I'm spinning off a topic from UA2's thread, which asked what superhero couple -- that is currently apart -- should be back together. My topic is: If you could write a relationship between any two Marvel superheros -- who have not been together previously -- who would it be? Give reasons. My personal favorite is Captain America and Spitfire, for several good reasons. She served with Cap throughout WWII, and all the while had an intense, silent crush on him. If you haven't read the Invaders, Cap never did anything about it both because of his own shyness, and the fact that the (original) Human Torch was hopelessly smitten with Spitfire. This little love triangle was one of the best things Roy Thomas did with the Invaders. She is his contemporary in age (Steve was born in 1917, Jacqueline in about 1925) and shares experiences and beliefs in a way that really no other character does. She's been de-aged recently, and is again roughly the age she was during the war, while of course Cap has not aged. While super-powered, she's a fairly low-level superhuman, which presents few if any problems to Cap's "street-level" solo book. I think Spifire would be his ideal match.

The only thing I could come up was: She-Hulk & Hercules. I think they're both fun-lovin', bon vivants, so it seems to me that they would have many things in common (other than their Avengers' commuincard...).

Thor and Storm. The Thundergod and the Weathergodess. I know she´s not really a godess, but way back in Africa she has been worshipped as one.

Polaris and the Back Knight, because if they got married, then she'd be Lorna Dane Whitman.

Sentry and Spider Woman No, just kidding. I think it would be interesting to see Cap, Wonder Man or Tony with Ms Marvel, since there were small hints in the past about a possible relationship like this.

I'm a big fan of Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man. The two always have good chemistry, and I'm hoping he sticks around a bit longer in Ms. Marvels' solo book.

I thought a much better idea was WM and Wanda. I don't know why the writers backtracked on that one. I don't think pairing up two ex-alcoholics like IM and Carol is a good idea from a characterization perspective. Cap and Carol would have been a good idea if acted on 20 years ago, but now I don't support it.

Agreed. They have history and make for better chemistry, I think. I do like seeing Wondy appearing in Carol's comic, but they just don't work for me as a couple -- he's too much the self-doubting semi-doofus (the way he's portrayed these days) and she's way too tough and independent for him, I think. I agree that Cap made a good match for her before, but not now. I can't think of hardly any superhero that would be a good match for her now, in fact. Hey, Moon Knight's single again...
