Can someone who read all the crossovers fill me in? I don't remember seeing it, but in some preview ads, I see he's fighting (apparently with a number of other New Avengers) against a team that appears to be the Mighty Avengers.

I haven’t read it all—I haven’t even read New Avengers #27—but my understanding is that Strange and the rest of the line-up show up pre-assembled (minus Echo, whom they are rescuing). The solicitation copy for the Civil War: The Initiative one-shot says that it debuts the (new) New Avengers, even though the one-shot comes out later—so, I’m guessing the one-shot will reveal the “origin” of the new line-up.

It's not just my occasional confusion, then, but some sort of synchronization problem. Got it.
Writers I regard as competent have shied away from including Dr. Strange in groups because he's so powerful that he's hard to write competently. (At least one of them - I forget now which because it's been years - said that in an interview.)
I shudder inside at the thought of what Bendis will do with him.

Maybe after the War was over he has joined them to help them be able to rejoin other heroes, and to protect them from retribution befor they get a chance to return?
Or Maybe he's a ninja too.
