Leave feedback here, I guess. I am seeing it tonight and CANNOT WAIT. I don't care what most people thought of the fist one. It was far from perfect and no "X-Men" or "Spider-Man", but it was fun, it was light hearted and it captured the family spirit. Sure it ruined Doom almost beyond repair but the shortcomings were ALMOST made up for by much of it. If I was to make one marvel movie, ever, it would be... well, a civil war movie actually. But BEYOND that if I could have one made, it would be "The Coming of Galactus" or "The Peril And The Power". So this movie has HUGE potential. Feedback so far seems to be "Better than 1, if still not fantastic." But my exitement is almost entirely for Doom. I have seen, and love, the new armour. I know what Doom does in this movie and I just heard news that makes me one happy Laterian dictaitor.
Doom does indeed... say "Richards"....

I enjoyed the first FF movie, too, though being wildly disappointed with the handling of Doom.
I thought the caught the spirit of the FF perfectly, especially the banter between Ben and Johnny.
With all the team exposition out of the way, there should be no reason why this movie won't kick ass, if not for the special effects alone.
I am going to see it with my son tonight at 5PM. Really looking forward to it.

Right. There WILL be spoilers.
Get the early stuff out of the way- Galactus sucked ass. He is indeed a giant cloud. Well, kinda. There are many hints that he is a deeper being (IE: comic Galactus) WITHIN the cloud which isn't shown- Surfer made a deal with him, which implies sentinence, we see the sillhouette of the classic Galactus' helmet at one point and in the depth of the clouds at the end there is a kind of giant flaming centre which resolves itself into almost a face. And that is it. Giant tornadoes and twisters. Veyr little foreboding, appears only at the end... quite disappointed with that aspect.
The chemistry and relationship between the 4 etc is good. There's camp, cheesy humour- it's a camp, cheesy movie but it's like "I KNOW I'm camp and cheesy, so are the comics and I don't give a CRAP, pregnant dog!" So it's all good fun. Great action throughout, very good CGI. Sue is whiny but hey there's an all too brief nude scene with Jessica Alba. And a dance number. (Must all hero movies have one these days?) The Surfer himself is very cool, particularly at the end. Doesn't talk much but you can see his sheer power and when he does it's when he's desilverised. Oh, and the Fantasticar! Rocks but bad product placement.
Now that the minor details are out of the way, on to the main event.
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!
Doom was handled VERY, VERY well in this movie. The first time we see him is a glimpse BUT it's made awesome because first we see a tiny mediaevil village with a castle on a hill behind it and a caption informs us that this is "HASSENSTADT- LATVERIA". This in itself is BRILLIANT! It's Latveria! It looks EXACTLY like the comics for this second! And he has a CASTLE! Already we're fifty times more Doom-like than movie one! And Doom hasn't even done anything! AND THEY GOT THE LATVERIAN CAPITAL'S NAME RIGHT!
Second appearance, he kills a minion. Of course he does. He's Doctor Doom. Again, SO Doom-like- kills a minion for being too slow. In fact Darth Freaking Vader riffed this from Doom. (FACT!)
Third is the best so far. We see lots of monitors, TV screens displaying events, the Surfer etc... and in the centre of all this, in a chair at a control pad, rotating is the green hooded and caped figure of Doctor Doom! AWESOME! VERY COMIC-LIKE! Only slightly spoiled by his lack of a mask.
Cut to later. Blah blah, Doom gets owned by the Surfer, blah. After healing, returns in human form. His scenes in this form are many and...er...distracting. Okay so I dislike him being in human., His dialogue is good ("Just so we're clear, I hate you all.") He no longer loves Sue which is a big plus, and little use of electricity. He's too much of a lackey in this section but he has his own scheme. He's also blatantly evil. I'm serious, the guy should be twirling a moustache. He';s making his own devices in the corner, standing there practically knitting his fingers together in glee and cackling. It's great!
Then the main event. Whoah, ZAPS the General and his aides. We cut away and when we cut back... YES! DOOM IS IN THE ARMOUR! OH YES! Not perfect comic accurate but EXTREMELY close, with a very personal touch and he's- GAH! It's just DOCTOR DOOM on the screen for the first time! Gets on the Surfboard, disintegrates the general and away he goes. Cue BRILLIANT air battle as Doom throws the great wall of China at them and totally owns the F4 while in awesome outfit. He also speaks little, which is a big plus after "Marco... Polo!" in movie one.
AND THEN IT HAPPENS!
Reed: "Victor! We have to get the surfboard! You have to-" Doom: "Come and get it, RICHARDS!"
RICHARDS! HE SAID RICHARDS! HE SAID RICHARDS! OH YES! HE SAID IT! At this exact moment I know.... this is Doom. All is well. He flies around more, causes more chaos, has a brilliant part where he totally owns them all again while saying "Time for a spin!" which actually works as a quip. He is then defeated in an EXTREMELY undignified way. There is a cool but way too short battle with super-powered-up Johnny, he loses the board, gets smacked by a wrecking ball and falls into a river. And never mentioned again. Ah well, it was good while it lasted.
So for Doom alone, the movie gets a 9 out of 10. For just the last ten minutes. Sure it was way too short but it was DOOM. Now if he returns again he can return as full Doom from the start! Hassenstadt! Monitors watching things! Behind the scenes plotting! betrayals! Power stealing! RICHARDS! IT'S DOCTOR FREAKING DOOM, BABY! After the crap Norman Osborn rip-off of movie one we are at the real things. The only disappointment here was his lack of much motive beyond "Get power. Kill 4." He's also still a bit 2d and does not yet rule Latveria but he's getting there.
With everything else included, the movie is still a big step up over 1. I'd give it maybe a 7.5 or 8. If you didn't like the first one, you should like this more. If you did like the first- this is still better. I honestly believe most of the bashing is just due to the first one's reputation which it also did not deserve. It's camp, it's cheesy, it's fun but it doesn't care! Big step up over movie one! As a side note, the influence of Simpsons writers shows- a lot funnier too!
DOOOOOOM!

