I think there are several factors as to why this is the "double-sized final issue!". Certainly the availability of these stories in multiple formats (color, B&W, digital) is huge; however, the really crummy art on the new stories had to be a major reason for the series' demise as well.

This is the last issue? Too bad, I was looking forward to picking this up when it reached #16, at which time it would have started to include (I assume) some new material featuring the Kooky Quartet.

Although I only purchased a couple of issues of this title, I'm sorry to see it go. I think reprints are a nice way for people to discover Marvel history, without having to necessarily having to dish out $20 or so at a pop. Actually, if the art on most of the backup stories hadn't offended my delicate sensibilities, I probably would have picked up all the issues. I wonder if they will collect the back up stories in tpb format?
