In many ways, this was my favorite issue of anything related to Civil War, thus far. Now, how much does that say about Ellis and TBOLTS, and how much does it say about Civil War? I leave that to you to decide. But mainly I felt that this issue crystalized the whole idea of sending villains out to capture heroes into a very basic, readable story, for all its faults. Another important point: This is, for the most part, the first time TBOLTS has completely gone away from the Kurt/Fabe axis and become "just another Marvel comic with another journeyman writer doing it." That, I think, marks a significant milestone. TBOLTS has officially transitioned from a Kurt-and-Fabian (and Tom) project that wouldn't really exist without them, to a regular, ongoing Marvel comic. I wasn't sure that would ever happen--and I'm not necessarily saying it's a good thing. But, in a way, it's like picking up STRANGERS IN PARADISE and finding that Scott Lobdell is writing it... or finding an all-new issue of Vertigo's SANDMAN, with Bendis in charge. (How many of you just gritted your teeth and winced at those?)
