I recently had the chance to once again read one of the all-time great stories in Avenger history, "The Bride of Ultron". Unfortunately, my memories on stories between issues 150 and 200 of the Avengers are quite shady, so I was just wondering: Does anyone know how they explained how they got Hank to return to his normal senses? At the end of 162, the Wasp was rescued, but Hank was still definitely not back to his normal senses. Does anyone remember the explanation for how he got back to normal? I'd go and buy the next issue and figure it out for myself, but the local shop here is selling it for $20!!
Thanks to whomever answers!

Ah, my good Dr. Pym, you have but to read my essay in the forthcoming Assembled! Volume 2 and I address this very quagmire!
Long story short: It was never addressed. In the next issue or two, Hank's there as if nothing ever happened!!
Here's an excerpt from my essay:
I was eager to see how events would unfold over the next several stories. I assumed Hank and Jan would be missing for several issues, much as they had after the events of #’s 139-140. After a seeming fill-in in #163, where Iron Man did battle with the Champions and Typhon (years later, I’d see this for the marketing gimmick that it was – an attempt to build up sagging sales on a title Marvel would have liked to save), the team was back in action in #164 against a revised line-up of baddies calling themselves the Lethal Legion. The opening scene showed Simon Williams going through tests under the supervision of Tony Stark, the Black Panther, the Beast and… Yellowjacket?? After I had read the issue, I went back to look for clues to Hank’s sudden sanity. None. When the next issue came out, same thing. And again, and again – and no hint whatsoever as to how Hank had gotten back up and running. Nada. When #170 arrived and I saw that the Bride of Ultron story was apparently being continued, I thought surely Hank’s mental state would be addressed. Even when he was brought face-to-face with the robot for whom Jan’s life force was intended, he remained calm, almost as analytical as the Vision might have been. And that was that. The story, which was very good – I certainly don’t mean to diminish its wonderment and lasting greatness – ended and Hank was just status quo.

I'd go and buy the next issue and figure it out for myself, but the local shop here is selling it for $20!! Say what?! That's a complete ripoff, unless there's a gold bar tucked away inside the pages. #163 is a fill-in issue anyway, with Iron Man fighting the Champions, and doesn't answer your question. I don't really remember the answer to this, but tell your comic store they are nuts.

dlw: I THOUGHT so! I saw some later covers where Yellowjacket was helping the Avengers battle people! I think it's silly that Marvel would just ignore that, especially since Jim Shooter was writing the book by now! Something as interesting as that would be appealing to Shooter. Thank you for the answer, though! scottharris: I think it's because it's a NM copy, but even so, I bought issue 139 (One of my favorites) in NM for $18, so I don't understand how a filler issue from a few years later would be expensive...

If I had to guess on the price, I'd say because #163 has a sweet George Perez Iron Man cover (although if I recall the interiors are by Tuska) -- your LCS is probably milking the Iron Man movie popularity to some extent. Saying that, I don't however know what the current Overstreet suggestion for that issue is...

Saying that, I don't however know what the current Overstreet suggestion for that issue is... I use a website called comicspriceguide.com. It's got about every comic ever published in its searchable database. Avengers #163 lists at $12 for a non-CCG 9.4 copy. www.comicspriceguide.com/p-issues.asp?t_ID=2397&p=2

I recently read these issues. They really glossed over Hank's recovery. At the end of "Bride of Ultron" they say something like "Hopefully Tony Stark's technology can help Hank recover" then, a couple of issues later, one of the Avengers (I don't remember who, my memory sucks) mentions in passing that Hank is recovering well and should be back in action in a couple of weeks, or something like that. Then, the next issue (#165?) Yellow Jacket is back in action, with absolutely no explanation.