Yeah, it was pretty good. NOt too much to add to Doom's review. Of course he focused a little too much on Movie-Doom, but if I was that big a fan and they did such an exponentially better treatment of him than in the first... I would be pretty elated myself.
*************************** SPOILERS ***************************
Oh and that was not just a wrecking ball... it was the business end of a bundle of i-beams. Swinging from the end of a massive, super-crane, used in buidling some of the biggest skyscrapers. The blow would probably of liquified a normal man... so more to be happy about.
I really enjoyed this movie, even better than the first. But I have a list of gripes and/or petty annoyances....
- Is Sue really so whiny and self-absorbed to actually bemoan sulk on the steps of the gazebo because her wedding day has been ruined, considering the circumstances? Granted, and thankfully, they later tried to explain it away as it was not the ruined wedding, but the feeling that they could never have a normal life. But still...
- Inconsistencies with the power transferrance thing with Johnny. Ok, repeatedly we are setup with "he touches another member of the team they switch powers." It happens the same every time. Then suddenly they just know that if they all touch, or he touches them all, or whatever, that he will take on all the powers? Bad writing... sorry.
- If Johnny's encounter with the Surfer's power messes him up, and then presumably fixes him, then why didn't he get "fixed" fighting Surfer Doom? Either losing the other powers, or losing the abilitly to transfer them back?
- Jessica Alba just looked weird at the first of the movie, compared to the rest of the movie? I don't know if she had collagen implants, or botox, or what... but she just looked different during the first scenes. Maybe it was just me...
- I had hope for Doom, as when he was preparing to take the board, you pretty much saw cloak and armor gauntlets. I was curious if they actually got the armor right... because what is so freaking hard about recreating Doom's armor?!?! He looked better, but I just don't get why he can't look like Doom. His look is simple, classic, and timeless. Seriously, if he ascends to the throne in a future movie, and his whole costume doesn't mimick the comic book... well, I am throwing my soda at the sceen!
- Back to "Surfer Doom"... retarded. Ok, ok, we knew there was going to be the whole Doom-stealing-godlike-powers plot. But I would much rather see him absorb into, or contain somewhere on/in, his armor, than actually ride a cosmic surfboard. It works for the Surfer.... not anyone else.
I'll end with some things I was relieved about, or was pleasantly suprised by...
- Reed grows a spine (and irony of sorts) and finally tells off the dickhead General.
- Actual practical application of flame powers for something other than flying, or fireballs. Of course it was Reed doing it, to weld the ferris wheel on the Thames (and what the hell is with the Brits and building all this crazy nuts on the river in London?)
- Reed being brainy, inventor guy... the fantasticar, the tachyon pulse emitters (was I watching Star Trek or FF?), the cosmic radiation sensor/tracker, etc...
- Sue using her powers to for something other than a shield or turning herself invisible. It looks like they are really comfortable with using their powers in the movie. I know they only just got them in the first movie, but it was still good to see this kind of "growth."
- Surfer's voice. I was worried when I heard Fishburne was doing the voice-over. I was afraid it was going to be deep, bad-ass, Morpheus... but it was done very well, and it seemed to really fit the Surfer. Very natural sounding/feeling. Oh, and he actually has a history and a name. I figured he would just be super-powerul alien guy. Very nice. The treatment of the Surfer was probably the best thing of the movie.
- The Fantasticar. The product placement was bad, but the car itself turned out to be pretty bad-ass! Kudos!
- Open ending. I don't think there was much doubt that there would be a third, but I think the ending cemented it. And I hope the allusions to a real Galactus are what they seemed.
Final Question....
Did you think the ending implied the surfer was alive, or that Doom or someone else was calling the board to them? It didn't seem to be going to the Surfer exactly, and he sure looked dead, though I would think he would be looking much worse if he had died... like in pieces, etc...

