Gah, my feelings are mixed.
The Nova lead-in was brilliant, the other three varied between very poor and mediocre. The main series itself was a mixed bag- pretty good until 6, but 6 was a rubbish conclusion. It wasn't even a real conclusion, it was "Hey! Look Isn't Galactus AWESOME? Isn't Nova BETTER?" Never mind that the Big G's actions clearly direly shifted the cosmic balance or that we never got resolution on the beings who took him down. Then we have the generic Annihilus vs Nova which is completely undercut at the end of the issue.
There are things I like, like making the Surfer herald again and Ronan's fate, but they're outweighed by the things I didn't, like poor writing and the pointless killing of Quasar to try and prove Annihilus as a threat. And at the end of the day, there weren't many changes which will actually impact books.
I give it a C+ or B-.
Yes, that's right.
I actually rated a Nu Marvel fairly important book fairly lowly.
we never got resolution on the beings who took him down.
That is dealt with in Heralds issue 2.
Now for me that's one of those things that irritates me about stories like this; when they leave ENORMOUS, GIANT plot holes to be resolved in other epilogue books. I felt CW did a good job of wrapping up all the plots except Spidey's which didn't have a wrap-up, but to leave such huge plot threads for other books seems just negligent to me.
It was just a 2 issue junket, but I agree with you about this point in the Annihilation series. I was just like you in asking what happened to Galactus' captors.
As for the CW reference, they left huge holes as well though. That's what the initiative and Fallen Son is all about.
Again I point out, whether we like to ackowledge this or not, Marvel is a buisiness, they want to make money. It doesn't justify what is going on, but one way they are making money is by NOT tying up loose ends. Because they know they have suckers like me on the line who just have to know what will happen next.
That's not true Nutcase. Fallen Son addresses the fallout of Cap 25, not the main civil war story, and the Initative isn't wrapping up leftover plot points, it's continuing with the status wuo left in CW7!

For the most part, I stayed away from the “Annihilation” event. Too much Giffen. Giffen often writes on characters and themes I like, but I generally dislike his actual writing—the dialogue in particular is often awkward, to me.
I did read and enjoy Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus #1, which had no Keith Giffen. Well, the lead story with Terrax and Paibok was lackluster, but I dug the origin-of-Stardust backup.

some of us see those things as plot thread left un-addressed as a direct cause of the Civil War
Also Reed and Sues relationship- plot thread
A plot thread resolved in civil war 7.
Wakanda/ US relations- plot thread
Solely a Black Panther plot thread. Not mentioned in the main series ergo not dealt with in the main series.
Do ninjas have to register- plot thread
Resolved when Black Widow took the field
Government involvement in Super buisiness- plot thread
Oh come on!
Civil War resolved all the major plot thrads of the crossover itself while setting up the status quo, and that is part of said status wuo. There were no gaping bits where you went "Well where did... X go..." or "Well why did Y happen again?" Annihilation was choc full of 'em. Had we never seen Reed and Sue after the battle in civil war 7, had Spider-Man vanished after civil war 6, had the Punisher joined in 5, been in the Baxter Buiolding raid and then never showed up again- these would all have been huge plot threads unresolved. But they didn't happen.

...THIS IS AN OUTRAGE.
Take him to see FF: Rise of the Silver Surfer this summer! That should convert him! If not, I demand you read to him Secret Wars or the Galactus follow-up from... d**n, it eludes me but circa %% 60, repeatedly until the knowledge of Doom's supre, acy is drilled into his brain!
And always remember: Doom has NEVER lost a battle, that's what Doom has Doombots for!
1 if Reed and Sues relationship issues were tied up in civil war, why are they still having to leave their team to work out those same issues. This is a plot thread that will continue to come up for some time. so NOT RESOLVED
2. The Black Panther thing wasn't part of the run?!?!? You're kidding right? The Wakandan Embassy got blown up directly involved with the War. During the battle. The international stress increased directly in relation to BP's stance, in the war. Thats related and again, not resolved.
3. OK on the Widow, and as far as I'm concerned they can start throwing the millions of un-registered ninjas in jail at any time.
4. The Government invovement thing is a continuing unresolved plotline established WAY before the civil war. So it is still an unresolved thread
So again, just because you are satisfied does not mean that everyone else is or even should be. I would even be willing to bet that the writers themselves would label these plot devices as unresolved plot threads. I'm not saying they're bad, I'm just saying they are a constant tool used by writers in most of these books. That's how they keep folks coming back.
Now, since we disagree, you see resolution and I don't, that's OK too. We don't have to agree. I still luv ya. But this has already turned into an "I'm right, no I'm right kinda thing" So I'm gonna let it go now.
You wanna debate go ahead. But I doubt either of us change our opinion.
Back to the original thread tho' if you want to get resolution on Galactus' foes, take a look at Heralds #2. It's really not a bad book.
Also Doomsie, I got bad news for you. My son has moved you to #2 favorite bad guy. He likes Doc Oc best now. Sorry bout' that, I tried to raise him right, but oh well.
I just picked up the "Annhililation - Book One" hardcover trade, which includes Drax # 1-4, Annhililation Prologue, and Nova # 1-4.
I've just finished reading Annhililation Prologue. I have to say, I'm finding this story to be really awesome. Very sweeping, epic and exciting. I loved seeing how the Annihilation Wave just goes out, blows the crap outta everything, then becomes a rumor, then blows crap up again, and so on and so on.
