Income (or lack thereof!!) does tend to get in the way of buying cool stuff!!

What's the first cool comic-related toy you had? I had the original Batman Mego, with the removable mask. The blue vinyl left marks on his face, so it looked like Bruce Wayne had bruises on his nose, cheeks, and forehead!

I don´t remember well (I think I´m really old by now ;D).
In either case it was no Marvel but DC stuff. Either a Batman outfit made by my mom (mask/cape/gaiters etc.) or a Batmobil (of course the fancy 60s style one).

Hmm, I think it was a rubber Spider-Man, or may be a Batman's mask. It was a long time ago and I don't remember very well, plus Marvel or DC toys are not too popular in Italy.

1st Avengers #215 (All the Ways of Power!--a Molecule Man story). Just looked at the cover of my issue. The advertisement bands above the titles of those issues back then were terrible.

Yes they were!!! Schwinn bicycles, maybe? DC did promotions like that on their covers at one time as well.

In my case I think it was...Fantastic Four #21, Volume 1. No, I'm not that old - it belonged to my uncle and I saw it as a little boy. The image of the Hate Monger on the cover stuck in my mind. Great villain.

I wouldn't even be able to remember... I got into reading comic books because my Dad loved them! He had subscriptions to a bunch of Marvel mags, and back issues dating back to the early to mid 70's. One lazy weekend, I read some old mags, then read the newer ones he subscribed to, and I got hooked!

My mom got me a subscription to Sgt. Rock @ 1982-83. I was more intersested in the ads for the other books, though. First superhero comic I remember, X-men Annual #7 with the Impossible Man, and a great fight in front of Avengers Mansion between Iron Man, She-Hulk, Colossus, and Rogue. If you've never read this check it out, it has an X-men softball game and lots of guest stars. It really piqued my 8 year old interest! First Avengers, #240. great cover, great lineup, I spent the next couple of years buying any back issues I could find and all the Handbooks to the Marvel Universe to figure out who these amazing characters were. I was a total Marvel Zombie, the only DC stuff that interested me back then was Teen Titans and Crisis (Thank you Mr. Perez!) and the occasional DC Comics Presents or JLA.

my first comic......boy i have no idea what my 1st one was. i've had a comic in my hand as long as i can remember! my couson was 7 years older than me, so i was looking at his before i could read. but the earliest ones i can remember are
super-boy and l.s.h. 228(death of chemical king) and defenders 42, avengers 140.
the 1st back issue was avengers annual 1. i remember this like it was last week. there was a guy selling back issues at the flea-market (before comic store were in town) and i just could not believe it. i ask my dad for avengers #1. it was $60. he almost fell on the floor! $60 for a funny book. so the guy sayes hey...annual #1 is only 50 cents. dad gets my annual 1. but i guess it was a good thing...i read this book till the cover came off.
the 1st back issue i actullay payed for as avengers 24. paid $5.00 for it. at the time that was full guide. but this is the prize of my collection. not the most expensive book i own, but to me it's priceless.

Well, since I never did post on this thread....
...My VERY first? That's tough. I suspect- suspect- it was an old issue of Spider-Man. What got me into comics though, as I've mentioned before, was the old collection of Flash comics my uncle had, which in turn gave me my appreciation for Barry Allen. The funny thing is, for a lot of people, the first series or two they read is their favourite; for me, it took half a decade for FF to become my favourite, and I read some truly *crap* FF before that. Didn't even like them that much.

Can't really remember. My first comics would've probably been Marvel UK reprints in black and white or some 2000AD's (in the early days I loved ABC Warriors, RoboHunter and Strontium Dog). I was about four or five when I really got into comics. The Marvel UK reprints I really remember were of the Claremont/Byrne X-Men from the Proteus story through to the end of Byrne's run, and of the Avengers in the 'Shooter Years' and in Roy Thomas's time. The stories 'The Plan and the Power' with Diablo and Dragon Man, and the one with the Red Guardian just after, and also 'The Yesterday Quest' are what really made me an Avengers fan from the start. I was fortunate to have friends who already had extensive collections so I could catch up relatively quickly and I started buying back issues pretty young. The first contemporary american release Avengers that I can remember reading was the one with Moondragon and Drax. The first I remember buying was 221 (I think?) where Hawkeye and She-Hulk (re-)joined the team.
The Marvel UK stuff I was buying also had the early Claremont and then Alan Moore Captain Britain stuff. Wish I'd kept them.
Mind you I have some very random comics left from my earliest youthful purchases. A Godzilla comic with him fighting giant robots (I think Red Ronin is one of them) springs to mind. This says a lot about 70's comics and about my initial tendency to buy anything that had a cool (by which I mean action packed) cover. Monsters and giant robots no doubt helped a lot...

Avengers #150 was my first. It is now coverless and basically in tatters, but still dear to my heart.