Then suddenly they just know that if they all touch, or he touches them all, or whatever, that he will take on all the powers? Bad writing... sorry. ... That part bothered me too. Oh, and I totally agree that Jessica looked weird at the beginning. In her first appearance, I even thought that, dare I say, she didn't look very attractive. She made up for that in later scenes though. I couldn't help thinking, when she wound up nude on the sidewalk and said "Why does this keep happening to me" - Duh, you're played by Jessica Alba. That's why it keeps happening. Overall though, I really enjoyed the movie. I think the critics have really missed the mark on both films. They aren't that deep, but they're not meant to be. Critics often have trouble understanding the concept that sometimes people just like to go to the movies to have a good time, not to grow and evolve as a person. Every movie doesn't have to be deep. I thought Stan Lee's appearance was funny, but I would have really prefered having him reprise his role as Willy Lumpkin. I think it would be neat to have him tell Reed he wants to join the team because he can wiggle his ears.

Of course he focused a little too much on Movie-Doom, but if I was that big a fan and they did such an exponentially better treatment of him than in the first... I would be pretty elated myself. It is not that I focused too much on him. It is that everyone ELSE focused too little! I do agree with her being mostly whiny and self absorbed but |I thought it was more to do with "No Reed, don't investigate these insane anomalies all over Earth, I wanna get married!" I couldn't blame her on the gazebo- youjr wedding is supposed to be the most perfect day of your life and if a giant helicoptor crashed into the middle of it etc, I think you'd be pretty upset- PLUS it proving in this case that she couldn't have a normal life. - Good points which I agree with- in fact, shouldn't Johnny have gotten Doom's electricity when he touched him as it was gained in the same way? And probably the metal skin into the bargain? Agreed but, y'know, it's Jessica Alba so it was all forgiven. Again, I think this is huge progress. Would I like them to use Doom's full armour in 3? OH YES! But if they don't, I honestly think this was close enough that it will suffice, while adding a movie "touch" or two to it. Compare it to Power Ranger Goblin for example. Plus they did a nice job of justifying it by showing the portrait of his ancestor wearing armour whcih kinda explained the breastplate. Tut tut tut, this is actually an example of comic accuracy! Who are we to override Stan and Jack? Especially about one of the best Doom stories ever! Actually they are making a seperate Silver Surfer spin-off with a script being written by, of all people, J. M. Straczynski- or current writer of "Amazing Spider-MAn", former writer of "Fantastic Four", future writer of "Thor", main writer of "Babylon 5" and also current writer of the miniseries "Silver Surfer: Requiem"! So not sure the Surfer will be in THree. Nah I think it implied he was alive. It panned OFF the screen away from Surfer and then the board shifted in his general direction, so we can assume that he is barely alive but the board will recussitate him. On another note, did anyone else feel the movie would be better if they took out Sue dying and the Surfer bringing her back?

