Which are your favorite male Avengers?

My list, on descending order:
1) Iron Man 2) Quasar 3) Thunderstrike/Thor replacement 4) Hawkeye 5) Captain America
Although Spider-Man, the Hulk & the Thing have been Avengers & they are in my list of favorite comic book characters, they don't make the list of favorite Avengers... Spider-Man because I think he doesn't work as an avenger, and that's the same reason why I don't include the Hulk; the Thing, because he was an avenger all too briefly...

Captain America Hawkeye Black Panther Black Knight Iron Man
In that order

Cap Hawkeye "Pre-Nazi" Iron Man Thor These 4 are easy. The 5th and last slot is tough because there are several good candidates. But I'll say Quicksilver, because every team needs an a-hole.

Spider-Man because I think he doesn't work as an avenger, and that's the same reason why I don't include the Hulk; the Thing, because he was an avenger all too briefly... 1) IM is, always was (perhaps the key word here is WAS... ) my favorite Marvel character PERIOD. 2) Quasar: Gruenwald got me to care about, to feel a great deal of affection for this character... 3) Thunderstrike/Thor replacement: same deal here: DeFalco made me care about this down-to-Earth "Thunder God", and very often laugh at his adventures as well... 4) Hawkeye: the trickster with the devil-may-care attitude & the roguish smile... Personally, I never cared much about those times he felt the need to become Goliath. In my mind, he always is & remains foremost the archer... 5) Cap: never a huge fan of him on his own book, but almost essential, IMO, on any Avengers' roster; and whenever he is, chairman or not, he leads & the rest will follow.. I think he deserves, even more than Wolverine, the tag "Best at what he does"...

Captain America Thor Hawkeye Iron-Man Spidey
The first four because they are the heart of the team in one way or another, the last because I've always thought he would have made a decent Avenger (even though he didn't do much really in the team ever since he became a member).

1. Captain America 2. Thor 3. Iron Man 4. Vision 5. Yellowjacket
I have no idea how you can say "Vision, pre-Bendis." If you mean "Vision, before he got ripped in half", I think that goes without saying, if you mean Young Avengers Vision then really they're not technically a male Avenger and I don't think anyone would assume you meant him anyway. It just seems like another trivial way of digging Bendis.
In any case, my liking for Hawkeye was never great but it grew after the old gem during the Korvac Saga, I'm sure Phantom can refresh my mind as to the number... Hawkeye vs the Collector basically...

I wouldn't consider such gross mistreatment of the character trivial any more than I'd consider "trivial" what Byrne did in WCA in the early '90's. If you want me to expound on the treatment of Hawkeye, Scott Lang, and Jack of Hearts I could go there, too . It is OK to mention in a negative light creators who have "wronged" us or our "loved ones" ...

What, being torn in half is mistreatment?

After all the work Busiek had to 'fix' our old pal Vision, to have Bendis literally disassemble (tru the hands of Shulkie) the character was painful to read. And the young Avengers one is not the real Vision either...

What, being torn in half is mistreatment? What, being put through a wall is any way to start a conversation, Doom?

In any case, my liking for Hawkeye was never great but it grew after the old gem during the Korvac Saga, I'm sure Phantom can refresh my mind as to the number... Hawkeye vs the Collector basically... Are you refering to the story where it comes down to Cap and Hawkeye facing the Collector, and Hawkeye basically says "if you can figure out which hand I am holding my arrow in behind my back, you win?" ? Yeah, that was a great example of who Hawkeye is, as well as the difference between Hawk and Cap.

What, being torn in half is mistreatment? Yeah DLW, gee whiz,... you've gotta remember that for Doom knocking someone through a wall is just saying"Pardon me, but I would like to have a quick conversation with you" so being torn in half was really Jen just trying to help the Vision make sure he had no more Ultrons polluting his system. See she was just trying to help.

Yeah, that was a great example of who Hawkeye is, as well as the difference between Hawk and Cap. No, Tana. That was Avengers annual 16. It was the Grandmaster vs. Death using the Avengers vs. dead Avengers/foes. But your main point is true, it is classic Hawkeye. I love the end of that issue when the two teams go back to their baseball game and cap tells a teammate to watch Hawk because he cheats.

I think when Cap comes back to life he could pretty much give the same advice about Iron Man, the difference being, IMO, that IM's cheating has taken a sinister turn, even if he doesn't see it...

Poor Cap...! It seems he was constantly surrounded by cheaters...! I recall an issue of the Hulk (or was it the FF... ) were he goes to FF Plaza to invite them to Rick Jones' wedding & he engages Sue in a pool game, in which Sue uses her force fields so that Cap can't score...

As for Doom, I think he’s referring to Avengers #174.

In a few years I may be calling Mr. Spock Doctor Spock!
