is personal bias here- that the Democrats' stronger emphasis on science would be a big thing for Reed. Particularly since he fits less into that 'rich boy' Republican type that Tony Stark fits to a tee despite his wealth and corporation. Reed at his core is an idealist, I see him going blue 90% of the time.

And if so, when was that?

I think you're pretty on with most of these. I also would move Wonder Man to the Republican side, and I think Vision would be an independant or even a Libertarian.
The other ones I am on the fence about are Justice/Firestar (I only have read their Avengers appearances, so I don't know what they were like in New Warriors) and Nick Fury. I know Fury seems on the surface like a clear Republican, but after reading his Sgt. Fury series, part of me thinks he would go independant or even Democrat. His team showed a diversity that speaks to an unusual level of racial acceptance for the 1940's, suggesting he would have a lot of sympathy with minority issues, which over the past 50 years have been Democrat bread and butter. He also grew up poor, during the depression, so I think he would have been sympathetic to the New Deal, especially with Roosevelt as his commander in chief during the war. So, yeah, I think he might be a Democrat after all.

I think its really interesting how many characters come straight out of the New Deal because of how messed up time is in comics. That seems like something that should come up more, because that's a totally different view of the role of government than is held at the present. I want to hear Captain America talk about the working class a little more.
