How do you rate Monica Rambeau as an avenger, on a scale from 1 to 8 points? How well does she work for you within the dynamics of the team? How much do you like/dislike her as a character?

I gave Monica a six. Unlike some other new characters that I have complained about in the past -- Mantis -- Stern handled her introduction to the team well. While she provided an outsiders look at the team, her integration into the Avengers was slow and careful, and even though she was one of the most powerful members she never had one of those moments where she, you know, takes out Thor in order to prove to the reader that she's worthy.
Her arc of development from cautious, inexperienced rookie to confident team leader was one of the strengths of the Stern run. It's unfortunate that Gru forced Stern off the book and Monica out of the title in order to promote Cap, because it has resulted in her being ghettoized as a one writer character when I think she would have been handled much better by posterity had she been allowed to fully blossom in the role that Stern was mapping out for her.

7 She is a character with strong powers but also a good personality, that allows her to fit well in a team, and when she is around she always makes the difference. Besides the Stern run, I appreciated her a lot in Avengers Galactic Quest, when she manages to convince even Thor to follow her as the team leader. I would like to see more of her, if used properly (IE: not like in Avengers Unplugged).

An interesting character, but if I recall correctly, didn't her Mom complain a lot about her being a super-hero? I remember thinking that was really annoying and stupid . . .

I gave Monica an 8. I loved watching her emerge from an unsure person to a legitimate super-hero in the pages of Avengers. plus, her tenure was during one of my favorite eras for the team.

I gave her a 6 on powers alone, even without reading the bulk of her Stern-written genesis that everyone raves about. She's one of the annoyingly few Avengers who really comes across as "holy crap" powerful...as demonstrated when she knocked around Green Lantern in Avengers/JLA, or when Zemo took such elaborate measures to neutralize her in Under Siege.
In short, I will always welcome her on an Avengers lineup just because she brings the power cred that the Avengers often lack - especially being the only Avengers I know of who can hit light speed.

While I think the contrast between her personality--nice, down-to-earth--and her extraordinary powers (she reminds me of DC's Quantum Queen)--is interesting, I never understood the appeal of this character. In any stories I've read in which she appears, she always seemed to be going off on her own, battling foes by herself. Sorry, but I will have to give her a 3.

A 4. Very cool powers, personality (IMO) so-so...

I really wish more had been done with this character. The constant name changes certainly haven't helped. I thnk she has fantastic powers and a very interesting background and personality. I liked what Stern was doing with her. Once the Avengers are truly back, and in capable hands, I hope she is a part of the team again. I gave her a 5.

I gave her a 7. She's one of my favorite Avengers and has been sorely mistreated in the years since she left the team. I would love to see her return.

8 -- one of the greatest members ever. Definitely one of the ablest leaders. One of the most powerful members. But her lack of experience and her sense of fairness limited the instances that she would totally decimate enemies. I'm not sure she could be brought back with the same sense of balance between power and experience. Since her membership, seems like she's portrayed as more experienced and able all the time. I would still love to see her come back.

Electric Blue Superman managed to be an excellent team player with a near-identical power set.

Also, at the time of her first tenure with the team, she had just obtained her powers, as shown in an ASM annual I think, so it was fair she wasn't very experienced. Now however she has had them for years, so it's a different matter.
I especially remember how long she considered if revealing her true identity to the rest of the team or not, it felt very reasonable at the time.

I liked her growth and her powers seemed limitless. Could have been a nice recurring character.
