W -- nothing personal, I'm sure, just RSC, Steed, and me (the grumpy old men -- bobc, too!) waxing nostalgiac on our misspent youths. Unfortunately there's just a little ethnocentrism (I'm sure the Night Phantom can come up with a better term as our resident wordsmith) in what we like, and we all tend to think our formative years were the best. I wouldn’t call myself a wordsmith (possibly because I wouldn’t think of the word, heh heh), but between Roget’s and the OED I came up with nostomania. (Possibly I would come up with something better if I had a DSM…) Or if you prefer, call it artistic conservatism. I like Nostomania, myself. And thanks for the un-smite, Doug. ~W~

There's no chance I'll be purchasing this.
Why is Cap working with Thor and Mister Fantastic? Civil War won't be over by the time this comes out. Is it some sort of alterniverse story?

Back in "the day," when I was a mere lad of 13, "Onslaught" was the biggest thing of my summer '96. I wasn't too keen on "Heroes Reborn," but I'm absolutely sold on seeing Onslaught again. This project has a very nostalgic, retro feel for me. ~W~ *sigh* It's not your fault, really. It's just unfortunate that I can wax nostalgic for "The Korvac Saga," while you wax nostalgic for "Onslaught." RSC Heh. Agreed. I read the entire Korvac Saga for the first time in the mid-80's and my reaction was

From one of my local comics providers, "Monkeyboy", in his weekly Internet notice of next week's sales:
MARVEL SPOTLIGHT: HEROES REBORN - ONSLAUGHT REBORN [Hooray. Liefeld's doing the covers. Great.]

All I want to know is, how is this guy still getting work? Does he have naked pictures of everyone in the comics industry?!

I want to point out that almost everyone I've ever heard talking about Liefeld in PERSON has said he's a really, really nice guy, and that's backed up by a lot of what I've seen since.
I mean, I DESPISED his work before, but right now I certainly don't think it's the worst out there. Maybe towards the lower end of the spectrum, but not the worst, and he geuinely seems like a nice guy.

For my taste, he's the 2nd worse I've seen, right after the 2 guys (their names escape me at the moment) who used to do "Force Works"... Even if FW's writing wasn't entirely without bugs, I credit THEM with much of the responsability for the early demise of that book.

OK -- worse than Liefeld, hands down. Does everyone remember (or have you seen) Herb Trimpe, who did the pencils on the 1970's Hulk? He wasn't great by any means back then. However, in the 90's Marvel did some giant-sized FF mag with "a dynamic new style by Herb Trimpe!" Let me just say it would be as if Liefeld were the art instructor and Trimpe skipped half of the classes... Man, it was ABSOLUTELY the worst ever!! And in fairness to Mr. Liefeld, whom I have never met, he may very well be a nice man and we should certainly define the line between criticism (OK, outright hatred) of his work and him as a person. Thanks, Doom, for being my conscience !

Well, yes, point taken... We mean Liefield as an artist, not as a human being... Just like, when we discuss Bendis, we're talking about him as an Avengers writer, not as a person. I hate what he's doing, IMO, to the Avengers, but I don't hate HIM as a human being.

On the other hand, is he still “nice” if he continues to inflict his work on the world?

I kinda feel sorry for Liefield. The poor thing is the brunt of every cruel joke. At my last job we had one artist who daily scoured the web looking for sites and articles savaging poor Rob.
I could tell a very shocking story about Rob Liefield but I'm gonna be good.

True story!Yesterday when I was at my friendly neighborhood comics shop, I saw a TPB reprinting Fantastic Four: Heroes Reborn. The clerk told me Avengers: Heroes Reborn was coming soon—November, he thought.

I wouldn't look for that on any bestseller lists.
Man, Jim Lee's art in those early FF's was awesome, though!!

Like I said, I'm really looking forward to this project!
I think it's just a fun, retro project. I've got nothing against Liefeld and some of his early work isn't too bad and sometimes, he can really surprise me and pull out something good (few and far in between, though). I've come to just kinda accept his work on terms of just kinda cheesecake factor.
