THUNDERBOLTS 101 may sound like a college course we all wish we could have taken, but instead it was another fabulous issue of probably the single best Marvel comic being produced today. Let's see:
* Songbird truly has become the most fascinating character, and in many ways the richest, deepest one.
* Zemo is even more interesting when his motives are not entirely clear-- or, at least, when we're not entirely sure we can buy them. (I think of Korvac after he gained all that cosmic power-- instead of just a second-rate bad guy bent on petty conquest, he actually started buying his own messianic talk, and you weren't entirely sure he was wrong.)
* The Radioactive Man is a hundred times more interesting now that he's in the 'Bolts. Never thought he could be anything like a compelling character, but there you are.
* Poor Abe has been relegated to also-ran status on his own team, as Melissa has just walked over and past and beyond him. I miss him.
* I'm looking forward to seeing the Swordsman in action in the future. He has potential, it seems. And I know nothing about the Smuggler. Though I'm sure being called "Connie" could make you into a super-villain pretty quickly.
* Nighthawk is the Falcon without a cool bird. I used to think he was sorta kinda halfway neato, but not anymore.
* Dave Ross and Cam Smith, IMO, fit this book quite well. I've pretty much liked the work of all the artists on this book, going back years now. Consistenly good, and appropriate to the look of the book.
* Fabe remains the Man.