Everyone, good news. GALACTUS EXISTS WITHIN THE CLOUD! It was hinted at a few times by things like the Surfer "making a deal with him", impossible if it was just a cloud, and the Surfer talking to him, plus the shadow over Saturn but I was one of those who thought you could see his face in the flaming centre of the cloud at the end. Over on SuperHeroHype our little band of believers were mocked but now it is our turn Galactus exists!

Really when Johhny Touched the whole team, he should have gotten stretch, thing and invisible powers and the other three should have been set on fire.
Good movie all in all though, more enjoyable than the first, if for nothing else becaues they didn't need to fill so much of the movie with exposition.

I loved it. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously and the Silver Surfer was as perfect as he can be in a movie where a thirty minute monologue would be out of place.
Doom was a solid mix between movie and comic.
I liked Galactus. It fit the movie pretty well, even if they never showed a humanoid figure. He was in there. They were just too afraid to show the helmet.
Also, the Surfer's new power rocks. Television Abs!

I loved this movie. It rocked my socks right off!
Great characterization - the characters weren't just cliches, they actually had problems and had issues they had to deal with.
Galactus was awesome.
Doom was . . . kinda lame.

I figured out what the one thing that was really bothing me was about the movie. Right at the end when the Surfer reaches out his arm to draw the board closer to him, the movie missed the perfect opportunity for a "To me my board". This is the SILVER SURFER! Put his line in the movie!

Funny the w, I thought the exact opposite about the Big G and Doom!
Engage, I noticed that too. It was literally the PERFECT moment. On one hand I can understand how it would be cheesy.... on the other hand, they including "It's Clobberin' Time", how can they not include "To me, my board"??

Saw it today, and enjoyed it. Definitely better than the first one under most aspects The best thing for me was Jonnhy. In a way, this was his and Sue's movie, whereas the first one focused more on Reed and Ben. Of course they all had their moments, but I felt that the Storm siblings had more spotlight overall. Doom was very good, especially once he gained the Surfer's power. His first part appearance was a bit too modern... no talking of himself in 3rd person or anything like that, but it's understandable considering his movie background. And he was definitely a big improvement from the 1st movie. The Surfer was nice. His change of side looked a bit too quick, but it happens in 5 minutes in the comic too, so can't complain. He looked quite realistic despite all the CGI, and it was a nice touch not having him referring to the board as such. After all, I doubt they know surf on Zenn-La. Galactus was pretty bad... Not a big disappointment though, because I had read the cloud thing over here already. In a way I understand their decision, he only appears for 5 minutes total, it would have been a waste if he appeared full body. The shadow on saturn and in the cloud confirms there is a physical being inside, so that's enough for the moment (hoping to have more soon). The actress playing Frankie Raye was the best thing in the movie ;D As for the rest, I loved the Fantasticar and enjoyed the dancing scenes. The battle in London was too short though, and the whole movie could have done with 30 minutes more The power switch thing wasn't too logical but still came out well overall. Sue appearing naked (again) is funny if you think there is Jessica Alba there, but I could never imagine that happening to the comic book Invisible Woman.
